Great Article about Women's Cross Country

Submitted by itauditbill on

As a runner I always am reading the different on-line running magazine. I just saw this article at Runners World:

http://www.runnersworld.com/college-training/michigan-michigan-state-duel-heads-to-the-races

Since 2001, Michigan and MSU have placed one-two at the Big Ten cross country championship eight times, with each team taking four wins. And it’s likely to happen again in 2014. This year, the rivalry will play out nationally: The neighboring schools—only 55 minutes of farmland-bordered highways separate Ann Arbor from East Lansing—could finish one-two at the NCAA championships.

Fun article about a great rivalry!

Big10 Championships are in Iowa City: Nov 2. NCAA's are in Terra Haute, IN on November 22.

These student athletes are fantastic, and we'd like records like McGuire's for every Michigan team, eh? In his 23 years as head coach, they've won the Big Ten 9 times and finished second 9 times, won the NCAA Regional 9 times, and finished in the top 10 at NCAAs 11 times. Plus a dozen academic all-americans, and a bigger pile of academic all-Big Ten honorees.

Here's another impressive WXC article - an interview with alumna, all-american (6 times in track, though, not XC) and academic all-american Lindsay Gallo, now an assistant professor at the Ross School of Business at U-M: http://bit.ly/1qrBmI4

Fun little article, and great to hear about the harriers doing so well.  It may shock some fans of UM that a bunch of really great athletes compete for the school, and most of them don't get nearly the amount of recognition they deserve.
