Now suppose Shea can play, and at least one (probably 2) of our RS-F O-Line turn out to be serviceable or better. Defense is better than last year.

Someone notify everyone that the sky didn't actually fall yesterday.

Hopefully either Stuebner or Honigford could win a tackle job. Filiaga has been mentioned as both a guard and tackle. Hudson was getting rave reviews from the staff late in the year. Just for the sake of argument, say Newsome isn’t back to his old self. There are still multiple combinations at OL that could work. Between Hudson, Ulizio, Honigford, Stuebner, and Filiaga. There are also Guys with positional flexibility like Bredeson (guard/tackle) and Ruiz (Guard/Center) that can be shifted around to find the best 5. The results weren’t great, but we do return multiple guys at tackle that had multiple starts. You’d hope with an offseason that they’d improve, Ruiz, Bredeson and Onwenu should all get better. If Newsome does get back and he regains his old form, Michigan is really just a competent RT away from having 3-4 All-B1G OL and a very solid line. A look at the 2017 class of offensive linemen shows exactly why the staff felt okay taking a few projects on the OL in this class.

I think we saw Ulizio this past year. That didn't work out very well. I don't think he's going to be ready quite yet.

I also think the coaching situation has to be simplified on the offensive side.Or we're going to see the same cluster fuck we saw last year. I have no optimism for an offense with all these clowns Harbaugh has hired or is hiring. Cam Cameron? Srsly? I'd rather have the shark humper by a huge margin.

Which would be the part where I said “the results weren’t great.” Your comment is under the impression that players can’t get better. That they don’t improve year to year. As I said, the results weren’t great with Ulizio. But he’s a guy with starting experience and another year of coaching. It’s incredibly ignorant and naive to think he won’t be better than he was last season. Whether that puts him in the starting tackle job or not, remains to be seen. Whether or not that makes him a good tackle, remains to be seen. But the fact is, he’s at the very least an option, and likely one of the top options due to his experience.

Exactly what we all need to hear as fans! Newsome has a very bright future... Congressman? Professor? Coach? I hope he does something great... after he plays in the NFL! May he be healthy and reach his dreams!

Could get a spate of good news here with Shea' eligibility, Calvin Anderson transfer decision, and Grant's medical clearance. 3/3 there and the sky's the limit for next year's team.

His clearance would at the very least add another body to the OT position. He'll be weaker than he was before the injury. He'll be rusty in his technique. But, at the very least, he would add the group of OT candidates and increase the likelihood that we can get at least average play at the position next year.

Let me redeem myself from my earlier probability calculation error.

Odds for unfavorable outcomes:

Shea @ 40%

Anderson @ 60% (I'm a little more pessimistic on that one)

Newsome @ 50% (I'm a little more optimistic on that one)

0-for-3 odds = 0.4 x 0.6 x 0.5 = 12%

If we bump Newsome down to a 40% chance of not coming back and we're down to 9.6%.

Newsome has been hitting the weights for the better part of a year.

He began running last summer, about eight months out from his last surgery, and has been doing plyometrics and weights.

Rusty on technique? depends who you ask:

“Doing O-Line specific stuff now,” Newsome said. “That’s what we’re getting back into, doing the drills we would go through normally in practice making sure I’m functional through those. Now it’s really more football-related. We kind of got through the normal every-day person stuff, running and jogging, so now it’s more position-specific, seeing any deficiencies I may have and figuring out ways to address them.”

if we are talking about a OL that consists of..

LT: Newsome

LG: Bredeson

C: Ruiz

RG: Onwenu

RT: Anderson

could this be Harbaugh's best OL? That is elite imo..
