Glenville vs. St. Edwards: Kalis & Others
I was at the big St.Ed's - Glenville game at Cleveland Browns Stadium today to chack out Kyle Kalis and others. Unfortunately, Kalis did not play and I spotted him wearing street clothes on the sideline.I don't know why he wasn't playing (the knee injury he had in a preseason scrimmage maybe?), but it didn't look serious as he was bouncing around during halftime warmups.
The game ended in overtime with St. Ed's winning 17-14 after recovering a fumble. It was a sloppy game with numerous delay of game and substitution type penalties. The defenses had the day and both offenses struggled through long stretches. Both teams are coming off great seasons and both lost a ton of players. I believe Glenville lost 40 seniors.
Notable players:
- St. Ed's tackle Tyler Orlosky (4* WVU) is a huge kid and had a pretty good game.
- St. Ed's TE Sam Grant (BC) is one tall dude at 6'7 and pretty lean. He reminded me of Kyle Rudolph, at least physically. He almost made a great catch early on, but it was a little out of reach. He displayed pretty solid body control though.
- Glenville's S/WR Devon Bogard (OSU) had a pretty good game as well and played both ways.
Other stuff:
- Jim Tressel was lurking around the sidelines and seemed happy enough.
- Tedd Ginn Sr. was wearing a white sweater vest tonight.

40 seniors! My high school dressed like 55 players! oh and you should have gone up to Tressel and asked him how his job's going and how he's preparing for the upcoming season

Ask him to get right on it and wish him a happy Easter.

- Tedd Ginn Sr. was wearing a white sweater vest tonight. And of course he was. Sickening.

I believe that many high school football coaches in Ohio are wearing a sweater vest as a way to show support for Tressel.

ain't talking.

Why wouldn't he support Tressel?

See any legacy jerseys down there?

Is Jim Tressel's stalking of the sidelines of a known feeder school a possible violation? Death Penalty maybe or am I reaching?

A violation of what? He no longer represents any school or institution. I think he could go join the Glenville coaching staff if he really wanted to.

At first I thought the violation comment was completely crazy or a bad joke or something.
But once the penalties come down, is it possible that Tressel would be banned from talking with HS recruits?
I'm sure for some misguided reason the guy still loves OSU. And the thought of him dropping in on HS practices in Ohio and telling them how great of a school it is makes me a little uneasy.
It would almost like he was given a ton of recruiting freedom that coaches don't have because he got fired.
Again, I know it sounds crazy. But at dedicated as some buckeye fans are, I could definitely see some kids leaning more toward OSU with him in their ears.
Ugh, sorry guys...how many days until the season again?

Basically, I think the answer to your question would lie in whether or not, after 'resigning' from the university, Tressel is considered a booster/treated like a booster in terms of contact with potential recruits. This could likely be solved by re-reading the message (that I'm too lazy to look for) from UM to students/alumni (that was sent out via email and also posted here) defining what a booster is and what someone is/is not allowed to do.

OSU allowed him to change it to a retirement. This allows Cheater to maintain health coverage as a retired state employee. Once the show cause penalty comes down on Tressel you won't be seeing him at anymore events like this.

Really, I'm not that nieve bro, just a bad attempt at humor. I shall hang my head now and go off to meet the "True Death".

Clearly you are "nieve" enough to think (forced) "True Blood" references are acceptible here.

I take it that the initial version supplied on the MGoBoard, that Kalis had just tweaked his knee in that scrimmage of a week and a half ago, has given way to the subsequent story, that indeed it was some form of kneecap dislocation. Good thing there was no surgery.
