On this thanksgiving I am thankful for the University of Michigan- dysfunctional offense, bipolar fans and all.

Share a story, give thanks, be happy- whatever. Enjoy the holiday everyone.

Aside from all of the usual stuff I'm genuinely thankful for the best sport on planet earth, football. Being able to coach a sport I grew up playing and watching is incredibly humbling and satisfying.

I'm thankful for years playing football in the back yard, wearing my Anthony Carter jersey, while my dad would be raking leaves - both of us listening to Ufer on the radio.

for my stepdaughter, who wore the Michigan shirt I gave her to school earlier today, just  to needle her Buckeye teacher.  I am thankful for The Game and the best rivalry in sports.

I think the good guys in blue lose, but give us an effort and hustle we can appreciate.

Last years O-line was so weak I expected the young guys to be better this season.  Now I see why the Coach Hoke played the seniors last year.  Hopefully, next year will be the return of a good O-line and I hope to see an improved Devin & Derrick in the backfield.

from the guy who started it all:

Thanksgiving Proclamation
President George Washington
City of New York, October 3, 1789

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor, and Whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me "to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness."

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the People, by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord. To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

not sure why he didn't say 'go blue' in that address, but there you have it.   you all have a great thanksgiving and remember those who went before us so that we could even have this day.   and go blue, beat ohio!

Even though I did this in a diary, I have no hesitation in reiterating that I am definitely thankful for this place, these people and everything and everyone who is associated with Michgian and Michigan athletics.

Have a most excellent Thanksgiving, MGoBloggers.

My family, my wife, 2 kids, my parents, my sister, everybody. My dad recently had a heart attack and will be having triple bypass at st joe's on December 20th, need prayers. That event really put Michigan football, (which I'm addicted to) in some perspective. I'm also thankful for youtube, because I can watch Desmond and Charles return punts against Ohio state. I can watch EVERY memorable Michigan moment. I love this team and am thankful I can attend The Game this Saturday to cheer my ass off for this University! Go Blue! These kids are going to play for MICHIGAN Saturday and shut those buckeyes up, I know it!

Every Thanksgiving morning I play a football game. This year it was NCAA '14. Just beat #4 Texas A&M in overtime with #14 Michigan to start the season, coming back from 14 down in the 4th quarter with about 2 minutes to go.

That the biggest gripe in my life right now is about our damn offense.

Happy Thanksgiving to the blog and everyone. We will win tomorrow and it will start a turning point.

Michigan Related Thanks

I am thankful every day that I had the opportunity to attend our University of Michigan for four glorious years.

I am thankful that as a senior we got to spend 4 days in NOLA and watch a Sugar Bowl victory.

I am thankful for John Beilein and Bacon. The second of whom made me understand the true importance of Artes, Scientia, Veritas. Veritas meaning truth and the importance of always striving to hold your own university to that standard.

On that last point, I am thankful that I went to a University that I believe would never celebrate and carry a cheater off the field like what happened down south for last year's game.

I am happy that our legendary coach from the Ten Year War went out gracefully instead of punching a student-athlete from another school.

I am thankful for Ann Arbor and the Big House.

And finally, Rick's American Cafe. I am always thankful for Rick's.

that I've gotten to visit the Big House several times, with my own father, even though we live outside Washington, DC.

I am thankful for the memories M football has given me and thankful for the great year in UM basketball - including a Final Four and runner-up appearance!  I honestly didn't think I would see that last year.  What a great memory.

My family, my health, and my job (as well all know people who are lacking in at least one of those three).

W/R/T Michigan...I am thankful for (7) Spike going into a 17 point fever dream in the national championship game (loss be damned, watching Blue play for it all, even on TV, was awesome), (6) Michigan over BC in hockey (a sign our hockey program was just on a one year blip, (5) Under the Lights II (my first night game), (4) Trey Burke and the steal over State, (3) Michigan over Florida in a romp to go to the Final Four (one of the greatest all-around team performances I have ever seen), (2) Michigan over Syracuse in the Final Four (ugly, yet beautiful, to see UM back in the spotlight - I was a student during the Josh Asselin era, need I say more), and (1) Trey Burke's three (it was about time one of those went down for us).

Happy Thanksgiving all!

that our major First-World problem appears to be a college football team that doesn't win as many games as we think we're entitled to.
