Getting to Know Moritz Wagner

Submitted by Everyone Murders on

John Niyo has a nice fluff piece about Moritz Wagner's integration into the team and U.S. culture in this morning's news.  Not much more than fluff to the article, but it's nice to read about Michigan basketball, get to know more about a player, and to have no mention of recruiting shenanigans (shenanigans? - yeah, I said it!) in an article on MBB.

Interesting that he's up to 228 already (thanks, Chipotle - wait until he discovers BTB!).  Glad to see this young man aboard the team, and Beilein Uber Alles.

The prisoners weren't pulling capers like in Hogan's Heroes.

Throughout the movie, Holden was suspected by the other prisoners to be an informer (e.g. getting prisoners attempting escapes killed as Germans with machine guns were waiting for them.)  In the end, it becomes clear that it wasn't Holden.  (I won't spoil it.)

There was an affable Sergeant Schultz, however.

Beilein's comment about his German fluency being limited to "German beer" was wonderful.

Mo seems like a good kid, with a great personality.  Like that the team seems to have a lot of great "characters".  Makes rooting for them very easy and very fun.

I'm so glad that we have two excellent coaches for the football and basketball teams. They're both elite teachers for their respective teams and it's just so great.

Since I have the pleasure of sharing a last name with "Mo Weezy"  my husband just sent me the link to this thread and informed me that if we have another son we need to name him Moritz. Seems like a good idea, considering my husbands family isn't that far removed from their emmigration from Germany.

Edited to add that the most recent text from my husband sealed the deal (even though we're not expecting):  Moritz Fielding Wagner.  Can't go wrong there!

The band absolutely must pick up an arrangement of "Ride of the Valkyries" for when Wagner makes a big play. Would be cool to hear that at football games too, but one thing at a time...

It literally is "basketball on grass" in Deustchland.
