Georgia Cornerback in the Portal
Marcus Washington was a highly rated recruit in the 2022 class. He is from GA and his father played for the Dawgs, but he is looking for a better opportunity to play. Partridge always recruited well in GA so I hope we are at least kicking the tires. Here's some info from the Gerogia blog. He has good size and speed: ran a 10.76 100 as a sophmore in HS.

but, but, but...the weather is so coooold.
Knowing nada about this young man, I would wager that the most likely scenario is his main selection criteria will be which school’s NIL bag is the swaggiest.

But was your father one of the toughest competitors that Irv Blitzer ever saw?

NO, but Talulah is my mother's name
Young top 150 CB, sign me up.

247 ranked him #147 for the class of '22, which means Georgia's got only 146 guys ahead of him.

Maybe these kids should rethink the idea of re-classifying a year early? Seems like he would have had a better chance to compete if he was a year older and more developed.

...reminds me of a girl I dated in high school.

curious of the up votes? you all know that girl?

Apparently I wasn't the only one waiting for her to get more developed...

Wishing Marcus Washington well.
From a talent perspective, according to 247 Sports Team Composite - Georgia and Bama are the two most talented teams in the nation. So, there's a lot of talent on those rosters - and, it's hard to say how deep Georgia is in the secondary and at corner, specifically. It did seem like Bama's secondary was "not as strong" as it had been in years past.
Georgia is deep in talent - but, I'm also wondering the nature of the culture in the locker room.

Thanks for the excellent reminder that talent is only one of the criteria for "fit" within a team. UM culture isn't for everyone, but that can be said of every team. I hope the young man finds an excellent fit to meet his needs and objectives.

"I hope the young man finds an excellent fit to meet his needs and objectives..."
Yet never faces Michigan in this endeavor.

I'd assume the culture is very solid given they are coming of back to back national titles.
Much easier to keep the majority of young talent happy when the team is winning and putting players in the league. Bama/Saban had stocked rosters for years and it looks like UGA has become the new Bama.
Of course NIL and tranfer portal changes things, but success still breeds success.

I'm sure the culture at UGa is fine but Urban Meyer won two titles at Florida with a locker room ripe with malcontents and toxicity. I don't think that's the case with Smart, though they have had a fair number of arrests and issues this offseason, but sometimes you just have a lot of talent and that's enough even if people aren't happy and it's not a great place overall.

I wonder about the impact of that horrific car accident on Georgia’s culture. I can’t imagine anything like that happening to my teammates and how the storm of legal issues, NCAA issues (maybe not?) and the response from the AD would mesh with players grieving and maybe questioning some of their own or others decisions.

I’ll go with FSU or Arkansas. They were both on his list out of high school. FSU would be the closer of the two, but Arkansas is in the SEC and got one of his former five star teammates out of the portal in Jaheim Singletary. There have been a lot of corners go into the portal lately so hopefully we can pluck one of them.
For example, we could pluck Storm Duck from the portal.

Storm Duck please--that is all.
For the name alone.

McBurrows is it, I'm telling you guys. Hill and Walker will be fine by week 7. Minter even said they can move Mikey outside if needed. We are not taking a CB in the portal, sorry to get your hopes up...
April 24th, 2023 at 12:03 PM ^
Is this just your opinion or based on intel?
April 24th, 2023 at 12:57 PM ^
Minter said that on the Jansen podcast, he sounded like he was cool with Mikey moving outside if needed and the tone of his voice implied that is a tentative plan if needed. The McBurrows info is based on the Minter interview, Clink's comments, and how he played in the spring game. Honestly if McBurrows had been healthy at all yet I bet he would have seen the field last year. The kid has been hurt since he has been on campus. Hill and Walker are just a hunch, personally I'd like to see Walker back at WR as a tall, leaping, deep threat. I think Clemmons and Walker could be a lethal 1-2 punch at WR.
Hope McBurrows is a star, but if you want to win championships you need depth. McBurrows has been hurt a lot and there is literally no way to know if Hill and Walker will be fine by week 7 or by 2024. Moving Mikey outside may be fine, but it makes the Nickel spot worse. Plus we like to play 3 outside CBs. If Minter has a portal player he thinks would be the third best outside CB week 1 available and doesn't take him, it's a big mistake.

The uncommitted corners currently in the portal...
https://247sports.com/Season/2023-Football/TransferPortalPositionRanking/?positionkey=24&status=uncommitted
Lorenzo Styles might be a good option. Not alot of experience but tons of talent.
I thought he was a WR for Notre Dame?
Edit: See he is moving to CB. We were one of his top schools AND have success with this type of move.
Edit Edit: early reporting saying going to OSU to play with his brother is likely.
All these schools recruiting SEC cornerbacks who weren't playing in the SEC. It never works out for them.
But maybe it could work for us.
Of all the guys in the portal, Michigan probably was the closest to Jalil Tucker (Oregon), but that was a Courtney Morgan relationship.
