Gattis on the sideline today.

Submitted by DutchWolverine on September 28th, 2019 at 11:27 AM

Gattis said on the radio this morning that he’s calling plays from the sideline today. Think this will change anything?  Hoping it will help Shea to have Gattis close by.  Any insight from MGoCoaches out there?

Aren’t all coaches on the field during practice?  IIRC Gattis said at the start of the season that he was going to the booth simply so he could have the birds eye view of the D.  At this point, they should try anything.  No reason to suspect our problems are as simple as him being on the field though.

Weird that this is such a big issue.

The few years I was a coordinator, I preferred being up high.

I think it's just a personal preference, but maybe with these specific players there's an advantage.

Kudos for changing though when seeing the status quo isn't/wasn't working as well.

I think being up gives you a better sense of what’s happening but being on the field let’s you talk to your guys. I think you can be in box if you have really good position coaches who can motivate. My guess is this won’t make any difference overall.

This makes sense— harder to play with tempo when you’re up in the booth since you have to relay the call to a guy to signal it in. I think it also helps with the check with me, and can help with some adjustments. Who knows about all the other components, but being on the field “should” help us make some quicker adjustments.

I almost started a thread but it's not thread worthy. I'm staying home today, first home game I haven't attended since 2013. I'm not going out of my way to protest, I just don't care enough to go. Spend 5 hours of my Saturday, wherein I'd have to arrange childcare, then sit in the rain to watch the most disappointing team in my lifetime go up against an opponent that has no business being in the Big Ten, but belongs in the MAC (and would likely struggle to win that conference). None of that is worth it. Un-freaking-believable that this is what college football has become for us.

Wilson, Charbonnet, and Shea are ready. McKeon, Ross, and DMac are a no-go. DPJ and Dwumfour game-time decisions. Expect to see Milton no matter what for meaningful experience.

It's a step in that Harbaugh is seeing the problem and not simply doing it "the way we always did it." So it's fair to say that they're actually aware of the issues and trying to correct them.
