Reactionary, so they are admitting what they were doing wasn't correct for this offense / shea. Better late than never.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:41 AM ^
What's the point in continuing to do something if it hasn't worked?
September 28th, 2019 at 11:57 AM ^
I think the question is if Gattis's location was the thing that needed to change.

Oh, how dare they not be perfect and have audacity to try to improve, amirite?

Stick to recycling your gifs
September 28th, 2019 at 1:39 PM ^
Sure....
September 28th, 2019 at 11:29 AM ^
can't be any worse... he can directly coach players on the sidelines, so probably good?
September 28th, 2019 at 11:30 AM ^
He's on the field during practice and was during the spring game. Not sure what made him think to not be on the field during the game.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:57 AM ^
Aren’t all coaches on the field during practice? IIRC Gattis said at the start of the season that he was going to the booth simply so he could have the birds eye view of the D. At this point, they should try anything. No reason to suspect our problems are as simple as him being on the field though.
September 28th, 2019 at 2:30 PM ^
Strap him in a jetpack on the sideline.
September 28th, 2019 at 12:06 PM ^
OCs are normally in the press box during games.
September 28th, 2019 at 5:44 PM ^
Traditionally yes, but its coming more common for playcallers to call from the sidelines. Lincoln Riley calls from the sidelines
September 28th, 2019 at 12:14 PM ^
The sideline is a rather crappy view of what is going on with the play?
September 28th, 2019 at 11:32 AM ^
Weird that this is such a big issue.
The few years I was a coordinator, I preferred being up high.
I think it's just a personal preference, but maybe with these specific players there's an advantage.
Kudos for changing though when seeing the status quo isn't/wasn't working as well.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:37 AM ^
I also preferred the booth when I called plays.
Sometimes if things aren’t clicking you need to be on the field to address those issues yourself instead of relaying messages.
Hopefully they put the damn ball in the endzone and not on the ground.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:41 AM ^
They can put the ball on the ground, but only if they're in the endzone. See, best of both worlds!
September 28th, 2019 at 11:34 AM ^
I think being up gives you a better sense of what’s happening but being on the field let’s you talk to your guys. I think you can be in box if you have really good position coaches who can motivate. My guess is this won’t make any difference overall.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:53 AM ^
Excellent point. Also had damn good kids who could put on a headset and listen and follow instruction.
September 28th, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
He is immediately bringing more energy to the sideline.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:35 AM ^
Red flag.
September 28th, 2019 at 12:05 PM ^
Indeed.
September 28th, 2019 at 1:30 PM ^
Oh, Clarence, I see your true colors...
September 28th, 2019 at 11:35 AM ^
The last two seasons seems to be reactionary... from the new Offense to Coach being so docile to Gattis being on the sideline.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:35 AM ^
This makes sense— harder to play with tempo when you’re up in the booth since you have to relay the call to a guy to signal it in. I think it also helps with the check with me, and can help with some adjustments. Who knows about all the other components, but being on the field “should” help us make some quicker adjustments.
September 28th, 2019 at 3:48 PM ^
Where were you when I was getting neg-banged for suggestimg this early in the week?
September 28th, 2019 at 11:36 AM ^
Now Gattis will get to watch the shit show up close instead of far away.
September 28th, 2019 at 12:01 PM ^
This genuinely made me laugh, thanks.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:36 AM ^
It’s a trade off, right? Up top you can see the field better. On the sideline you can coach players directly. Maybe that’s what’s needed in this situation.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:37 AM ^
Wish there were microphones on him and Harbaugh. I'd love to hear their interaction.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:48 AM ^
I’d like to hear their reaction when Shea doesn’t see another 5 wide open guys and runs to his right and throws it to a guy with 3 defenders.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:44 AM ^
I almost started a thread but it's not thread worthy. I'm staying home today, first home game I haven't attended since 2013. I'm not going out of my way to protest, I just don't care enough to go. Spend 5 hours of my Saturday, wherein I'd have to arrange childcare, then sit in the rain to watch the most disappointing team in my lifetime go up against an opponent that has no business being in the Big Ten, but belongs in the MAC (and would likely struggle to win that conference). None of that is worth it. Un-freaking-believable that this is what college football has become for us.
September 28th, 2019 at 12:09 PM ^
Hey guy. Relax.
September 28th, 2019 at 12:11 PM ^
+1 Insightful
September 28th, 2019 at 12:13 PM ^
I can't personally relate as I don't live in Ann Arbor and don't have kids, but man... I get it. If it's not sparking joy, don't kill yourself over it. I hope the team somehow finds it way but whether they do or don't, it's more important that you have a fun weekend with your family.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:46 AM ^
Wilson, Charbonnet, and Shea are ready. McKeon, Ross, and DMac are a no-go. DPJ and Dwumfour game-time decisions. Expect to see Milton no matter what for meaningful experience.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:47 AM ^
Someone posted on FB that Milton was warming up with the 1s. Was this an error?
September 28th, 2019 at 11:48 AM ^
Lots of talk that he had a majority of the reps last week in practice.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:50 AM ^
Looking to the future, I like it.
September 28th, 2019 at 11:56 AM ^
He needs to be on the sideline to tell the QBs to keep the ball on read options?
September 28th, 2019 at 11:57 AM ^
Watch Rutgers score on the opening drive. BPONE
September 28th, 2019 at 11:57 AM ^
It's a step in that Harbaugh is seeing the problem and not simply doing it "the way we always did it." So it's fair to say that they're actually aware of the issues and trying to correct them.
September 28th, 2019 at 12:00 PM ^
Well, if nothing else, I will be interested to see if this makes a difference in the energy level overall on offense.
September 28th, 2019 at 12:01 PM ^
I like this... I like it a lot.
September 28th, 2019 at 12:02 PM ^
They're freaking out.
September 28th, 2019 at 12:07 PM ^
SEE!!! That call would have fucked our game up, right from the top again. These refs seriously need to fucking chill with this trend/tradition.
September 28th, 2019 at 12:08 PM ^
What parallel universe did I cross into ? UM throws downfield. Runs with purpose. Scores a TD on first drive?
September 28th, 2019 at 12:08 PM ^
Quick passes to the receivers, I like it.
September 28th, 2019 at 12:08 PM ^
Heck yes ! Michigan up 7-0. This is where Josh needs to be he is not a booth guy.
