Question is, now that he and Harbaugh finally look in sync on the offense, how do we feel about retaining him for a few years? I can’t remember if his contract is up or not but he could become a commodity this offseason with all of this turnover.

I think the question is...how does HE feel?

Of course we feel great, but I don't know his ego or how he truly feels about the fact that Harbaugh made him change his style to Harbaugh's style and got Sherrone Moore involved as co-OC.

If he's truly comfortable, let's rock...this could be the start of something GREAT! If it's been too much, I'd understand and trust that Harbaugh has a backup plan in place (likely Matt Weiss).

Hope not, but if he did, could Matt Weiss step up into that role along with Moore helping out as well? Maybe Hart? I think the game plan is pretty much there now, it’s about balancing out the play calling. That 3rd and 2 pass play where we got a pi on Burke was a gutsy call for us. If that ball isn’t underthrown there isn’t a pi call there and then we would’ve been facing 4th and 2.

I’m interested in who isn’t being mentioned from the staff for this gig if Gattis were to leave… JayBaugh. Though I might not be surprised if Jim didn’t want to set him up as a target if things went south next year for whatever reason.

But it’s possible he may have to move on to make that next step up.

The only two teams in the country with more scoring drives than Michigan this year are Pittsburgh and Western Kentucky

We scored 6 TDs, including 5 in a row, against OSU

All of us who wanted him fired are not fit to run a CFB program

I wanted him fired almost immediately, and I wasn't thrilled with the hire in the first place, but two things have turned my opinion around.

It seems like Harbaugh has a much bigger hand in the offense than he did in previous years.  When Gattis first got here we couldn't run the ball, like at all, for a while there.  Speed in space sounds cool until Army is almost beating you.  Now that they're on the same page the offense looks fantastic.  Like a modernized version of what Harbaugh has always won with.

Second. it seems clear to me now that our biggest problems were on defense.  Turns out you don't have to beat OSU by scoring 63 points, you can actually hold them under 30.

He should be considered a front-runner for this award.  That game plan for OSU was a significant masterpiece.  Aside from being downright outplayed to the point of all but giving up, the first few drives had OSU's collective head spinning around.  They had no idea where the ball was going!  Later in the game, he was just throwing punches to their face, and they knew it.  Still couldn't stop it.

That was Ali's rope-a-dope on a football field.  It was dad showing you a twirling right hand saying 'here it comes', and then slapping you with his left.

But the effort was more than just the OSU game.  They developed this offense in game situations, play by play.  Evolved it to swap out blocking schemes for new ones when necessary.  Set up counters after a full season of prep.

He earned this award - even if he had some big help from Harbaugh's run game.

Those in the "Fire Gattis" crowd also may have forgotten this was his first solo offensive coordinator job.  His closest thing to this, prior, was his stint at Alabama serving as co-coordinator with Locksley.  Which, we almost lost the opportunity for Gattis because he planned on heading to Maryland.  Harbaugh swept in at the 11th hour and gave him this solo opportunity.

So, while he may have not been the prodigy people we're hoping for off the bat, you can see how he's really progressed over the course of this season.  I'm glad Harbaugh gave him that chance and it's paying off dividends.  Something cool about seeing a guy who was largely unproven, rise up against adversity, the same adversity that had Harbaugh's back against the wall, and watch them transcend to this moment where Michigan broke an OSU team that had the #1 offense in the country.

While this board has moments where we disagree on coaches, playcalling, and what players should be playing in times of strife,  I think we can all appreciate the moments, together as fans, where we see it all pay off and put aside our petty squabbles.

We are fans for moments like these and I hope we can all remember that at the end of the day, and enjoy the spectacular season we're having.

Josh Gattis' game plan for the game was masterful. He's done a wonderful job all season and deserves all the accolades and attention he's getting. We need to show our appreciation and let him know we want him to stay$$$
