Maurkice Pouncey allegedly received $100,000 (yes that is right, $100k!!) prior to the Gators bowl game from an agent.

It is really amazing how many different violation stories have come up in the last week or so. Was the NCAA in hibernation until July or something?

Meyer has a lot of slack due to his W-L record.  Fans tend to overlook an awful lot when you are in the running for a national championship. With a losing record, Meyer would be seen as the devil incarnate.

For those with short memories, RichRod's stock had gone stratospheric after the 4-0 start last year, only to sink as the year progressed.

...previously stated:

This investigation and the (other) USC investigation are a clear warning to all schools about the danger agents pose to their programs.  Woe to the program that turns its head to the players that are looking to cash in on the promise of the next level before the current level is complete.

True, but I did enjoy the mocking chomp followed by an X motion that either Arrington or Manningham threw up after a TD in the Capital One Bowl.

with your index finger and thumb instead of your arms, like an English lady drinking tea--shuts them up quick.  Pretend to peer through the space between them and it gives a bonus suggestion about how big their weenies are. I've been doing it to my wife's family--all insufferably proud UF grads--for years; they have no choice but tolerate me. Made the mistake of doing it to some drunken Gator fans here in Tallahassee once, though, and. . . well, I was glad I was in Tallahassee.

Unfortunately, our six-year-old loves to do it. House divided, all that stuff. Thank God--or LLoyd-- for that Capital One Bowl. Gator fans all pretty much feel they own the state of Ohio (though they wouldn't want to live there). Michigan--no.

imply greed. You may be right. Perhaps there's a legit hardship reason. But if he knew he was declaring for the draft early, and knew a chunk of change would be at his disposal in a few weeks time, I would think most situations could be mitigated.

I'm not a Florida fan, but I'll feel somewhat bad for his former teammates and the program, however, if this is just a situation of a kid making a dumb choice and they pay the price.

with the principle of what you're saying.  Who knows what reasons he had.  Potentially extenuating, or maybe just greed.  It's clear that the agents aren't looking out for the players, but just trying to be the first to get an "in" ethics be damned.

Just one note - there was nothing illegal that occurred (as you suggest), most likely, just in violation of NCAA regulations.

I think this happens a lot more often than fans think.  Officially, agents aren't allowed to contact players until after their final season is over, but I've heard that that rule is laughed at.  Agents who wait that long won't find any clients left.  (Incidentally, Woodson was accused of accepting gifts from an agent a month before the '98 Rose Bowl, but fortunately we were never investigated.)

Urban didn't know.  The idea that pathological control freaks like Urban Meyer don't know is complete nonsense.  Nothing happens within 100 miles of Gainesville that Urban does not know.

If this is proven, I would imagine that Florida declare Pouncey ineligible, vacate the bowl victory over Cincinnati, which was a disappointment to them anyway, and offer a few schollies as "extra" punishment.   The self-reporting will definitely help their cause.

If you want to see Florida go down, hope for the investigation to cause some collateral damage.

Maybe they find more stuff while investigating, because this seems like  what the poster above said where it may just vacate the win as the biggest punishment. Then, maybe RR's efforts to build good pipelines in FL will pay off.

Come on up boys! Don't worry about whats happening with the Gators, just come up to Michigan. It's beautiful in the fall! And we have lots of trees!

This happens all the time! This is nothing new going on right now. I know for a fact that an agent has/is in contact with a couple guys from a school in the Big Ten. One of those guys will be a redshirt sophomore and the other will be a redshirt junior. This is nothing new and will continue to happen for a while.
