Gator Bowl Conspiracy
I was looking at the Arizona Wildcats football page to see how they spin their new staff's tenure at Michigan. So far RR has hired MaGee, Gibson, Dews, and Smith who were all at WVU and UM. They list RR's Wolverine record as 15-22, which is correct. However, they make no mention of the 2011 Gator Bowl. For the assistants they actually list the bowl history of each and each list omits the 2011 Gator Bowl. John Bacon also claimed the coaching staff received no rings for the Gator Bowl, contrary to custom.
Did the 2011 Gator Bowl really happen? Did Dave Brandon create an alternate reality future so that he could avoid the higher buyout AND avoid buying jewelry?
What is going on here?

They probably don't want to admit to that kind of a beatdown on their resumes unless forced to.

In terms of a coaches "official" record, do bowl games even count? Or are they tallied separately for the record books and just offered or not offered voluntarily?

How many IQ points did you lose reading this? Feels like a four-pointer to me.

Can't say I blame anybody for wanting to forget that debocle. It's also possible that at some level coaches and players rationalize the loss to themselves as them already having gave up on the coaching staff. In that case, they just threw in the towl and called it a day.

Why is this always brought up! Everyone on that staff would have thrown those rings in the garbage. Win/Lose, that ring will always have meaning to the players.
December 9th, 2011 at 3:59 PM ^
I really don't want to argue this, but I have no idea why people think that. As bad as the loss was, I'm sure the RR and his staff would have kept the Gator Bowl ring next to their Sugar Bowl rings wherever they keep them.
It wasn't as bad as the 2011 Gator Bowl, but do you think Carr still has his 2007 Rose Bowl ring? We got smoked by fourteen while we were the number three team in the nation, and I'm sure if LC ever looks at it he has a lot of fond memories of 2006.

Is losing by two scores "smoked?"
I remember it as USC got a two score lead, and we were never able to catch back up the rest of the game.
December 9th, 2011 at 4:17 PM ^
Yea maybe not the best word, but I don't remember it feeling close. I should have used the 2002 Citrus Bowl as the example, since it's the only Carr bowl that was anything like the Gator, IMO.

I was at that game. It sure as shit felt like we got smoked. :-/

If it weren't for Chad Henne and Steve Breaston it would have looked a lot worse. The second half of that game was an embarassment. We did the toe to toe mauling thing in the first half, and Pete Carroll shifted gears on us, and we didn't make the same shift.
December 9th, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
What is sad is that we could have made the shift, ala the 2008 Cap One Bowl offense. We had the tools to do it.
In the first half, we wanted to run and USC wanted to run. We could not run and USC could not run. The score was something like 3-3.
In the second half, USC adjusted and went to the air. We did not adjust. Game over, USC by 14.
What could have been.

We were essentially out of the game in the first quarter. It was a hot mess. USC throttled us. We scored late to make it look like we kept it close and even made a two point conversion, but everyone pretty much knew who controlled the game. Thank goodness the rest of my trip to SoCal was amazing.

The Gator Bowl score is on Wikipedia, which means it happened, right?
December 9th, 2011 at 3:42 PM ^
It might be on Wikipedia, but I need Dr. Faraday to explain to me our existence in the sideways universe from 2008-2010.

This thread will end well...

Think of the worst thing you have ever done in your professional career. Is it listed on your resume?
December 9th, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
Yes, I list my current position if that's what you are asking?
December 9th, 2011 at 3:24 PM ^
I would think most potential employers would get a kick out of seeing "accidentally ordered $230,000 worth of gauze in a medical inventory system" on a resume.
December 9th, 2011 at 3:15 PM ^
It happened. I was there. It was most unpleasant.
December 9th, 2011 at 3:18 PM ^
Good grief. I shudder to think of Gibson being the db coach in a conference that loves to throw the ball.

Mike Leach and his offense at WSU is going to tear them apart.

I know there is a long time before we play again, but could we please limit the number of Rich Rod threads to one per day?
December 9th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
I 100% agree.
We need to make sure there is adequate room on the board for the hourly "lets make fun of MSU for being upset at us going to BCS bowl game instead of them threads" that are absolutely mission-critical here these days.
December 9th, 2011 at 10:01 PM ^
And Bri'onte Dunn. You forgot room for the Bri'onte Dunn threads.
December 9th, 2011 at 3:46 PM ^
While RR is getting the old band back, he is following an already familiar path. Get the offense and position coaches in place and don't worry about the defense. Everyone knows that defensive coordinators are a dime a dozen - there's no need to fill that slot. All you need to do is outscore the opponents with an attacking offense. Can't lose! /sarcasm
December 9th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
Congratulations on one of the most disappointing threads ever. I thought I was going to get to read about a real conspiracy theory concerning the Gator Bowl, Ohio, and Florida. Instead, all we get is some idiot finding yet another excuse to bitch about RR almost a year after he is gone.
December 9th, 2011 at 5:46 PM ^
I'm fairly serious. Why wouldn't they list the 2011 Gator Bowl? Presumably every other bowl is listed. I am fairly certain it happened. So then, what were the terms for the parting of RR and DB and is there more to the story about the coaching staff not getting the rings. I'll admit it isn't the best conspiracy, but there are no coincidences. Maybe it is just gamesmanship on RR's part?
December 9th, 2011 at 5:07 PM ^
and I'm pretty sure the assistants didn't show up or participate. /sarcasm

I highly doubt that Lloyd has sold it on e-Bay.
