Garnett, Diamond, Reeves, Kozan, Grant - any others a possibility?

Submitted by StephenRKass on

This post is to collect some of the info out there on remaining prospects, posted by Ace two days ago, and also from Scout and the board and other sources. The consensus is that we are still in it for:

  • Garnett  (Michigan, Stanford) decision:  today, Jan. 26
  • Diamond (Michigan, Arkansas) decision:  Feb. 3
  • Reeves (Michigan, Ohio State) decision:  TBD
  • Kozan (Michigan, Iowa, Auburn) decision:  after Hoke's visit this Friday, edit: 1/27.)
  • Grant (Michigan, Arkansas, Oklahoma)  decision:  TBD

Given that Stacey decommitted and is going to Cincinnati, we have exactly five spots left. From Aqua, I gather that Garnett literally didn't know whether he would go to Stanford or Michigan as of last night. According to Ace, Diamond maintains no leader, but yesterday, an inside poster vetted by Brian suggested that Michigan has maintained a slight lead all year long for Diamond. I have seen no leader given for the others.

Of course, it would be tremendous if all five came to Michigan. I suppose the probability is low, but one can always hope.

A few questions:

  1. Is there anything missing above (i.e., decision dates, or a clear source indicating that things are leaning blue (or otherwise) for any of them? I also wonder if any are waiting for the shoe to drop with others before they pull the trigger. My suspicion is that they are all good enough, they aren't making a decision based on what anyone else does.
  2. Are there any other prospects I've missed? For example, could Gregory receive an offer if one of the others goes elsewhere? FTR, I'm assuming from Ace & Scout that the ship has sailed for Dodson, Madaris, & Diggs. (BTW, what happened with Diggs? I don't remember.)
  3. I know that Hoke is visiting Kozan, and that he visited Garnett, and that Mattison visited Reeves Tuedsday. Are there any more visits planned, beyond Kozan?

Regarding the remaining recruits, I really want all of them for Michigan, and can't choose between them. Can you? Garnett, Diamond, and Reeves are all highly skilled, and could make an impact soon. (What an OL class!!! Best ever?) And Kozan & Grant are both in positions of significant need, even though they're not rated as highly. Michigan already has a very good class. May these five put the cherry on top and set us up well for the future.

We will get Grant and that's it.  Diamond goes to the SEC, Garnett goes to Stanford and Reeves goes to OSU.  Overall, we end up with about the 10th best class.  Not bad and we will build on it next year.  Again, when is the last time we landed a top recruit when he was considering us and another top program?  This will change in the future, however, not yet..

Ummm pretty close to our entire recruiting class chose between us and several top programs.

There are too many recruiting sites calling for Grant and Diamond to Michigan not to be at least somewhat confident that we will end up with at least those two. They are not perfect, but they do this for a living and normally have a good guage about where a kid may end up.

I hope they whiff on Garnett though.

Agree on Grant going Blue. Kalis, his teammate at St. Ed's, will help pull Grant to Ann Arbor, and we are close to home for him, making it easier for his family to get to games. Regarding the others, I think we get at least one of the OL prospects (Garnett, Diamond, & Kozan.) And Reeves, I just don't know which way he'll turn. Apparently, even the News won't predict on him.

Anyway, if we end up with just two or even three of the remaining five, that's a great end to the class. I do think that Mattison especially, but also Hoke, are doing a great job. Their recruiting savvy, along with the fact the ship is righted at Michigan and the facilities are up to speed, pulls in some of the blue chips we have been missing on in recent years.

The other thing, which has been mentioned elsewhere, is we have had a huge advantage in focusing on just a handful of guys, and more than that, on the 2013 class. Getting that jump has been a great thing, along with Shane Morris & Dymonte Thomas helping to recruit. I do think that having a great class next year is huge . . . recruiting builds on itself, and doesn't happen overnight.

Since I've been following recruiting closely since 1975, I would have to say the best OL class we ever had was in the late 70's that included Bubba Paris and Ed Muransky, I forget the other 3 guys, but I remember them being pretty good in their careers.

That class I think might have been Soph's or JR's in 1980 when we had Butch Woolfolk & Anthony Carter and if there was a playoff in College Football, U-M was probably the best team in the nation at the end of that year, we beat ohio in C'Bus & hardly gave up any points the last 4-5 games of that season. We gave up 3 pts to ohio & 6 pts to Wash in the Rose Bowl.

One of my favorite M teams of all time, we were dominant. It's too bad we lost close games to S. Car & ND that year, we coulda beat a Freshman Herschel Walker and the Georgia Bulldogs IMHO, they ended up winning it that year.

So we shall see what this OL class will do in their careers, hopefully they will be the best ever, that will mean great things for our Offense.

Garnett to Michigan based on my gut feeling. Great players like playing along side other great players. Stanford should fade back into the middle of the pack as we are heading back towards the top. Add that to a 115,000 fans and a pretty damn good academics. Boom he's blue

Getting Garnett & Kozan & Reeves would mean adding 3 States  to our recruiting footprint and show Sparty that that's what being a National Recruiter really is. Sparty fans crack me up, they have such an inferiority complex that it's annoying.

Found it interesting that Garnett along with great football tradition, coaching etc he wants a school that has a great bioengineering program. Upon searching google I found an article listing Michigan as the #8 school in the country and Stanford at #12. There's another great advantage for Michigan
