Game time for BYU?

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on
Does anyone know if a game time has been released for the BYU game? Just saw something on Bleacher Reports saying 3pm but it's....you know.....Bleacher Report. The likelihood that's truthful is about the same as us wearing all maize road unis.

You won't know until game week. Only the first 3 game times are usually known before the season. Plan on 3:30. Hope for Noon.

You know, before I tailgated I always wished for noon games because the game came quicker, I could get up, pick up my dad, park and get into the stadium with like an hour before kickoff. But now that we tailgate I much prefer the 3:30 games because it gives me time to eat, drink and watch some other games prior to kickoff. Noon games just don't allow much time to tailgate and tailgating is pretty darn fun. So I can definately see both sides.

What about Harbaugh makes you think he'd want to play at one? This is the guy that subtweets Meyer the day after signing day, signs autographs for Elena Kagen, pissed off the entire coaching establishment in the southeast and then "remidied that" by sending out an open letter inviting every staff in America to Ann Arbor and decided to take M football to Jordan branding.

That's in less than nine months.

If I had to guess, he'd put every Michigan game on the biggest stage he could, assuming there wasn't some competitive advange he could gain.

Bo also retired at 60 and looked/seemed every bit of 80 at the time. Age is a sliding scale... the whole "50 is the new 40" thing isn't just a catchphrase to sell moms skinny jeans, it's an actual result of advances in medical technology.

I thought this was where you tell him about the All Maize roadie WD?!

I'm in SF, so your noon is my 9am... unless it's osu (YTOSU) I'd prefer not 9am. Many of us gather at the local, where they fly an M banner behind the bar. To say the group is smaller & more subdued at 9 would be a massive understatement.

Everyone's ham n egging it instead of shot n kegging it, if ya know what I mean.

nothing yet.  Hope we keep messing with the west coast team's times and play a nooner.  But it'll probably be 330

There are so many good games to watch played at 330.  Being I'm not going to the game, I hope for noon.  Seems like there's nothing to watch at 12.  Perfect time to devote all my attention to Michigan.

Idk anything but I'm 80% sure it will be 330.

I know many people want a later game. HOWEVA, in this case a Noon game would help Michigan because BYU is coming from two time zones away.

I live on the West Coast, so games times for me are either 9am, 1230pm, or 5pm for night games. Personally I'd be happy if the season broke down like this:

6 games @ 9am (noon)

4 games @ 1230pm (330pm)

2 game @ 5pm (8pm)

I completely understand why those of you who go to the games don't like the early starts, but for me they're great and here's why. When I wake up at like 7am Saturday morning, I'm ready for Michigan football. I don't need 5 hours to drink and I don't like dealing with that nervous anticipation all day long. I also like that there is rarely something that interferes with a 9am kickoff out here, and the bars open early for the games if I want to watch with other Wolverines. When Michigan wins that early game, it's a glorious day. It's only 1230, and I have the rest of the day to enjoy the victory.

Obviously, my reasons may not apply to a lot of you. But what's apparent to me in this thread is that all of us have different priorities, obligations, and things going on in our lives that makes certain game times better or worse. There is no right answer.

"all of us have different priorities, obligations, and things going on in our lives that makes certain game times better or worse."

I'd agree with this, but add, that the right answer to me given what you said is balance between start times. I personally prefer 3:30 games, but I don't think all games should be at 3:30. The fact that we have a fanbase with diverse needs means that we shouldn't have a standard game time.

The reason I want BYU at 3:30 is because it's a game that can receive much more national attention than most of our other home games, but also, more importantly, because UNLV and Oregon State are already noon games, with Rutgers and OSU likely at noon as well. I think 5 noon games out of 7 is too much. National attention/better start times definitely help us with recruiting as well.

My ideal home slate is to have one night game a year against the best non-Ohio State opponent (still bitter about this year), and then split 3 and 3 between noon and 3:30, with the MAC level teams and Ohio State at noon and the middle tier games at 3:30.

veers into the time slot issue and how the time slot impacts our lives parantethically or not, or whether a particular game time is more appealing because the buildup is less, creates greater anticipation or anxiety.

It seems to me that clearly over time, Michigan has gone away from the home game standard of noon or 1 pm starts long favored by Bo and school adminisrators so fans and players could enjoy a Saturday game and then have the rest of the day off with family and friends, while making travel and security less burdensome. Of course, this also reduced the cocktail hours before kickoff..

Obviously now, TV dictates matchups and to a large extent, time frames even though schools usually have the last word on game time because of security questions. That issue along with tradition has always dictated when Michigan plays Ohio State. Michigan State has rarely ever been a night game start, but most of the remarkable finishes in the series over the past two decades have occurred under the lights with 3:30 pm start times in late fall making the second half a virtual night game. And I've always liked that. Braylonfest comes to mind as the best example of that, but the horror of clockgate in EL was a nighttime terror.

Because Michigan didn't play night games at home, you knew those late fall games starting at 3:30 pm were going to end in nightfall, which made the atmosphere around the Big House more electric. I specifically remember being at the Big House and watching Michigan beat Penn State with Chris Perry barely breaking the plane of the end zone, and how that OT victory seemed more intense as night fell. That was also the case in the later win at home against Penn State with "Touchdown Manningham."

The one time Michigan-Ohio State went to the late start in 2006 that game's huge drama ended in darkness and it seemed even more compelling because of it. So, I like those games, because they bridge the day and the night, ancipation and outcome, in metaphorical light and dark imagery. The middle kingdom games on Saturday are for me more significant as a result, even though they aren't considered prime time.

I hate waiting around all day for the Saturday night games. But obviously, Michigan is always the priority whenever it plays. It's the only game that matters and making time to watch it is the only thing I worry about.

Noon games are the best.  Don't you guys have things to do during the day?  3:30 wastes an entire day.  Plus on the west coast you roll out of bed to football.
