G'town off the 3 line?

Submitted by ish on

Georgetown's loss might push them behind us if we win at least one game.  It certainly could help us firm up a 3 seed.

Yeah, I'd say that helps us. I think winning one game gets us a three seed. I think winning two assures it, and winning three gets us a two seed.

but that margin just got bigger w/ g'town's loss.  if we lose our first game, the last 3 seed probably comes down to a decision btwn us and G'town.  though don't forget to root against marquette.

also, Ken, we don't yet know if we play N'western.  in fact, let's hope for Minny.

Gtown beat Memphis Twice and Alabama (@ AL) out of conference. They beat Lville, ND, Marq and UConn in conference. The losses late hurt their chances for a 3 seed but there is not a big difference in their schedule v Michigan. Both played in tough conferences and it may have hurt Gtown to only play some of the top conference team only once. Where as Michigan was able to play top teams twice.

Right now, I think we're probably the "worst" 3 seed (as far as what people are projecting, not what I actually think), Gtown probably still has a 3 seed but them losing might give us an easier bracket, i.e. we'll still be a 3 seed, just have an easier easier draw than some of the other 3 seeds

Michigan has a higher seed than Georgetown on 30 brackets and a lower seed on just 10, and that was before Georgetown's loss today. I don't think it's true that Michigan's generally seen as the weekest 3. On average they're second of the 4 teams on the 3 line.

If we win against Minn/NW I htink we get a 3- because an OSU (if they win as expected) loss is nothing to be ashamed of and Georgetown lost- not sure nay of the 4 seeds now could jump us?  If we lose then maybe there is a case- but I feel ok about our chances of being a three seed- lots of top wins and a split big ten- the 4 seed players right now will have a hard time jumping that.  Even if we get a 4 seed thats not too big a deal- think we can do alright from a 4- not too much harder than being a 3 since the 1/4 matchup is not too much worse than a 2/3 IMO.

GTown (and hopefully Marquette) losing, plus a win vs Minny virtually guarantees a Columbus or Pittsburgh location. That would be huge - much easier trips than Nashville or Louisville for the fans.

If we win the BTT, I think we'll be a 2 seed.  I know well that we are a very solid 3 everywhere.  But if we tie the B1G and win the BTT, I bet we'll become a 2.

And hang another banner.

We absolutely need to beat Minnesota now.  Their RPI was 91 entering today.  Win that game and the #3 seed should be sewn up.  A loss and we might drop.

Looking at the box score (and after watching the game) Minnesota put together a pretty decent game, aside from some bonehead moves at the end to almost blow it.

They only had 14 TO and 18 fouls, both decent for an OT game, especially since at least three of those fouls, albeit stupid ones, were in OT.  They had 6 steals and 4 blocks to go along with 13 offensive rebounds.  They had four starters score in doubel digits, and the fifth had double digit rebounds.  They shot 42.3% from deep on 26 attempts.  That's dirty.

Both of their bigs had 4 fouls, which I believe they had before OT.  And I use the word "bigs" pretty loosely, their starting four is about as much of a four as Novak is, a couple inches taller but about 15 pounds lighter.  He's pretty good, but when Smot comes in at the 4 he should push him around, especially since he logged 41 minutes tonight.

If anything it may hurt, because we're going to be a higher 3-seed. The better teams are going to be seeded on East and in the South.

I want no parts of Syracuse or UK.
