Fuller as only "QB" in this recruiting class?
So it seems that the coaching staff is pretty set on taking a QB in this class. To be honest, I'd be pretty bummed if we gave up one of the few precious remaining spots in this class to a "meh" QB just to have a back-up insurance policy.
That being the case, the question arises: Do you guys think that if Devin Fuller ended up committing that the coaches would be content to have him as the only "QB" for the class, even though he'd probably end up playing some other position down the line? It seems like the perfect win-win. Fuller gets playing time regardless, the team has the QB insurance policy, and the roster spot is put to great use.
Granted, getting Fuller is the hard part here, but do you think this is a possibility?
"Devin Fuller will visit Ann Arbor"
would be an awesome get. I think you let him try at QB...redshirt him, let him compete. If he succeeds, all the better. If not, this is a kid that can play about 5 different positions successfully.
I don't think he is a ND lock at all, FWIW.
Fuller is either the second or third most important prospect left on our board, depending on how you view Pipkins and Kalis.
I think if they were to land him, they'd still look at taking a QB if they thought the QB was worthy of an offer.
The reason I say this is, apparently the coaches have communicated to Fuller that they'd like him for defense (as a CB or S). Which is a little puzzling, given we have 3 commits already and have Wilson announcing a week from today.
I feel like we would probably take Fuller and either Mauk or Kiel, but if we get Fuller, we wouldn't offer another QB. He can fill a lot of roles, and it'd be huge to get him on campus.
He hasn't officially scheduled a visit yet, has he?
Calm down Waggles.
To answer your questions:
1) Like I said, he's being recruited by us (Mallory) for a DB spot at the moment.
2) He hasn't scheduled a visit yet, but he's talked about it sometime in July. I think the probability of the visit is extremely high. He has basically said, "I will fly out to Michigan, and visit only Michigan that weekend".
Wow I am impressed. This guy can play... If we brought him in as a free safety and redshirted him, I believe he could be a huge player.
Sersiously... like a less raw Denard.
Fuller really looks like a less raw Denard as a recruit, so I have to believe that if the Denard/Borges experiment goes well, he would stay at QB if recruited.
Less raw Denard? Not as a QB. Denard's arm in HS was better than Fuller's, at least in my opinion.
Raw doesn't mean arm strength. Raw refers to his polish as a player, and Denard completed like 40% of his passes as a senior.
I know what raw means, but as far as QBs go, I consider Fuller to be rawer. Fuller looks like he could be a dominant safety or corner, but his passes are lofted, his reads are poor, and his footwork in the pocket gets messy at times. On Denard's HS Highlight Reel, he's got great zip on his balls, reads the defense alright, and shows effective dropbacks. He just seems like a more polished QB to me coming out of HS, regardless of his completion percentage.
Again, just an opinion.
denard seems to be a better overall athlete as well. notthing against fuller he looks like a great athlete but denard really is a once in a generation athlete, prolly fastest and quickest at the same time player in college football right now.
I dunno about that. Haven't Tay Odoms, Woolfolk (and I think I'm missing someone here) all beaten him in footraces, actually repeatedly beaten him in footraces? I remember someone mentioning that a while ago.
Now, he's probably the fastest QB in CFB, but I dunno about fastest player...
there is a difference between 40 time (sprint speed) and speed with pads on while playing (the one that actually matters) there's no question Denard has the best football speed on this team. Tay runs like a duck and Woolfolk has been beaten plenty of times over the top.
Fuller is a superb athlete and all of us would love to have him on board in any capacity, but if he wants to play QB then he will most likely sign with a spread team. The only hope that I have is that he will see how well Denard does in the Borges offense (please!) and gets the idea that he could do the same.

What an offer list. It would have been easier to just put down any school that didn't offer him.
- Middle Tenn State
- Louisiana Lafayette
- Eastern Michigan
If he is half the person Denard is both on and off the field. You take him as a QB. Seems to have a strong arm.
I have no idea how Rutgers is doing with him but I'm assuming Jeff Hafley is recruiting him. The guy is a great recruiter. He used to poach Jersey talent for Wanny at Pitt. As soon as Wanny got fired Schiano scooped him up immediately. He's now responsible for North Jersey recruiting which I would assume includes Fuller since he goes to Old Tappan. Like UM I would assume Rutgers would want him as a DB too.
I just saw this article on Scout a few days ago. Says Rutgers has really been growing in his eyes, mainly because of Hafley. Calls him 'his boy'.
Looks like Devin is doing a live chat on rivals at 6 pm tonight. Lucky for us it also looks to be free content. Enjoy

Tom do we actually have a legitimate chance with Devin?
I think we have a shot at Devin if he makes it on campus. Our coaches have been straight with him telling him that we want him primarily on defense. Devin has said he prefers offense but he hasn't shot down the idea of playing defense.
I think many people are very anxious to see what our offense is going to look like this year. I am confident, maybe overly confident, in Borges to implement the type of offense needed to win. I think we are going to be seeing less "man ball" than we think. Borges ran various formations while he was at SDSU. Just go back and watch the Bowl Game vs Navy.
