Shipyard pumpkin ale on draft from Portland, ME with my bride after watching our own Indy Matt play some high school soccer!
September 23rd, 2022 at 9:04 PM ^
I haven't been to shipyard since 2007, but i really enjoyed them back then.
September 23rd, 2022 at 10:23 PM ^
Way to go Indy Matt!!! What position does he play? I played a bit of college soccer 24 years ago. LOL.
I’ve never been able to get into flavored beers. Love enjoying all the Oktoberfest's released this time of year!!!
September 23rd, 2022 at 11:36 PM ^
Matthew plays on the wing, outside midfield. He is working hard and excelling! Where did you play college soccer? I played some HS and college soccer back in the day and still play with Matthew and his young brother and twin sisters.
September 24th, 2022 at 6:51 AM ^
I played center mid in HS and defensive mid in college. I played for Palm Beach Atlantic Univ, a Private Christian college in West Palm Beach, FL.
We weren’t very good when I was there, but they have become a powerhouse of DII soccer for probably a decade now.
Where did you play? Also, my oldest is “Matthew”. We don’t call him “Matt”. My only request to my wife was to call our son whatever we named him.

First of all, cheers! Second of all, shipyard is soooo bad (sorry). There's a reason Mainers refer to it as shityard. Poor man's Sam Adams, which is itself not a craft brewery. Go Blue.

Just ended my shift at Right Brain Brewery. I’m enjoying their Free Play IPA. It’s cooling down up here, so tomorrow sounds like a stout/porter day. No Rules?
September 23rd, 2022 at 8:58 PM ^
Yes. Go into stout szn with a good 15% boi….

A client gifted me a bottle of Masterson's rye aged 10 years..... turns out, it's Alberta Rye, 10 year, sold to Mastersons distillery in CA, labeled with a cool story about Bat Masterson..... I'm using it for Manhattans, that should pretty much tell you what I think of the liquor.... I very much appreciate the gesture & will put the bottle to good use. I have a variety of Octoberfest beers hilled for tomorrow's game, Ellicottville, New Trail & North Country Brewing are in the mix. Go Blue!
September 23rd, 2022 at 10:37 PM ^
I thought mastersons was MGP. Either way, sucks that it isn't good. I like the age stated MGP and Alberta ryes I've had.
September 24th, 2022 at 4:46 AM ^
@MgoHillbilly, I have a bottle of Mammoth 15 year Northern Rye store pick that is pretty good. 132 proof to boot too. Will probably get another one soon. If you are interested, let me know via email.👍🥃
Drinking a variety of bourbon and beer on the golf course tailgate today.
Go Blue 🏈🏈🏈

I am currently unwell, with a sore throat, so I'm having a London Fog. Tea..Earl Grey..hot, heavy cream, dash vanilla, a lot of honey, and a tiny pinch of sugar. It's like drinking a hug.

As long as I can remember, my dad's suggested cure for every ailment was a shot of blackberry brandy. As an adult, I asked him if Blackberry brandy actually cures anything & his reply..... "I don't think it cures anything, it just makes you feel better". Polish logic..... u can't argue that. Hope you're feeling well soon.
September 23rd, 2022 at 9:30 PM ^
Get well soon. Captain Picard approves of your medicine.
September 23rd, 2022 at 11:37 PM ^
Feel better soon!
When I was sick enough as a kid, my folks swore by a hot toddy -- whiskey, honey, lemon. I always slept great after a slug of that. It was many years before I understood why......
Oh, and not drinking tonight.....If I get a pizza for the game tomorrow, then beer will be the beverage of choice with it. Just something about having beer with pizza.....
September 23rd, 2022 at 9:26 PM ^
And dick? Every stripper I ever met had the same story, it's always meth & dick....
September 23rd, 2022 at 9:55 PM ^
I thought they were all working to acquire seed money for their software start-up or is that just a story from the 90's?

Tonight Mountain Dew
Tomorrow morning tailgate Oberon

Murphy's draught Irish stout.
It's been a week. 90 year old Dad fell and is in the hospital with a compression fracture of his 12th vertebrae. And his schizophrenia is getting worse too.
Lord, please take me early rather than late.
September 23rd, 2022 at 9:39 PM ^
Sorry to hear about your Dad.
Aging parents can be so difficult. Just went through a week where my Dad (advanced diabetic and Alzheimers) had an ER visit, while Mom was getting shoulder replacement surgery.
Those quiet moments with a beer and sunset are the only thing that's kept me sane.
September 23rd, 2022 at 10:44 PM ^
Yeah, and it's really hard when everyone lives in a different state. My brother and I are on duty now, but we both have wives and children that need us back home.
Unless you're super wealthy, there just aren't any easy answers when it comes to long-term elder care in this country.
September 23rd, 2022 at 10:58 PM ^
Same story. I'm an only child (two deceased brothers) and live in a different state, but probably can't much longer. Fortunately, a cousin could stay with them during the recent debacle.
Take care.
September 23rd, 2022 at 9:45 PM ^
Here's to you, friend, and to your father.
September 23rd, 2022 at 11:40 PM ^
Sorry to hear about your Dad. I am 24/7 caregiver for Mom (dementia following a big stroke, etc.) so I get it.
It's the small moments of self-care that get us through. Years ago, I never would have thought that a beer on the porch would be such a big deal, but it is.

Red wine tonight; Gnarly Head Old Vin Zin.
Likely going to have some Sam Adams October Fest as I stain the deck. Going to record the game and watch later - commercial free!

Southern Tier Pumking
September 23rd, 2022 at 10:24 PM ^
Love me some Southern Tier Pumking. Their Warlock imperial pumpkin stout is solid as well.
At the moment, finishing off a Uinta pumpkin ale. With a 10a kick-off out here in Colorado, will probably just nurse a few Founder's All Day's during the game so I can get some stuff done after the game.
September 24th, 2022 at 12:32 AM ^
Hell Yeah!
Top to bottom Southern Tier (NY) might just be the best craft brewery in the country.

Remus Reserve VI. Decent pour of bourbon for sure…doesn’t live up to the Remus V which was much older juice, but yummy still the same.

Wife is out of town for the second weekend in a row and I'm watching all the kids again. Breaking out the good stuff.

What's your address?

I live in a van down by the river
September 23rd, 2022 at 11:04 PM ^
I thought hillbillies live in "the double-wide down by the four-lane".
I dated a girl from West Virginia for a while, so I speak some hillbilly.
September 23rd, 2022 at 11:19 PM ^
Saving up for a triple wide. Hard to do when I'm drinking this stuff.
September 23rd, 2022 at 11:27 PM ^
Nice! Hang in there. The kids will be glad they don't have to all sleep in the same bed anymore, especially the teenagers.
September 23rd, 2022 at 10:58 PM ^
Nice! Just wanted to give a quick thanks... a few years back in one of these drinking threads I took a shot at Readbreast per your comment and have enjoyed it since!
September 23rd, 2022 at 11:22 PM ^
Good stuff. I always have some on hand.
September 24th, 2022 at 7:20 AM ^

If there's ever anything you want from Georgia I can l look for for you and you want to do a swap, I don't mind sending samples of stuff like this.

Upper hand brewing ipa and some Busch lights for me while cleaning out the garage for a watch party tomorrow. Tv and beer fridge in the garage and a fire pit outside for post game. And by watch party I mean me and my buddy who have been watching together since 7th grade (20! Years ago) because he is the only one who understands my emotions during games. Go blue!
