Friday Night BBQ, Beverage, Final Four, etc. Thread

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on March 31st, 2023 at 9:01 PM

Mates,

Big day today for our school.  Jadyn Davis is indeed coming.  Brandon Naurato is staying.  And Hunter Dickenson appears to be going.   We also haven't had a Friday Night thread in a while and I'm about to fire up the BBQ for the family.

Beyond that, it is Final Four weekend and it is a pretty unique group of four with the highest rated team still standing is a....4 seed.  Wild.  I'm not going to do the searching but that has to be a unique circumstance in the history of the tournament.  Saturday's games start at 6 PM with 9-seed FAU taking on 5-seed SDSU.   In the late game 5-seed Miami (YTM) takes on 4-seed UCONN.

Tonight's questions:

1.  Pick your Final Four winners, semi's and championship.

2.  What's on your BBQ/in your glass?

3.  How do you think Davis' confirmed commitment effects Michigan's remaining 2024 class prospects?

Have a great weekend,

XM

I gotta be honest, I'm having a really hard time kicking this bad mood after the Hunter news. Just seems like the basketball team has been one dong kick after another over the past 8 months. I'm pretty close to checking out until the fall for my own sanity.

Poured a big ol' glass of vino about 10 mins ago. Picking Miami to win it all.

somehow i think we'll be okay.  i would definitely prefer hunter to stay, and assumedly there is still some chance of that, but even without him i just have to think that juwan will fill in the blanks, get a couple of transfers, and it won't be as worrisome as we might think.

after watching UCONN, i think that's my choice tomorrow, playing SDSU in the finals.

For the record, I'm picking Miami for selfish reasons lol

I'm in 1st place in both my brackets. The only way I can lose? If UConn wins it all, on both. I can still win $450 but if Uconn loses, I will like $1,100, hence Go Canes!

Appreciate the encouraging words on the bball team. I loved the Coach Howard hire but I'm really starting to doubt it :-/

I got UConn winning the whole thing in a not-particularly close Final Four.

I got Theory over Cena, and Reigns over Rhodes.

Trying not to drink.

Got Ribeyes for tomorrow.  Pretty pumped.

Don't care, the game of basketball is dead to me, just like my bracket.

It was pizza night.  Sticking to water, staying hydrated

Class is going to fill in fast and fill in nicely with a lot of upper end talent.  Still not enough five stars to suit the stargazers but lots of the guys the coaches want.  Davis effect was being felt even before he committed.  There will be a nutpunch or two along the way, but on balance crootin will be better than it has been.

For the first time in a long time, I really would be happy with any of the 4 winning it all. That being said, I think UConn is going to roll and it will be a forgettable Final Four despite being a very, very memorable tournament.

And to the OP's point, yes it's been a very unique tournament. First time none of the top 3 seeds has made the Final Four since seeding began. First time the Final Four has had 3 virgin teams since 1970 (if you can name those 3 teams without looking it up, you deserve a medal).

Today was a hard day with the kids. My toddler was screaming constantly and everything set him off. My baby is teething hard, refused to nap, and was cranky all day as a result.

I'm drinking a bottle of wine. It's red. It's 15% alcohol. Cheers.

sorry about that re: toddler.  like many, been there and you have my/our sympathies.  i will say that when that was going on with ours, the thing that i thought was best was simply to walk with them on my chest, quietly talking to them sometimes.  the crying kind of ends up being like water off a duck's tail to you (hopefully) and frequently junior cried it out.

enjoy your red pop.

car rides man. strap the kids in, roll a window down a tad and play kids music at a low level. cruise the back country roads at 40 mph. I would just talk “oh there’s a big oak tree. You know that’s an oak by the shape of the leaves. I wonder if we’ll see a maple?”  two kids and that never failed me

Have to roll with UConn. They look really tough right now. My head says SDSU, but my heart says FAU. Going with my heart.

I just got home from Spring Break with the family. Have to grocery shop yet so BBQ is a possibility this weekend.

I think Davis will def bring a few studs along for the ride. I’m not big into following recruiting, so I don’t have names, but a top QB commit will probably bring some dang good offensive options with him.

Hope everyone has a good weekend

FYI --- Lots of ballz, futurecasts, on3 predictions etc. coming in today for 4* Andrew Sprague.  6'8" 290# OT out of Missouri.

Per Sam Webb, Andrew is the top LT prospect on UMs radar (outside of the 5* longshots) and is rated #160 overall on the 247 composite.  Andrew will be on campus for the game tomorrow.......

We also made the top 5 today (as expected) of legacy 4* OL Blake Frazier out of Austin TX -- #204 Overall on the 247 Composite

I'm hoping for SDSU over Uconn.

Smoked steak, Brunswick stew, red wine, and a Tabernacle cigar.

I think Davis will lead to other commitments soon.

I can't-not see Naruto every time I see our hockey coaches name, I imagine him running/skating face first everywhere with his arms swept back.

Have a great weekend everybody, you're all awesome.

We grill aplenty out here on the prairie-over an Osage Orange wood fire. We have had sustained 25-40 mph winds with gusts over 50 for the past two days. We are in a severe drought-very limited burning allowed-could burn thousands of acres in the blink of an eye right now. So, only a crock potted pork loin here tonight.

We have dispersed all our livestock. Just picked up our last homegrown beef from the butcher earlier this week. Now that is truly "bittersweet". Nothing like your own aged beef. (Opting for more travel in our retirement. Not wanting to put the all responsibilities of chores on friends and neighbors.)

We just helped our son move into his apartment tonight. He's now off buying stuff at Target and we're back home watching women's basketball. It's nice to have him home.

Thank you! The most fun thing happened on opening day. My husband, a lifelong Cubs fan, works security for the Cubs and so I sent both he and my son off to Wrigley for their respective opening days. My husband texted me before the game and said, "I just saw Henry (my son) on the concourse and he waved!" It was so cute, and a huge moment of pride for my husband. He dreamed of working at Wrigley as a kid, and now he does and so does his son.

1. I got UCONN for the men, LSU for the women

2. Kosmos Bibimbap and... well, just water tonight.

3. I think Davis kicks off some commitments in the next 2 weeks from big names like Prieskorn and some of the OL we're in on. That 4star DE Brian Robinson I think will have a similar effect on the defense and I read he will commit soon after Davis. I do think they will be more spread out in general though as we are in on more high level kids that will be making announcements that will get a lot of attention. So I don't think it will be an avalanche, but hopefully a steady snowfall.

Cheers!

South Carolina playing the chunk it at the hoop and go "overpower them".  They can't shoot and play the actual game.  Fun offense, that.

Clark and Iowa has otherwise shown the fuck up! GO HAWKS!!!

1. FAU & UCONN. UCONN wins on Monday, with their 3rd title in 12 years and 5th in the last 25. It’s crazy that they still aren’t considered a “Blue Blood” but programs like MSU and Arizona with one title in the last 25 are.

2. Light vodka and seltzer tonight as we pack for Jamaica with my Mgowife and 6 & 1 year old boys. My Mgobrother & wife and their 3 kids are accompanying us.

3. Big time. This class will rival 2016.

Pulling for SDSU because of Coach Dutcher.

My wonderful wife made spaghetti for us to celebrate our daughters boyfriend's birthday. Got him a bottle of Weller. I had a couple pours of Bowman Brothers small batch.

Excited about the JD recruiting news.

Drink:

  • 3 Oz Benham’s Gin
  • 6-8 Fresh Basil Leaves From The Garden
  • 2-3 Sliced Strawberries
  • 1 Oz Honey
  • 1 Oz Blackberry Liqueur
  • 2 Oz Soda Water (Optional)

Go either SDSU or FAU. Hope they win the whole damn thing.

Go Iowa. I don’t want South Carolina to win. And I can’t stand Kim Mulkey (LSU coach) and the stories I’ve heard from a family friend (a recently crazy highly-drafted Baylor WBB player) made me dislike her even more.

1. Dutch vs UCONN. Game will be IMO a tossup just looking at the matchups and style of play. I will definitely take the points on Draft Kings if they both make it.

2. Tomorrow, Pommes Pave' and sous vide Lobster tails...tomorrow for anniversary dinner. Opening my last bottle of raspberry riesling from Firelands Winery. Sounds fancy, but not expensive if you know how to cook.

3. FB recruiting now should have the expectations of a floor @ #5 and Ceiling @ Top 2.

You have a great weekend as well XM.
