Friday NCAAFB: UCONN @ Rutgers, Okie St at UL-Lafayette
7:30p ESPN: UCONN (-4.5) @ Rutgers (O/U: 43.5)
9:30p ESPN2: Oklahoma State (-24) @ UL-Lafayette (O/U: 62)
Double header on a Friday night, well kind of. For those of you at the bar tonight, or those stuck at home, there is some mild "entertainment" on the WWL in the form of a "who can suck worse" Big East conference game and a ranked Big XII opponent playing on the road in the Sun Belt.
Early Game
First game looks to be a snoozer. UCONN may not be as good as advertised in the preseason. They're currently 3-2 overall, but their wins are unimpressive at best. They've beaten FCS Texas State, a pretty good FCS team, Buffalo and Vandy. We all know their first loss, but the other came against a decent Temple squad that gave Penn State fits a few weeks ago too.
Rutgers is the Rutgers that the blue hairs remember - only slightly better defensively. They are only giving up 12 points per game this season, but that's against a schedule featuring Norfolk State (W), Florida International (W), a close game with the shell of UNC (L), and a loss(!) to the Tulane Green Wave.
I'm liking UCONN to cover. Rutgers is bad. No idea on the O/U. I'm feeling the under, but no confidence.
Late Game
Pokes at Rajun Cajuns. I don't think this game is in doubt at all. Okie State is worth the watch though. They're one of the undefeated Big XII teams (Mizzou being the other) flying under the radar right now. They haven't played anyone of interest yet (Wazzou, Troy, Tulsa, and TAMU), but they've played at least decent in the games. Something tells me they'll be looking to improve on that Thursday nationally televised game against A&M. I like them to cover the spread and some. I'm feeling something in the 50-3 range, much like the UL-L 7-55 loss to Georgia to open the season, so I'm taking the under.

Runs a spread offense similar to ours?
October 8th, 2010 at 8:05 PM ^
Their offense is probably closer to Texas Tech's under Mike Leach.

That offense looked great with Harrell and Crabtree.

Go Huskies! Make our win look legitimate!

Nice KO returns there. At least for the returning team each time...
October 8th, 2010 at 8:05 PM ^
Wow. I never have seen a KO just die like that that wasn't on a muddy field.

Endres is now playing QB for UConn. Was Frazer benched, or is he injured?
October 8th, 2010 at 8:10 PM ^
I assume benched. Not listed on the injury report.

He was benched cause he flat out sucks..
Once Endres wasn't suspended from the drug thing or w/e he took over as QB

First off, Go Rutgers.
Lately I've seen a lot return guys getting smothered by defenders on fair catches. They're supposed to have that protected halo room. I don't see that flag thrown anymore.

NCAA eliminated it a few years back

Every win helps us.

Zoltan quality punt right there.

I'm still thinking UConn is going to open it up in the 2nd half like they did last week with Vandy. Or at least I hope they do.
October 8th, 2010 at 9:25 PM ^
2nd half? I meant 2nd Quarter...

Todman had been bottled all game, and the bottle just "popped." So says Nessler.
October 8th, 2010 at 8:54 PM ^
Chas Dodd is looking good for Rutgers. Pretty steady performance from a freshman.
October 8th, 2010 at 9:07 PM ^
This game has the feel of the UMass game. Rutgers was in complete control and then in the blink of an eye, UConn took the lead.

October 8th, 2010 at 10:52 PM ^
to change that statement? 21-17 UL-LA.
October 8th, 2010 at 11:27 PM ^
And OSU woke up at half time. Now 31-21 Pokes.

No. Michigan-UMASS was a very close and competitive game. Do I think we should do a home and home and play at UMASS? No. Having a competitive game is separate from the assertion that a BCS school shouldn't have to give up the revenue of an entire home game in a season (by doing a home and home) to schedule a Sun Belt team.

Is anyone still watching the UConn game? The least exciting down to the wire game I've seen in a while.
October 8th, 2010 at 11:13 PM ^
I was rooting for UConn, but Edsall did not exactly win me over. I'm not impressed with him as a gameday coach at all.
October 8th, 2010 at 11:09 PM ^
Thx for nothing UConn.
October 8th, 2010 at 11:10 PM ^
Down goes UConn. Makes our win even less impressive. Very boring game.
October 8th, 2010 at 11:28 PM ^
Dammit. I knew I should have made the trip to Lafayette for tonight's game. Oh well.
October 8th, 2010 at 11:51 PM ^
It's 3rd down in Lafayette, so - you guessed it - time to play the gong from "Hell's Bells"!

What the hell is the Rajun Cajun mascot? Is that a cayene pepper in a pair of football pants?
October 9th, 2010 at 12:04 AM ^
Apparently yes.
October 9th, 2010 at 12:15 AM ^
UL's QB looks damn good. He is making some spectacular throws. Having posted this, I expect a pick in 3..2...1...
October 9th, 2010 at 12:18 AM ^
ARGH! Why Wildcat when you're an undersized underdog on 4th and 1 with a QB that has played spectacular? Horrible play call.
