Let's not act like UM is some perfect paradise of perfect people.
Sammy and SDT usually consist of rich kids from NY/NJ who clearly had blatant disregard for decency. It's fairly obvious these kids thought money could just sweep everything under the rug here, which in a about a week or so will happen after the news cycle. They will get sanctioned by nationals and the university and people will be on their merry way.
That's just the reality of the situation. Hopefully the press is bad enough that these idiots learn something from the punishment.

This type of damage has been going on for decades, both at UM and at other schools. Hell, out here in NYC a Columbia frat was busted a couple of years ago because a couple members (I believe) were selling drugs out of the chapter's house. Stuff happens everywhere.
The fact you called them homos and pussies, though, that is totally closing the gap between UM and the mouth-breathers. Apparently you now speak for the UM community, based on the same logic you used in condemning every fraternity member here.

They were all over 18 and are young adults! Hard to believe for this type of vandalism they were not arrested! Hopefully they will learn a big lesson!

If they trashed a room or two, whatever they're young and stupid. Some sort of minor sanctions from the school and or national office of the frat is all that is necessary. This goes way beyond that and is felony vandalism. The lack of charges, of any kind, is unbelievable. Not only should they face legal charges, but some if not all of them should be expelled from the university.

Why is everyone complaining? How else will Silver Spoons and Trust Fund Brats contribute to society? They've just gotten work for people that probably need it and the hotel a free refurb. The only other outlet that I know of that SS's and TFB's contribtue to society is through the black market and drug purchases, have you been to one of their parties! I disagree; it's UM-related and for the offseason it's fine. There are two threads on it.
The thing I find unproductive are those going "see this is why I don't join a frat" or "I'm sure their daddies will take care of it."
On the latter: we just got done eviscerating Dave Brandon for a similar comment.
On the former: I was in a fraternity in college. And my dad was in this frat--SAMmies--at MSU (which didn't have a chapter at UM when I was there). A fraternity is like any other organization--football team, Daily, whatever--by joining it you accept that your actions will reflect on the organization. If this was a football team who'd trashed a bowl hotel (which isn't unheard of) people will denigrate that program, that school, and football teams in general, although the more you generalize obviously the further you get from correct.
Is THIS frat full of douches? I mean, it's obvious they have a contingent. You can't create that kind of destruction without a surprising disregard of other people. If that was my hotel I'd absolutely pursue criminal charges.
But the only thing it says about others in their fraternity is they've chosen to associate with these douchenozzles. As for the thousand-odd members of fraternities at Michigan and million-odd across the country who never chose to hang with said douchenozzles, it doesn't really say anything except they joined a type of organization that some douchenozzles joined.
The perpetrators were Americans too, and given the specific fraternity, probably of my religion. They root for Michigan sports. Perhaps one or two were in the room when I spoke at Hillel last November, and three or four pass along this blog. Having things in common with me doesn't make them less douchnozzles to me, and doesn't make me a douchenozzle for those associations.

The resort needs to sue these idiots. They are in college. They are adults, responsible for what they do.
Local law enforcement also needs to look into what sort of vandalism charges can be filed.
Michigan should take a serious look into what they can do against these frats.
Michigan Men do not do things like this.
