Four star OT Trevor Keegan trending Blue
Highly rated tackle prospect from Illinois picked up another couple of UM Crystal Balls today.
He already had BrAce and Lorenz... Wiltfong still has the bucks but the trend is Blue.
Cannot find tape from his junior year but the offer list is elite.
add him and the OL class is solid - plus potentially Harrod
I would be very happy
I don't think Harrod is a "take" anymore.
I don't subscribe to the pay sites but thought I heard something like "He had a bad spring" on "the Notorious BIG" podcast with Wiltfong and Trieu a few weeks back. Not sure exactly what that means but since that time I noticed that Sam Webb has not mentioned his name.
IF we get Keegan and still want to take another I would suspect it would be held for a 5-star type like the kid from Kwity Paye's school out east.
(No edit function anymore?)
To add to the above - On last week's Podcast Wiltfong noted re: Keeegan that he had put in his OSU Crystal Ball a while ago and although he has heard that Michigan is trending, he was not going to change it until he had more solid info.
It's encouraging to see an OSU writer put in a CB for Michigan
I like his twitter handle........."Bigtrevk".
Would they take both Keegan and Harrod?
Absolutely.
Not absolutely. They're at 5 right now. Keegan would make it 6. That would seemingly make us full on OL, especially given the fact that we want a couple other DL as well. TK's commitment would give us:
1 True OT: Keegan
3 OT/OG Swing Guys: Jones, Stewart, Barnhart
2 True Interior Guys: Carpenter and Rumler
I could see us taking 7 with only taking 2 (or 1 if Hayes stays at TE) in 2018
Hayes will not stay at TE, but even 6 would give us 8 in the last two cycles. With very little attrition expected in the next year, 6 this cycle would be sufficient. The staff could take 7, but Harrod is announcing on July 28th, before Keegan, and I think that will be too soon for the staff for their projection of the remaining spots (i.e. I don't think he will be a take that day).
We currently have 6 interior OL and 9 OTs. If you project that Newsome can't come back and one other OT transfers, then you're at 6 and 7. JBB graduates, but I doubt anyone else goes pro, so we will be at 6 and 6 when the 2019 class arrives. A six-man OL class this year would bring those numbers to 10 and 8 or 9.5 and 8.5, theoretically. That's solid OL depth.
Bredeson (at end of year) has been a starter for 3 years, since true freshman season. Onwenu is physically a beast. With warinner now, and expected good season, i think it's realistic to expect 1 of those 2 to leave. I would expect bredeson to have all big 10 season. I think he has huge season. I think he goes early.
Hayes will be a TE for about one day. Then they will say head over to the OL when you belong. They guy is an OT all the way and could become a very good one at that.
Seven is a lot. If they add Keegan and another elite guy I think it's more likely we see some shuffling, whether driven by Michigan or by a guy who sees more opportunity in a smaller class.
It's tough to bring in an OL class that big unless the scholarship numbers support a full restocking of the cupboards, which isn't really where Michigan is. Six guys make 18 OL scholarships next year before medical/attrition by my count even after the presumed transfer leaves.
Ulizio is that presumed transfer?
I feel like it's a no brainer. Take top OL talent when they want to come. I think if you did take him, someone may jump ship by the end of the cycle, but i can't see them saying no thanks if he wants to come.
Why do you consider him more of a true OT than Jones (who everyone else I've heard from, considers him a true OT) Stewart or Barnhart? They all seem to be the same size, and from the tape I've watched they all seem to be very similar, except Barnhart, because of the system he plays in.
I think under normal circumstances, with years of proper OL recruitment and development, maybe you take only one. But I think in our current situation, and with our struggles on the edge, you make room for 2 top OT talents if they want in.
Oline is looking really nice now. Don't count out Jailen Mayfield this fall to compete for the starting LT spot. He is already built college football ready
yeah - I was surprised to hear that - I figured once we built up depth freshman would have a hard time cracking the starting 5
I'll eat 15 lemons if a true freshman, who won't even be joining the team until Fall, starts at LT against ND.
Eating lemons is delicious, 15 might be too many though.
Jaylen Mayfield will not be starting in the Notre Dame game.
All of our current OTs have the build but as we all know, that's only part of the equation. He has to be able to grasp the playbook, know where to be and what to do.
Hi, Mr. Mayfield. Welcome to MgoBlog.
Top tackle prospect left on the board for sure. Warinner has been huge here. Would be a stellar OL haul if he was the closing commit. Believe he wants to decide this summer.
Yes, Ed Warinner. He has an excellent history. An awesome affect he is having on OL recruiting. I hope he gets a raise and stays 10 years. One can hope anyway.
Here's a highlight video. It wasn't hard to find. He has a YouTube Channel.

Here's a short interview of Trevor Keegan by Kevin Goheen of Land of 10--Michigan:

It would be great to see this guy on the same O Line as Nolan Rumler!
If I find it ironic that this wasn’t posted 2 days ago when the first CB came in, but off course 1 bad one for Lance Dixon and certain people bring it to the board as quickly as possible.
Not all news has to be negative.
yeah - bluey / maizen only posts bad news
He has VERY impressive offer sheet: https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Trevor-Keegan-91238/RecruitInterests
No one has complained about his 5.52 40 time yet. Can I call it a good day at MGoBlog?
God Bless Ed Warinner! Look at the affect he's having on O Line recruiting.
40 time isn't a tell for how good an O lineman is
No, but it does show that he has a lot of speed and athleticism for his size which doesnt hurt.
Yup. Remeber Cesar Ruiz attempting to chase down Karan Higdon vs Minnesota last year? That guy has some serious wheels.
I am not big on 40 times for O Lineman myself. His offer sheet shows me a whole bunch of great football programs aren't either. Sure, I'd want some fast ones in my 2 deep. And I'd have some. But for the longest distances an O Lineman would run, like 15 yards, or less, on a pull, I'd rather he get there 0.1 second later and blow out the DE, LB, or safety he has to block, than get there 0.1 second sooner and the hole is still clogged.
And I want to see D Lineman knocked off the ball on 3rd or 4th and short, in a straight ahead play, more than I want a sub 5 40 time. :-)
But yeah, I wish his 40 time was sub 5. But I'm happy anyway about the affect Ed Warinner being hired is having.
Wait... I thought I read somewhere that our recruiting was awful and would always be awful?... I’m so confused now.
Keegan is a solid prospect. Hope he joins the class, and none of the others flip. But you know, it's not over til it's over.
Any chance this is another Billy price troll job?
I can't put any stock in this thread until Bluey chimes in.
Fuck yeah. I'll take all the OLine we can get.
