Four star OT Trevor Keegan trending Blue

Submitted by jbibiza on

Highly rated tackle prospect from Illinois picked up another couple of UM Crystal Balls today.
He already had BrAce and Lorenz... Wiltfong still has the bucks but the trend is Blue.
Cannot find tape from his junior year but the offer list is elite.

I don't think Harrod is a "take" anymore.

I don't subscribe to the pay sites but thought I heard something like "He had a bad spring" on "the Notorious BIG" podcast with Wiltfong and Trieu a few weeks back.  Not sure exactly what that means but since that time I noticed that Sam Webb has not mentioned his name.

IF we get Keegan and still want to take another I would suspect it would be held for a 5-star type like the kid from Kwity Paye's school out east.

To add to the above - On last week's Podcast Wiltfong noted re: Keeegan that he had put in his OSU Crystal Ball a while ago and although he has heard that Michigan is trending, he was not going to change it until he had more solid info.

Not absolutely. They're at 5 right now. Keegan would make it 6. That would seemingly make us full on OL, especially given the fact that we want a couple other DL as well. TK's commitment would give us:

1 True OT: Keegan

3 OT/OG Swing Guys: Jones, Stewart, Barnhart

2 True Interior Guys: Carpenter and Rumler

Hayes will not stay at TE, but even 6 would give us 8 in the last two cycles. With very little attrition expected in the next year, 6 this cycle would be sufficient. The staff could take 7, but Harrod is announcing on July 28th, before Keegan, and I think that will be too soon for the staff for their projection of the remaining spots (i.e. I don't think he will be a take that day).

We currently have 6 interior OL and 9 OTs. If you project that Newsome can't come back and one other OT transfers, then you're at 6 and 7. JBB graduates, but I doubt anyone else goes pro, so we will be at 6 and 6 when the 2019 class arrives. A six-man OL class this year would bring those numbers to 10 and 8 or 9.5 and 8.5, theoretically. That's solid OL depth.

Bredeson (at end of year) has been a starter for 3 years,  since true freshman season. Onwenu is physically a beast. With warinner now,  and expected good season,  i think it's realistic to expect 1 of those 2 to leave. I would expect bredeson to have all big 10 season. I think he has huge season. I think he goes early.

Seven is a lot. If they add Keegan and another elite guy I think it's more likely we see some shuffling, whether driven by Michigan or by a guy who sees more opportunity in a smaller class.

It's tough to bring in an OL class that big unless the scholarship numbers support a full restocking of the cupboards, which isn't really where Michigan is. Six guys make 18 OL scholarships next year before medical/attrition by my count even after the presumed transfer leaves.

I think under normal circumstances, with years of proper OL recruitment and development, maybe you take only one. But I think in our current situation, and with our struggles on the edge, you make room for 2 top OT talents if they want in.

Oline is looking really nice now. Don't count out Jailen Mayfield this fall to compete for the starting LT spot. He is already built college football ready

Top tackle prospect left on the board for sure. Warinner has been huge here. Would be a stellar OL haul if he was the closing commit. Believe he wants to decide this summer.

If I find it ironic that this wasn’t posted 2 days ago when the first CB came in, but off course 1 bad one for Lance Dixon and certain people bring it to the board as quickly as possible.

Not all news has to be negative.

I am not big on 40 times for O Lineman myself. His offer sheet shows me a whole bunch of great football programs aren't either. Sure, I'd want some fast ones in my 2 deep. And I'd have some. But for the longest distances an O Lineman would run, like 15 yards, or less, on a pull, I'd rather he get there 0.1 second later and blow out the DE, LB, or safety he has to block, than get there 0.1 second sooner and the hole is still clogged.

And I want to see D Lineman knocked off the ball on 3rd or 4th and short, in a straight ahead play, more than I want a sub 5 40 time. :-)

But yeah, I wish his 40 time was sub 5. But I'm happy anyway about the affect Ed Warinner being hired is having.
