Four more guilty pleas from Sparty nerd beatdown
Four more current or former Michigan State football players have pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and conspiracy in connection with a Nov. 22 incident at a campus residence hall.
Wide receiver Fred Smith and offensive lineman J'Michael Deane, who are still on the team, and former players Roderick Jenrette and Jamiihr Williams entered their pleas as part of agreements that should lighten their sentences.

if only this had happened during the off season State would basically be a lock for bringing the Fulmer Cup home.

between the end of the regular season and the bowl game, wouldn't that count? I have to consult my Fulmer Cup rulebook for this one.

This is interesting from the Detroit News piece. Why even reinstate them if they can't participate? Maybe trying to put the story to rest?
Smith was one of eight players MSU suspended for the Alamo Bowl, then supposedly reinstated to the team Jan. 13.
On Thursday, however, Smith said all players involved with the fight -- charged or not -- haven't yet been able to work out at MSU's training facility or attend team meetings.
That strays from comments Dantonio made Jan. 13, telling reporters: "They are on the team right now."
"(Dantonio) hasn't told (the players involved in the fight) much about our futures," said Smith, who played at Detroit Southeastern. "He just told us to keep our heads up and deal with the situation like the young men we are."

I was under the impression, that they were allowed 1 hour of PT per day.

hmmm.
Anyone else sense some irony in that statement?

Sparty doesn't generate as many clicks. The Freep has bigger Dorsey's to fry.

Just for S & G, I checked with the Freep website to see if they had noted this little bit of news. Not yet.... Why am I not surprised.
Had it been us, you can bet it would be emblazoned on page 1 in 200 point type. Bastards.

Beatdown? According to the Freep, this was simply a fight. A very fair one.
February 12th, 2010 at 2:40 PM ^
A "fight" sounds much too bad. I believe at one point, the Free Press referred to the attack as "a fracas". Ah...a mere fracas...
February 12th, 2010 at 5:14 PM ^
A run of the mill donnybrook? Perhaps a skirmish?
February 12th, 2010 at 5:19 PM ^
I'd go with "tomfoolery."
February 12th, 2010 at 5:34 PM ^
How about "high jinks"?

Just a small kerfuffle.

Shenanigans...complete with the goat.

Is there any way that the Freep can blame the MSU Nerd Beatdown on RR? Is it possible that his mere presence in the state of Michigan has brought down the family values of every team in the state?
February 12th, 2010 at 2:46 PM ^
The imagination is a wonderful thing. In this case, it will be the Freep's downfall, along with that whole lack of advertising revenue thing slowly suffocating newspapers.
