Former UM safety Stevie Brown out for season

Submitted by Real Tackles Wear 77 on
Unfortunately it seems Stevie Brown has torn his ACL and will miss the season. He came out of nowhere, even to those who followed him at Michigan, with 7 or 8 picks last yr. Here's to a quick recovery and we'll see you back at full strength next season Stevie.

This. I don't care, but if a safety is tearing it up in the league as a 6th -7th round pick, and is one of the brightest young players on the Giants' defense it tells me that Ron English and Greg Robinson couldn't outcoach a goddamn stuffed animal

Not thread worthy but anyone see that high school coach hit his QB in the head on the sideline?, (game is on ESPN) That coach needs his ass beat. What a chump.

Here's a brief write-up from Gregg Rosenthal at NFL.com (LINK).

According to this, it happened on an interception of a Geno Smith pass, the second one Smith had thrown in the first quarter in the Giants' loss to the Jets.

Hopefully, Stevie's recovery is full and speedy.

So glad the NFL's crackdown on head injuries has lead to open season on knees. Ask any player and they would trade 100 shots to the head over 1 to the knee.

""They are concerned about long-term concussions, but immediately they're not concerned about your knees or your ankles or anything like that. I think that should be an issue..." -Brian Urlacher

Players historically haven't been great on judging the impact of head injuries. That and no one is crucifying the NFL for people's career's ending due to leg injuries. But, in his defense, I bet the list of people who lost their ability to make a livlihood due to knee and ankle injuries is a lot longer than the list of people with severe head trauma damage.

Horrible news. The guy has worked his ass off to get to a level most never imagined. Here's hope for a speedy recovery and continued success in the future. Heal fast Stevie.

...he was playing on a one year restricted free agent tender and would have been in line for a nice contract extension from the G-men or in unrestricted free agency after this year.

He is only making around $2M (yeah, only but who knows what his shelf life is) this year so this could cost him dearly.

Here's hoping for a strong recovery and an awesome 2014 season that finally leads to that big pay day.

As a Giants fan this is a gut punch. Will Hill is the backup and he's suspended for the first 4 weeks. We'll either have to use Tyler Sash or see if Terrell Thomas can play safety. God I hate preseason football.

Training camp injuries are the worst!  You work all off-season and then it's snatched away before you get to play a single down... and all you have to look forward to is a long rehab that will hopefully allow you to play in a year.  Pre-season games are absolutely useless and should be eliminated altogether or cut down to a max of two.

Best of luck to Stevie in his recovery!
