Fluff piece on Solomon/Gary

Submitted by Whole Milk on

A fluff piece by Baumgardner was posted today on the relationship between Solomon and Gary. Interesting perspective on their relationship and how Gary has taken Solomon under his wings and are pushing him to not only get his body ready, but be ready with his assignments.

Interesting notes:

-  Solomon is currently 300, wants to play this season at 285-290

-  Gary confirms (as much as one player can) what we have all thought in that the defense will be relying on Solomon, Hudson, and Luiji this season.

-   Solomon throws shade at the South saying that it is a "load of crap" that people expected him to stay and play in the SEC because he was from the south. Loves what Michigan has to offer and looks forward to playing with his "brothers"

Fuck the SEC, and show them what they're missing. Seems like a really good kid to acknowledge that football is a privilege and you need to rely on academics as well for his future.

The SEC is a bunch of soft, overrated, and inconsistent teams.  Other than alabama they havent been any good since 2010, but because of one team people just gush over the damn confrence.  Had michigan been in the SEC east they would have gone undefeated to the SEC title game.  Better yet you are now seeing that southern prospects (Like Soloman) are deciding to go elsewhere, because they know that Auburn, LSU, Georgia, and Florida are all shells of their former selfs.  Im glad Soloman told the that bum confrence and their cheating boosters to screw off!

I like Aubrey, gonna be a hell of a player. I think the incident that was caught on film was somewhat taken out of context and more of a kid joking with certain friends in a way he wouldn't joke with others. He obviously loves Michigan a great deal.

We're very fortunate to have so many of our talented players also be very smart young men and solid leaders. Jabrill was this way and it seems that Rashan is the same way (if not even more so at a younger age). Mo, Wilt, Evans, DPJ, the list goes on. Upper and under-classmen alike, you have to appreciate the general character that Harbaugh and the staff recruit.

I agree with you. I thought it was tongue in cheek with Aubrey after he committed. I said something similar once in the marines that my commanding officer overheard and got in a lot of trouble for it. Since things are understandable with the right context. I know, "Cool story bro."

I'm hoping he shows out from day 1 against Florida.

Sure we get caught up in numbers. These days it seems like if you aren't 300+ on the o line or interior d line then you are playing at a percieved disadvantage. I don't think that 5 pounds, of who knows what kind of weight, is going to drastically shift the ability for a player to perform. Perhaps five less pounds of fat would allow for a player to play with more quickness and give him more endurance so that there is a net gain over the lack of caulk weight (best way I could figure to describe gap plugging). This is especially true for true freshmen.

it would be a different story if he was to get at/below 275 though. Then caulk weight would definetly be worth the quickness and endurance.

Yeah I would actually play Hudson at the Nose, based on what we know of the two. Hudson is massive and strong as hell. He can play at 310 in college. Aubrey might like to stay at a leaner 290 and could be a hell of a 3T. If Dwumfour can stay healthy this year he can play both positions as well, although he will like play 3T mainly.
