lost a lot of respect for Schefter through this process. He's a U-M alum and is so clueless to whats going on. Makes me think he never reads mgoblog :-)

"Insider" type reporters are only as good as their sources. Schefter's are among the best when reporting on internal NFL matters, but clearly they were caught in an NFL echo chamber when Harbaugh was being courted outside of the league.

I get that he's been wrong in this search and that he's been behind other reporters as to It's Happening, but don't forget that when the guy goes on TV from his office there's always a little winged helmet on the shelf behind him.

Harbaugh is the real worldwide leader in sports.

Harbaugh does the top one play countdown and it's usually a clip of him smacking Jimmy Schwartz's mother.

Chris Berman has been propped up by Bennies and some extra strength toothpicks.

Ergo, Harbaugh > ESPN.

Its really hard to believe how arrogant ESPN is.  They don't want to admit they were last to the party.  When you have the amount of people with such obvious connections confirmign that it is done ESPN is just making them self look awful by keeping up with this charade.

When you have one of Harbaugh's long time friends and a very well respected sports reporter stating that it is done it is extremely unprofessional for ESPN to continue to ignore the story.

Wait a second here.  Are you talking about Harbaugh to Michigan or the SEC as the greatest single conference in the history of conferences and their re-invention of the game of football?

They basically made a front page story out of Schefter's tweet.  I really can't remember if there ever was any integrity or investigative skill at ESPN back in the day, but now it is nothing more then sensationalized re-hashing of sporting events and news.  They have nothing to offer when it comes to actual news stories and their "reporters" are ill equipped and trained to handle breaking news - they just don't have any practice at it.

Didn't basically the same thing happen with Mantei Teo?  Didn't ESPN refuse to report and acknowledge sources outside of their own?  I get needing to verify sources and not just recycling the reporting of others if you can't independently verify - but the bigger problem seems that they aren't getting any information of their own.  Well except for Wiley and they seem to be ignoring him.

just got an ESPN alert that UM officials are in SF to meet with Harbaugh as soon as possible. Like really lol. this has been reported since like Thursday/Friday lol. Also Schefter is reporting that at source has told him there is no agreement in place

Yeah, that thread first appeared late Thursday over here, and I can't remember who the source was on it, but it was followed up and it was pretty clear by Friday morning that Michigan was already out there and setting up to have the formal discussion and - as it seems to have unfolded - finalize various details ahead of an actual signing. If other outlets are getting scooped by ESPN like this, either they are vulnerable organization somewhere or they really are this beholden to the NFL.

This is pretty out there but maybe Schefter is taking one for the team to create one last smoke screen that the deal is not done? If it is not, "officially" out there in the media today then Harbaugh can focus on the game today and pass on any questions about it. ESPN kind of owed us one from last time, so maybe?
