ESPN Bowl Projections for UM

Submitted by hennedance on
ESPN's Mark Schlabach and Bruce Feldman made complete bowl projections for next year. They both have Michigan bowling, with Schlabach seeing us playing North Carolina in the Champs Sports Bowl and Feldman so intelligently pitting us against Cincinnati in the PapaJohns.com bowl (which is a Big East vs. a SEC matchup). I think that a 4th place finish in the Big Ten and an Alamo/Champs Sports Bowl berth is completely reasonable. I am not as ball-sy as Feldman and do not project us switching to the SEC before season's end and playing in the PapaJohns.com Bowl. that would be epic solely for the reason that I can see them over the hoilday break. If Michigan goes to the insight bowl i pledge to drink a pint of everclear and unleash war cries (similar to those of the babarian in the opening scene of gladiator) at opposing fans.

It doesn't have to be an SEC team. If Michigan has , let's say a 7-5 reord and the only SEC teams left are 7-5 or 6-6, it can be Michigan. It works even more that way if the SEC champ plays for the National title. Then the 2nd place team will go to the Sugar bowl and make it easier for a PapaJohns bowl to pick a different conference, because the #? team in the SEC they were suppose to get is at a higher bowl. So it is possible. I hope this makes sense. Here is the Explanation In 2008 and 2009, the bowl will feature the Southeastern Conference's ninth bowl-eligible team and a team from the Big East Conference.[3] Should either of these conferences not fulfill their bowl commitments, a team from the Sun Belt Conference will take their place, provided it is bowl eligible.[4] So if the 9th or 10th if SEC plays for said NC, then it's the Sunbelt, after that free game.

Was going to mention this, but very glad to see someone else do it. Last year, all of that played out and then some. Not enough SEC teams were bowl eligible (Auburn, Miss St, Arky and Tenn failed). But, thanks to the Big 10 not qualifying enough (you know, which teams didnt qualify isnt really the issue here. Right?) somehow the Motor City Bowl grabbed Fla Atlantic (the 2nd SBC team after champ Troy), allowing the Pape J Bowl to draft their second team. It ended being Rutgers (BE) playing NC State (ACC). And, if anyone remembers my Bowl Chronicles series from last year, the matchup led the way to a very magical night. So, I dont blame the writer there. But, to avoid confusion, they ought to give notations when they go off grid like that.

If we would go to the PapaJohn's bowl I hope that the Big East opponent would be WVU. I think that would be the bowl matchup of the year

If you can handle a pound of cheese or that garlic sauce that gives people the runs then I guess it's ok. Personally, I prefer the local pizza places but if we're talking big chains, I'd gladly overpay for Pizza Hut.

I thought that since we beat Florida and the messiah at QB in the Cap 1 bowl that the SEC allowed Michigan to be an honorary member for bowl games...no?
