With a need for a QB in this class I say it's always worth a look to see if there would be any interest from Ashford but Harbaugh would have to want to pursue the young man first.

EDIT: He's 6'2" 204 lbs., and is quite good at 2 sports as he's a UA All-American Baseball Player so he's got to be a great athlete. We're good at baseball again now so maybe he'd be interested.

He was originally thought to be a heavy Auburn lean before unexpectedly committing to Ole Miss. Wherever he goes he also wants to play baseball.

He's a UA All-American in baseball too.  He didn't have an offer reported from Alabama, but maybe Gattis has some rapport with him.  His play style could match our offensive philosophy, and at least we have a strong baseball program to sweeten the deal.  I didn't see a single offer from north of the Mason-Dixon though.  Hard to see that changing.

I like this kid. I don't know if he's an absolute top-tier guy, but he reminds me of J.T. Barrett.

I don't know of any relationship with Michigan at all, so I don't think anything is brewing. But from a talent standpoint, I certainly wouldn't mind if Michigan went after him.

I like him too reminds me a little bit of Marquise Williams and JT Barrett kind of a different combination. I know because he was recruited to Rich rods offense some people might think he's anathema... But there been some pretty capable passers come out of that offense he might be worth a shot better than nothing for sure and he's a good athlete. I'd be happy to add him!

The southern drawl and Appalachian hillbilly are distinct dialects. As a midwesterner, I get annoyed when my California relatives accuse me of speaking with a "southern accent," when my "accent" is neither southern nor Appalachian.

It's crazy how little Americans know about other Americans.

I actually just looked through the recruiting classes of all teams that had a HC change. Not much is out there.

That Anthony Romphf kid is at FAU and he had some real Michigan interest. If he can play another position it may be worth taking him as a QB that can move to WR or CB. I just don't know enough about the kid other than he's tiny for a QB.

Maybe Magnus can provide a scouting report. He's listed as a dual threat who runs a 4.5.

Man, a long way from the days when we picked whatever QB we wanted.  Chad Henne - top recurit from another state - come on down.  Now....looking for scraps from Ole Miss (again).  Things sure have changed.

Qb commits under JH have been rated 7th (McNamara), 9th (Milton), 5th (McCaffrey) and 6th (Peters). And we have the 4th ranked QB that is a 5* in 2021. McCarthy, Peters, McCaffrey and McNamara were all the first or second ranked recruit in their states. Milton was 35th in his state (Florida, so still a very good recruit), but the top rated Qb in his state. We also got Patterson to transfer, and he was a top 10 recruit overall and the top Qb in his class.

Under Carr, we had Matt Gutierrez (5th), Richard (7th), Henne (3rd), Forcer (9th dual threat Qb), Cone (30th), and Mallet (2nd). So not really all that different under JH. Not sure where you’re getting this idea that we got any Qb we wanted. Henne wasn’t even the top rated Qb in his state.

I was gonna comment Tate Forcier was definitely a Rich Rod guy, but then I remembered Jason was under Carr.

Honestly, a QB in this class would be great, since you always want to have depth but if there is one year we can drop a guy, its the one with McCarthy incoming. If he stays steady in the rankings, he'll be the best ranked QB we've maybe ever gotten and the type that could push for Freshman minutes ala Trevor Lawrence, bridging the McCaffery or Milton gap.

Not saying he's guaranteed to be a freshman starter, but it's not the worst backup plan.

There’s a significant chance that the loser of the McCaffrey-Milton battle transfers. Not saying it’s likely but it’s absolutely a possibility. In which case, the winner and McNamara would be the only scholarship QBs on the roster if we don’t take one in the 2020 class. Recipe for disaster

It's definitely rough for 2020, but I'm not sure if any of the 2020 guys on left on the board would improve the immediate situation that much.

Let's say JD Johnson was ready to go. If we're playing him in his freshman year, things have already gone completely haywire. Most freshman QBs are go through growing pains, especially when they're not 5 stars or high 4 stars.

I think missing out on 2020 would affect more of the years moving forward: Let's say McCaffery wins out next year and Milton goes.

2020: RS JR McCaffery, RS FR McNamara, FR <insert 2020 guy>

2021: RS SR McCaffery, RS SO McNamara, RS FR <insert 2020 guy>, FR McCarthy

2022: RS JR McNamara, RS SO <insert 2020 guy>, RS FR McCarthy

In this scenario, 2022 is the first year the 2020 guy will really have a shot at playing, barring McCaffery and McNamara go down, which seems unlikely. It's possible that between a groomed McNamara and a redshirted McCarthy that the 2020 guy goes, ala Milton in this scenario. Of course, it's possible McNamara gets cold feet or doesn't work out, in which case the 2020 guy becomes more important in 2021, but that's tough to project regardless. Regardless, if the hype is real, it's very possible that McCarthy has the 2020 guy beat in 2022 or even 2021.

Of course, I'd would love to take a 2020 guy, it's better than not having one for just in case depth reasons.  I just think that if it's Villari or someone at that level, they're gonna need to break out fast if McCarthy is as good as advertised.

It doesn’t matter whether we think they’d actually play or not. Hard to project the future, which is why you take a Qb on every class. A scholarship QB is going to be better than a walk on. Not gonna help us against the Penn States and Wisconsin. But I could be the difference against a Purdue or Maryland.

you take a QBs in every class. The future will sort itself out. But because we took a Qb in every class, we are not caught with our pants down

He's one looking into but I'm going copy and paste a post I made in the "New 2020 QB Prospect Visiting This Weekend Thread" (about Dan Villari).

-----

I simply don't understand why we won't offer Jayden de Laura from St. Louis High School in Honolulu, Hawaii.
- He comes from a HS which has produced Marcus Mariota and Tua Tagovailoa.
- He is basically putting up significantly better numbers than senior Mariota did in HS.
- He's a great fit for our new offense. And the eye test confirms it upon closer inspection. (His HS runs some nice stuff.)
- And we have one of Jayden de Laura's WR teammates (Roman Wilson) committed!

I just don't get it.

I know he's committed to WSU. However, OSU offered him recently and that seems to have changed his thinking...

OSU won't take both CJ Stroud and Jayden de Laura since they already have 1 highly ranked QB from Arizona committed.

So it's an either/or scenario.

There's an opportunity for us to swoop in. While some pepole will see it as "taking OSU's scraps" because they have inferiority complex, I advise them to watch JdL's senior tape. He has improved massively (like a late bloomer) and taken his game to another tier. I'm confident JdL will be one of those athletic players who massively outperforms his high 3 star ranking.

Isn't it interesting how the *athletic* 3 stars play above their HS ranking?
