Enos bailed on Michigan Appreciation Thread

Submitted by Blue-Ray on August 24th, 2019 at 11:16 PM

Enos would have been Thanos to the program. Miami's offense was the disfunctional combination of all of the ugliest offenses I've ever seen. Looked like a Middle School team.

I was so hoping that QB had to come out for a while at the end to see if Tathan got a shot. At least that would've made it worth the watch. Would have actually made sense with their turnstile-like tackles.

So thankful we don't start off with an evenly matched opponent, so our offense can gain confidence to start the season. That was a glimpse at how bad things can actually get and very well could have been. So ready for next week. Go Blue!

I am also glad Enos only came to Ann Arbor for a sandwich but the All-PI offense damn near worked!

The idea Tathan would have made the game interesting assumes he has any ability to play QB at the P5 level. I would not make that assumption.

The thing I appreciated most watching that game was how undisciplined the Florida Gators are. They may fix it later in the season, but knowing those guys may self destruct at any time this season filled my heart with joy. Mullen is a bigger douche than Enos IMO. I can see Florida will be the same mess they were after Urban left. That guy called the game like he was using the Penn St playbook. He made Franklin proud.

Mullen inherited enough talent to be successful at Florida; even at their worst they recruit like a top-15 team.  And in his two years at Florida he's been underwhelming on the recruiting trail; even his top-10 class from 2019 has lost 5(!) high-ranked guys since they signed.  If anything, I could see him going the RR route where he doesn't recruit as well as you'd expect for the school and UF continues plodding along as an okay SEC power that sometimes pulls an upset or two but is clearly a step behind the top teams in the conference.

Mullen may be a great coach, but he comes across as a bit of an asshole and watching him struggle makes me happy.

Yes Miami's first drive was actually perfect.  It played to the strengths of their offense (which aren't many) and Enos did his best to hide their weaknesses (quick throws that don't allow the D line time to get pressure, easy reads for the young QB, making it so he didn't have to think).  Unfortunately the execution was lacking.  Williams would stand in the pocket too long looking for deep shots instead of throwing to his checkdown and getting the ball out fast because his tackles are some of the worst I've seen since... well last year against Notre Dame.  (sorry)

Those 10 sacks were on the O-Line and QB both, not just one or the other.

Also Enos would have been an upgrade over Pep.  Maybe not as big as Gattis but an upgrade nonetheless.

I think this game sort of highlights that Florida may be a bit overrated moreso than Miami's offense (which didn't do a ton all night) was some revelation.  Miami's defense played really well and kept the Canes in it; their offense was as much Florida messing up tackling or multiple PIs than a coherent gameplan.  They at least had the excuse of a first-year QB and RB, but even with struggles along the line and QB issues the gameplan felt out of step with their available talent.  Lots of runs up the middle getting crushed for minimal gain.

That Williams kid might be the worst QB I have seen.  100% honest hawt take, but a hawt take nonetheless.

Hoo boy Florida fans have a lot to worry about.  That team is a pretty bad "good" team.

And to the OP's point.  Enos is better where he is.  Scumbag coach for a scumbag program.  It seems like Diaz is a decent enough guy, but that performance was shocking.  One could make the case that he should get the Kiffin treatment and they start over without wasting any more time.  75% honest hawt take there, for those keeping score.

The game was painful to watch.  People really don't appreciate how much a good offense line can make everyone else better... That QB was sacked 10 times!!! You don't deserve to win a game with that many sacks.

Hope fully our o line will be a strength for the team.

Fuck OSU.

I would've rather seen Miami win because F the SEC and F UF.  They are not #8 and will get exposed over the course of the season.  Enos is a don't care situation, for me anyway.

Oh man I totally agree with this. I remember when we were trying to talk ourselves into him and it didn't feel good. "Pro Style" "Top 10 Rushing Offenses" (4 years earlier). And then he leaves for Bama and it felt like...oohhhhh shit, we needed him!

Classic overreaction. That offense tonight was a disaster. 10 sacks. The two minute drill at the end didn't have a single successful play except for those penalties.

That game has to make you appreciate Harbaugh. We have never looked that sloppy. Miami and Florida looked ridiculous.

Terrible OL.

QB played like a RSFR making his first start against a savage DL.

Tathan’s sole run as QB resulted in -1 yards.

His mop up reps for OSU had a couple good moments but every rep he had against the 1’s last year were, to borrow his phrase, “ass”

Their 1st drive was really well scripted to counter Florida's pass rush (which ended with 10 sacks). And they started a RS Freshman at QB. Also a true Freshman LT and RS Freshman RT. Even so, Williams was in position to succeed multiple times throughout the game.

OP's take is not good.

What's your assessment of the 4th quarter offense?

I'm not touting Tathan or believe he's a viable QB or anything.  just wanted Florida to lose a lot more than I wanted him to not perform well.

In an ugly backyard, sandlot game like that,  the skills he actually does have would've fit better when the plays inevitably broke down.

I mean honestly I wanted to see Martell at QB just to see how he'd do. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't have enjoyed seeing him run for his life lol. I also did want to see Florida lose. But as far as Miami's O i would blame the poor performance more on the RS FR QB and Freshman tackles than I would the offensive gameplan or play calls.

To your point, the fact that Martell couldn't beat out that QB seems pretty telling lol

You have to game plan for the players you have though. Teach the QB to hit his check down if there even was one on most plays.

They ran approximately 7 screens in the last 4 mins of the game. I think I saw 3 in a row on one series. They don't work if the DE are already getting to the QB before he can even grip the ball good.

Gotta run more plays to get the ball out of his hands quicker. Ten (10) sacks.

Because having months to script a scoring drive resulted in, pretends to check notes, a FG.

I didn’t find their play calling inspiring, at all. I don’t care and didn’t remember Enos was their OC. Their defense kept them in the game. So many short fields and Miami couldn’t score a TD. Even after a first down and momentum with the personal foul on the FG fake, there was nothing there to see Enos can outsmart an aggressive D for more than that opening drive.
