The Enlightened Spartan's Immaturity
Anyone else been over to the Enlightened Spartan blog or catch his douchebaggery on the liveblogs last night? It's really amazing that a prominent MSU blogger can act like such a two year old, calling Michigan scUM and writing childish statements in all caps. It's a little disappointing because he perfectly fits all of the MSU stereotypes. If I were a Spartan, I would be embarrassed. Imagine if Brian were on the MSU liveblogs during one of the many beatdowns over State in football, saying things like "OMG SPARTY BLOWS AHAHAHAHHAHA". You expect a little more from someone who runs a frequently updated blog.
Really makes you glad that the Michigan blogosphere is so high quality. Thanks to Mgoblog, VB, Michigan Sports Center, UMHoops, and all the others for making M's online presence one of the most intelligent and analytic among all universities.

Now you know why he's never been added to Brian's list of Big Ten Blogs over on the sidebar.

the WLA?
JK JK JK LOLOLOLOLOLZZZZZ.
Seriously though, have you?

The WLA can be dicks at times, but at least their humor is intelligent, and they're usually entirely reasonable in their analysis of sports & arguments in general. The fact that they're condescending doesn't change the fact that they're frequently right.

I guess that seemed harsh. I was just commenting on how it is normal to see the WLA hijack a blog every once in a while. I was not commenting that it isn't funny as hell when it happens, because it is.

Why is it that we should expect someone who runs a "frequently updated blog" to be anything at all? Can't anybody start and run a blog, douche-bag or not? In fact, it surprises me sometimes that blogs are LESS douchy than I'd expect given the ease of access.
I agree with you, however, that the UM blogs are, for the most part, pretty well done (especially MGoBlog).

It's easy to start and run a blog. It's difficult to get other people to read it and determine that it's worthy of regular visits. It's sort of an indictment against the Michigan State fanbase that he's become so popular with them while being mocked by everybody else.

It's not that he shouldn't be able to do whatever he wants, it's just that he makes himself look like an asshole, and since he runs a blog, that makes MSU look like a bunch of assholes as well (which I don't think they are). To some extent, these blogs represent the university. Mgoblog is probably among the 5 most popular sources for Michigan sports media, blog or not. Thus, if Brian is a jerk, it makes us all look like jerks. I think bloggers should hold themselves to a higher standard.

so to speak.

I hate this guy. Stick to Spartan Weblog.
February 11th, 2009 at 11:33 AM ^
Yeah, Spartan Weblog is definitely a superior option. There's a reason Dylan did the Q&A with him, and linked only to him as the "opposition blog" in his game preview. He's the actually enlightened Spartan.
The only thing enlightened about The Enlightened Spartan is the couch he's surely enlightened while rioting, because he certainly comes across like one of those brainless idiots that we like to stereotype as State fans.

"You expect a little more from someone who runs a frequently updated blog." Yes, I do, but not from a Sparty!

quit being sore losers. We refered to them as "little brother" every chance we get and where shirts reading "Arrogance Wins" or something to that effect. Expect this kind of stuff with a rivalry. Obviously it sucks when you are on the wrong end of it, but deal with it. The real depressing news is that we are NIT bound once again.

I agree complete that we poke fun at them and are sometimes arrogant, but if you take one look at this guy's blog, it's a whole different world. No analysis, no intelligence, just pure homerism. My opinion has nothing to do with the outcome of last night's game, in which we were fairly and soundly outplayed.
February 11th, 2009 at 12:20 PM ^
what a Sparty blog says anyways? A blatantly homer blog with a lot of subjectivity and little fact is not that out of the ordinary.
February 11th, 2009 at 12:15 PM ^
...It gives them all the right in the world to be doochebags. That's the joy of winning. The "little brother" comment from Mike Hart wasn't the classiest thing in the world, yet I still see UM fans continually using the phrase.
Is the blogger a doochebag? Yeah. Can we do anything about it? Not too much, except hope we win so he doesn't have an opportunity to prove his doocheness.

His LiveBlogs tell the entire pathetic story... some of them are seriously just him talking to himself for hours. Despite his longevity on the web, I think most of Spartan Nation is largely apathetic to his obviously "special" efforts.

I don't know any Spartans that actually read ES. His stuff is pure shit, and I think that everybody knows it.
