End of the Year Posbang - Tell us a positive UM story from this year.

Title pretty much says it all. Let’s keep it positive and civil if we can, and end the year with some feel good stories.

I’ve gotta go to work but I’ll give a quick thanks to Matt Demorest for sponsoring events to meet fellow Mgobloggers. Seth, Brian, Craig Ross, Ed Feng they are all there and willing to talk with us jerks.

My daughter (10) finally got into U of M sports this year. I've taken her to a couple of games (basketball, football, women's basketball) in the past but this year she started wanting to go and she'll watch the games with me on tv at home. It's the best thing ever.

This comment is not directed at you, as I don't give a shit what you "think" about it or whatever.

To the board, and more specifically the mods; WTF? Why do you allow this fuckwit to continue posting here under this handle? Just nobody gives a shit anymore? Why?

The message board has become absolute trash. Trash.

OP/scanner blue, for those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting him, is the the cause of my family's 'postive UM story from this year'.   we got to see him for dinner on saturday and visit with him and get spoiled by him on sunday at crisler.  was birthday for one of the XM kids, too.  that trip, with scanner navigating some of the arena details, will be an all-time memory in the XM household.

thank you scanner, you are the bomb!

I love  doing that stuff and not just for your family. Mo Wagner’s freshman year a teenage girl came in early to that years cupcake game  before Xmas. She had a sign saying “the Mo the Merrier”. I said come down at halftime and I’ll get you a seat near the players tunnel. She and her sign made it on the big screen during a timeout. Mo found her after the game and got her courtside for a great picture. She couldn’t stop smiling on her way out of Crisler.

Edit: this was for a sparsely attended game... ushers will not do this for B1G or “full” games. Don’t even ask.

They didn't fire Bakich and we went to the CWS.

They didn't fire Beilein, but sadly he left anyway.

They hired Howard, and it turned out pretty good so far.

Another season, another violation at THE ohio state penitentiary.

Curb stomped the domers and lil bro in the same season.

My 10 year old grandson and I drove 15 hours from the middle of this godforsaken state of Kansas for Oliver's first ever visit to the Big House. It was a smashing success in every way.

Watching M basketball last winter was a great escape for my wife and me as she underwent chemo treatments. We only missed a couple games all season, and those were ones with late starting times, as she lacked the stamina to stay up. She wasn’t a big basketball fan until last season, but Beilein’s team was a bright spot for her in an otherwise dreary winter.

I officially ended my time at UM by defending my dissertation. That was pretty positive.

Also, having the offense finally come to life and kick the shit out of ND was great!

Taking home the Battle for Atlantis championship, great start to the Juwan era.  Very entertaining and fun to watch with the family over Thanksgiving.

Only make it to one Michigan football game each year these days.  This year, it was a good one - as got drenched in the Pioneer parking lot, then saw WOLVERINES decimate the Irish and their fans/season/etc.  Glorious, it was.

Witnessing the start of "Juwan Era".

Seeing him cry when he was introduce and photographing it was something I will remember for ever.

Personal note. English is improving and I feel more and more included / accepted in Ann Arbor... UM sports is an important factor in that overall progress.

Curb-stomping ND and MSU, Gears of War style. Say what you will about the performance against OSU, but ND and MSU were euphoric bloodbaths that this program needed in the worst possible way.

Hiring Howard and seeing it become a pretty good investment thus far. Clearly a work in progress (what first year HC isn't?), but he's got some good resume points a little over a month into the season, including a beatdown of the #1 team in America. That'll be big come Selection Sunday.

Non Michigan Football related....My son graduated high school and was accepted into the Honors Program at my and my wife's alma mater Palm Beach Atlantic University.

Michigan Football Related...went to see us kill PSU at home for my 40th.  We were touring Schembechler Hall when the entire team showed up for a meeting.  That is where my avatar comes from.  Rashan was unbelievably kind and took a pic.  Peppers slipped inside before I could get a pic with him.

We beat the hell out of both Notre Dame and MSU.

Obviously the regular season ended flat again, but we haven't had really fun wins over the both of those two since 2006 or 2007.

THE RENAISSANCE OF MICHIGAN MEN’S BASKETBALL

The program came back to life in this decade. It all started in the first season of the decade in 2010-11 when Stu Douglass nailed that 3 at MSU to give us our first win there since 1997. We were 1-6 in the B1G at the time and pretty much all wanted Beilein fired.

The rest is history. The 2010s will go down as a very special decade in the history of Michigan Basketball. So much success, huge wins over top-10 teams and championship hardware and banners.

In February my daughter & I made the trek to Happy Valley to see Michigan Basketball beat down Ped State.  We had an ice storm that day, her school was cancelled, and I debated not going.  But, I have a 4wd truck, we had 1st row tickets, and it was our birthday present (hers is the day before mine).

She is a huge fan of Isaiah Livers and as a basketball player tries to copy his game, including Jersey # until this year.  As dad my mission was to try and get her a picture/autograph.

We allowed ourselves 4 hours for the normal 1-1/2 hour drive.  When we got there most everything was closed.  We found some dinner then hung out mostly my truck listening to the radio hoping the game wasnt postponed.

We saw the game, saw history when Beilein got ejected in front of us, made TV during his eruption...and most importantly, Isaiah was kind enough to give a young teen girl some time & attention after the game.  She still talks about it.

The only downside to the whole event was losing to Ped State.

My oldest daughter graduated in May. My son graduated in 2018. Was as touched/excited at commencement the second time as I was the first.  I loved going to school at Michigan and is thrilling to see my kids share my joy in completely different ways.

My younger daughter (21yr) demanded that I take her to a game at the Big House, specifically for OSU. She’s not a real football fan but she’s been watching Michigan games with me for 10 years

Watching UM baseball with my niece during her third birthday weekend then watching UM seize the trident over Thanksgiving with my new nephew was pretty darn special.  They both are a plane ride away (same family in Boston).

Duncan Robinson's success in the NBA. His story is a great lesson about the results of hard work, perseverance, following your dreams, with a dash of a seasoned college bb coach with a knack for finding undeveloped talent.

Went to my first winning football game this year. MTSU. Nearly went to Notre Dame. Bah humbug. Still will take a victory, finally, after going to six losing games in my lifetime lol

My daughter was born at Mott in February...later that day my Dad and I watched Michigan vs Wisconsin on mute in the hospital room while the Mrs. and baby were sleeping.

Scanner Blue - YOU were one of our “positive” and “feel good” experiences  this year during one of our visits to The Big House. Couldn’t thank you enough for making our Grandkid’s day and especially for making the day of their friend who was our guest. According to his Mom, he decorated their Christmas tree with some of the gifts you gave him. How cool is that!?!?

I wish this site provided us with the ability to message each other. Scanner - you are the epitome of what’s referred to as “The Michigan Difference”. I like to see us win as much as anyone but sometimes there’s a few more things that run deeper. Thank you again Scanner for helping to provide one young kid with one of the most memorable experiences of his lifetime! Blessings to you & your family in the New Year!
