End of Game Walk-off Punch

Submitted by psychomatt on
So much for pregame handshakes. So what is the penalty for blindsiding your opponent with a punch to the face because you lost?

The Boise state player was the instigator, no doubt. He even went as far as to touch Blount before the trash-talking. I'm sure most of us have been in or witnessed heated arguments, and when you touch the other person, things tend to get out of control. On the other side, Blount had talked trash before the game, and he got humiliated tonight, both from the individual and team point of view. Maybe Blount deserved to hear some trash talk payback after all. No matter how badly he was provoked, his reaction was shameful. Considering all what happened, the Boise player deserved to be punched in the face (maybe that teaches him a lesson), and Blount deserves some 3-4 games suspension.

I don't know who negged you, but I can totally relate to this sentiment. Yes, it's way fucked up to hit someone in the face, but (and I might be alone on this one) it's way shittier to entice this behavior, which I think the Boise player was doing. Winning with class is MUCH easier than losing with class. Neg away.

I noticed a couple of people didn't like something I said. Just like you mentioned, it should be very easy for the winner to show some class. It's enough to enjoy the moment, and no need to rub salt in the other's wound. Coach Petersen was even faster than Blount to jump on his player for the instigation. In no way do I condone Blount's actions, and I can easily imagine his season deservedly go down the drain, much like Buttler's last year after the ND game. As for the negging, it's ok because I realize people have their own opinions, just like I have mine.

I think the fact this this is by no means Blount's first run-in with discipline problems, the fact that he was going after his own team mates, the fact that he struggled with a coach and a cop, and the fact that he was about to go into the crowd make this worse than anything Butler did. This made Kelly, a new coach in his first game as the head man, look out of control. Blount will be dealt with harshly, IME.

This happened only because the Boise State player challenged him to a match in Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, and Blount very briefly forgot that Mike Tyson's Punch-Out is a video game -- not another name for a cowardly sucker punch. So really, this was all just a misunderstanding.

The face of the Boise State player is classic. He went from smiling and talking shit to falling down and saying "ouch!". Maybe should of shown restraint but you know what, the Boise State player didnt need to touch him, jump around, and yell shit. So he got punched and looks like a fool on tv. I wonder what his friends are saying to him lmao.

Look, Blount shouldn't have punched the guy no matter what he said, and he didnt help matters by continuing to freak out afterwards. But the Boise State guy was a complete and total douche, and deserves some of the blame. If I was Peterson, I would suspend him too, even though the NCAA won't.

That was a total classless act. he said "we owe them an ass whoopin!!" so i guess he meant it. blount should serve a min. 2 game suspension. although i like bob davie's (great irish coach) suggestion..."suspend him indefinitely" good call. what a sucker punch

They are actually talking about dismissal for Blount. So much for saying they "Deserved an ass whopping". How can a team lose three fumbles on interception and miss two field goals and totally destroy Oregon like that?

I thought that whole thing was ridiculous, I'd like to see him get kicked off the team for it. I wouldn't want someone like that playing for Michigan. It was nice though seeing Oregon play the way they did tonight. I was hoping they were overrated going into this season and it seems that could be the case.

Boise State went up and down the field all game. The turnovers were mostly first game things, especially all the snap exchanges. Unless you're Ryan Mallett, those things tend to get resolved. Their defense looked tough too. They just played the team that many picked to unseat USC in the Pac 10 and dominated them. They're underrated if anything.

On one hand.... The kid that did the chirpin...will probably never do any chirpin on anyone again. I have to be honest, it was kind of funny to see the smirk get wiped off his face as he got cold cocked... BUT, before you neg me...it was a STUPID thing to do by Blount, he could have seriously have hurt the kid and his antics after that were ridiculous... so he deserves a big suspension... no doubt.

8 rushes for -5 yds 2 catches for 13 yds. Scholarship pulled. Enjoy the rest of your anger filled life. idiot. I hate the ducks. Kelly has no other choice. 152 yds of offense total. Mike Belotti is lucky he get to fire people now.

Blount should be suspended indefinitely, and if they do decide to kick him off the team he seems to be a perfect fit for MSU. On the other hand if I were Boise State I would suspend the classless punk who got laid out, just for a game. What ever happened to winning with class. There is a serious lack of class in athletics today and that was a great example of it. I was always taught that you talk with your play and not with your mouth. Only a douche bag would go up to a guy tap him on the shoulder and say some smart ass comment to a guy who you just beat. Shake his hand and congratulate him on a great game. And as far the fan indecent, again Blount was way out of line, but what grown man goes out and starts taunting and swearing at a kid.

Calling out a guy (with a few words and a tap to the shoulder pads) for saying your team deserves an ass whoopin for giving your team an ass whoppin the year before after your team laid an ass whoppin on his team AGAIN. Is NEVER in the same category as a juiced up idiot sucker punching an opposing player, his own teammates, a security guard, and tried for three fans. They shook hands before the game. I understand you never played football at any level in pads. If you did you would know that a hit with the hand to the shoulder pads is a gesture of "hey you" and not an act of aggression. Punching someone in the face with your helmet still on is an act of aggression. Blount's senior season is over. Stats 8 carries -5 yds and gave up a safety. The good side is Walmart is always hiring.

Don't make assumptions. And secondly for them to be in the same category they would have the same consequences. I am not a proponent of that, and I did not say that. All I am arguing for is that the guy who got hit is that he kept his mouth shut. I understand that you hate Oregon and that might be part of the reason you didn't read my post as a non partisan opinion. I was just calling for more class and better sportsmanship. And I am not sure why you keep quoting his stats as they are irrelevant in the situation.

The 2007 M-Oregon game showed me they can't win with class; I guess they can't lose with class either. (Sad that not even a pregame handshake can cure douche-itis.)

There's no way the NCAA suspends him for the year - they'll give him a game or two. I think Kelly, given Blount's past and the degree to which he went off the reservation, will deal with this more harshly.
