Elvis was a great QB at Michigan. He really started the trend of 6'3" + pocket passers at UofM.
When he was subbed in for the injured option-QB Taylor in the '89 ND game, he started slinging the ball everywere.
We were like "Who the fuck is this guy?". And this was under Bo no less. We looked like Miami, not Michigan.
Had we kept the Rocket out of the end zone just once, we would have won.
That's insanely cool. Especially since I thought Grbac had disappeared off the face of the earth.
Gator Bowl folks should've been ashamed. Maybe this was what Brandon was trying to avoid.

My nephew played for Ignatius, and last time I was in Cleveland, the Plain Dealer had something about Grbac coaching in that area.
Elvis was treated TERRIBLY in Kansas City. His ONLY legitimate downfield threat during his time in KC was Tony Gonzalez and Elvis had nobody running the football (before Preist Holmes) to help.
The locals believe Rich Gannon and his PUSS ARM would have won them the SB in 1997-the difference was that Gannon could not throw the 25 yard out and when the Raiders (Gannon's next team) made it to the AFC Championship they finally faced a team that took away the middle and Gannon lacked the arm strength to win the game.
Grbac still holds six All-Time records with the Chiefs, including: Most touchdowns passes in consecutive games (15), Lowest percentage, passes had intercepted (3.04), and Most yards gained in a single game (504).
In 1997 Elvis had Joe Horn and an aging Andre Rison (injured and distracted to say the least). Tony Gonzalez was a rookie and literally the only deep ball threat in 97 the year of the Gannon ordeal.
97 was also Marcus Allens last year and his talents had diminished.
Derrick came on in 1998 YES and Elvis still holds 6 Chiefs passing records to this day. Mostly because the Chiefs had a very mediocre backfield with an aging Bam Morris, Kimble Anders and Donell Bennett.
Besides the town having an Elvis issue (unfairly) the locker room also preferred Gannon as he was more carismatic and Elvis was quoted as saying, "I cant throw and catch the ball as well."
Tim Grunhard once shared with me that Grbac invited the entire team to his home for a Christmas party were he spent thousands in catering and gifts for the team. Grunhard with is wife and a few rookies were the only few who showed. Next practice Grunhard ripped many of the veterans for such a hateful act but by then the team was lost and playing out contracts.
Bad personell decesions, some poor choices but Elvis was the better talent then Gannon and had the pure arm strength to stretch a defense that Marty Schottenheimer desired.

In San Fransisco, where the jackass Mayor called him, "An embarassment to humankind" because he was playing poorly during a more than difficult time in his personal life.
If felt like they were automatic throwing that pass in the red zone.

Todd Collins was the king of burning timeouts, but he was pretty good and accurate with the deep ball. Once Moeller left, those bombs were not used as much. Those Grbac/Collins teams had the O-line to protect the line long enough for those plays to develop, stud receivers with good speed, and a running game that made defenses play honest. That was a perfect combination. Big reason why we won five straight conference titles.
Side note: We were one blown PI call away from going to five straight Rose Bowls. Damn you Eddie Brown and the Big Ten refs.
with dead on accuracy too! Hit the open receivers, placed the ball perfectly to covered receivers and distance was no problem. He was incredible.

We were ranked No. 2, ND ranked No. 1. Freshman Elvis comes on for injured starter Michael Taylor and looked like a seasoned vet, bringing UM back from the dead with his accurate passing and calm leadership. ND's offense did nothing all day except convert one turnover deep in our end. Their QB Tony Rice completed one pass all day. But... sonofabitch... yeah, that happened. Twice. ARRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHH.

I started out of the stadium as rocket was gone the second time. I remember thinking damn I am going to miss a come back. Reminded me alot of the tate year MSU game in the rain.

5 if Grbac redshirted the year we beat USC in the Rose Bowl. I'm not sure about the Harbaugh teams but I think he only won the 1986 title. Grbac went 4 for 4 in Big Ten titles, of course unless he was a redshirt on the 1988 team.

Grbac redshirted in '88, so I'm not giving him part of that conference championship or Rose Bowl. He started four games in the conference championship year of '89, but didn't play in the Rose Bowl after that season, so I'm not giving him that game either. He was the starter in for the conference championships in '90, '91 and '92, and was the QB in both of the Rose Bowls against Washington after '91 and '92.
Harbaugh: One conference championship, one Rose Bowl
Grbac: Four conference championships, two Rose Bowls
None of this diminishes their tremendous achievements at Michigan.

That's really cool. I did a little background research to verify (1 minute of wikipedia) and found that both Desmond and Elvis went to the same high school at the same time. Which is pretty amazing given "the catch."
