Eli Brooks vs. Corn-y teams
Much has been made this year about how some random guy playing Michigan has the game of his life (this game featured Kevin Cross, he of the 28% 3P percentage hitting 3/5 on the way to 17 points), and how inexplicable it seems to be. But it should be noted that Eli Brooks has become That Guy against teams that hail from the state of Iowa (noted for it's corn production) or with corn in their name (i.e. Nebraska Cornhuskers). In 4 games against Iowa, Iowa St., and Nebraska, he's got the following per-game averages:
- 16.5 pt
- 50% FG
- 43% 3P
- 5 Rebounds
- 3 assists
In all other non-Corn games, he's got the following splits:
- 10.8 pt
- 42% FG
- 38% 3P
- 3 Rebounds
- 2 assists
And yes, if we factor in Creighton the numbers go down a bit, but since they're just located in Nebraska and in fact don't make reference to corn, their omission feels correct.
What does this mean for the future? If Michigan's post-season hangs in the balance at the end of the year when Nebraska travels to A2, bet the house on Brooks going for a triple-double.

This is the analysis my sports fandom has been yearning for. Well done Bronx.

I was today years old when I learnt that Creighton is in NE.
I always thought Missouri.

I always thought Missouri.
Nope, essentially down town Omaha.

And "essentially downtown Omaha" means exactly downtown Omaha.

Eh, it gets a bit toward mid town on the west, but a lot of the new buildings are definitely considered more down town.

And UNC has a coach (Roy Williams) who spent years in the cornfields of Kansas, so we can count them, too.

There is some corn grown out here in Kansas-and it is pathetic.

I like cream corn best

Cream corn or creamed corn - this debate was just on NPR with newly appointed LSA dean Anne Curzan. I would go with creamed but gastronomically the best is upstate NY just picked “ butter and sugar” on the cob.

Sugar? Salt and pepper baby. No sugar.

It’s a seed variety - yellow and white kernels.

That's why I hope the NCAA Tournament game is against the IUPUI Creamed Corns.

I vehemently hate creamed corn. Right up there with cooked broccoli and stabbing my own eyes with a splinter.
