EJ Levenberry Update

Submitted by RollDamnTide on
I know I said that I wouldn't do recruiting updates anymore, but I thought I'd share some info on EJ. Turns out FSU will be visiting EJ today in Virginia. This is really interesting to me, because the analysts closest to the Levenberry family, have all said he's a FSU lean at this point. If he's a FSU lean, that appears to be news to the FSU staff. People I've spoken with in the south say it's rare that a school confident about a recruit, make this much of a last minute visit. This is hardly inside info, but this appears to be odd behavior from his prohibited leader. I don't know Coach Hoke's recruiting philosophy, although I can't imagine he'd let FSU have the last visit, unless he knew something no one else did. I'd say this could be a good sign for the Wolverines. Good luck, boys.

I also think he will be choosing FSU, that being said you gotta love the job Hoke is doing. Some time ago, and most can probably agree,  Michigan would most likely never be in Levenberry's final 2 or 3, now not only are they attracting major talent to visit and consider Michigan they are landing these kids. Oh and RDT please keep on keepin' on with these updates, they are much apprieciated

Hey RDT I know this is off topic, but what do you think about the whole MMB not going to Dallas for our throwdown Sept 1st? If the tables were turned how would you take this?

One other thing regarding Levenberry's recruitment

The fact that FSU has one of the best Criminal Justice programs in the country is hurting our chances with him. When the kid says that academics are important to him, he's not just blowing smoke. It's just that FSU happens to offer the specific major that he's interested in and we do not.

Here's a quote from Shane Morris on ESPN.

“I think they're pretty good,” Morris said. “The one thing is we don't have his major. That could be a problem but if he feels like he should be there (at Michigan), he could use his degree to go into that later.”

Levenberry plans to major in criminal justice.

wants the updates. The problem, and reason he stopped posting, is that a lot of what he said was getting reposted as fact elsewhere and his sources were probably catching flak for it. It's certainly not that we don't want him back.

If he is going to decide tomorrow, that doesn't give Hoke much time to make a visit himself.

I also thought it was a no contact period right now.  Is FSU going to abuse the bump rule and say things that they shouldn't say?  I wouldn't be surprised if Jimbo was up to no good.

In school visits with high school coaches only. No contact permitted with the kid himself. Also, as of three years ago, the rule was changed so that the head coach cannot be on the road visiting schools at this time. Assistant coaches only.

Obv. you have a life, but anything you hear regarding Michigan prospects, and also interesting stuff on the SEC, is worth posting. I'd rather read your analysis and speculation much, much more than threads about law school, Olympic sports, bars in AA, snow tires, squirrel recipes, etc.

Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS! Remember Mattison will pave the way for your success to the NFL. Play 10yrs in the NFL, retire and go to FSU and get your FUZZ diploma.

With love,

Another Michigan fan that doesn't hold any water to your decision.

Didn't E.J. or his dad flat out name Michigan his leader 2 months ago? (Answer: yes) I realize that is a long time ago in recruiting, but you'd think if FSU was the leader, they would make an equivalent or stronger statement about the 'Noles following his multiple visits. If they have and I missed it, please educate me.

Additionally, he moved his decision date up to 10 days after our spring game, a visit he called "10/10." That's a pretty sudden change which history suggests favors the most recently visited school.

Linebacker recruiting has been somewhat odd this year. Gedeon wasn't a silent commit, yet we turned away top prospects with only McCray a solid verbal. I can't help but suspect that Hoke and co. knew something about Levenberry all along.

Taking all of this with RDT's perspective of Jimbo's visit today as a positive indicator for us, I cannot help but be somewhat optimistic. I'm at least not writing him off. Of course I've only seen the Michigan side of this. What is there out there that strongly indicates FSU? Save me the criminal justice major that he won't need for the next ~14 years. You can get a criminal justice major from East Wyoming Community College in 12 months.

Originally, the staff only planned on taking two linebackers total in this class. When McCray decided to commit, it was somewhat out of the blue so the plan changed. A decision was made that they would take both Gedeon and Levenberry if they wanted to commit. Otherwise, we're only taking two (those two will be McCray & Gedeon).

Yes. But at the time we turned away O'daniel et al. we only had McCray committed. The plan was still to take two, so why wouldn't we still host visits for them? Perhaps because the coaches knew something about Levenberry. I'm not saying that it's true. Just blind speculation. It's more likely they knew something about Gedeon as his recruitment played out like a silent commit even though he denied it.

Usually when a recruit is going to commit he is texting and and yacking it out with the Michigan recruiting analysts in the days before the announcement. When analysts are saying they haven't been in contact with the guy or using logic as to why the guy might commit it's a bad sign. When's the last time a recruit commited here after having a date set up and Tom wasn't being coy about it? The only time I can remember is maybe Demar Dorsey.

RDT, I like your recruiting insight, always interesting to get an SEC perspective. Keep them coming IMO. Go Blue, see you in Dallas!

Mr. Sam Webb just tweeted that both FSU and Michigan  have already been to EJ's school today. Bring out the replay booth for this one, it will be that close.

This looks like a close race.  All things being equal why would a kid not go to the school that offers the major of his choice?

The thing Michigan has going for it is that all things are not equal.  Michigan has a coaching staff set up to coach kids right into the NFL.  The article about how Mattison got Martin ready for the NFL is the reason Michigan should consistantly bring in top defensive talent.

Ever since that week long visit to Tallahassee I figured he was headed to FSU. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it. Sucks that we turned away other top LB's if we do lose him.

FSU has been one of if not the best recruiting teams over 2-3 years of quality...Michigan is getting back on that level....FSU doesnt NEED LBs like everyone says they already have 2 and are in it for 2 others....Michigan signed the BEST LB corp over the last 2 cycles including this one...FSU signed the BEST collection of DL prospects over the last 2 cycles....Odell Haggins is the guy recruiting him the same guy who brought in Goldman and flipped Darby....Mattison used to be at UF and is an excellent recruiter so he is used to the pressure coaches put on kids down here...This one is going the distance no matter who this kid commits to tomorrow...either way someone is getting a 2.5-3 year starter at Mike.

But Alabama has definitly had a better LB class in the last 2 cycles, and it could be argued that Ohio and ND have had better DL classes as well.
