Does anyone else agree that this looks like Harbaugh took the car keys away from Gattis?

Because this looks EXACTLY like the previous 4 years.

Sure looks like it's at least playcall by committee again, or that Gattis has to get the play approved by JH. Could be he's just calling what he thinks JH will be happy with. This, minus a few plays, is the JH offense from the last few years. Few if any RPOs, no keeps on the ZR - maybe not even a read.

These guys have 90 pressers a week. Can any of the reporters present just ask why isn’t Shea pulling some of these? I saw no less than 6-7 instances where it would’ve gotten an extra 7+ yards. Thats conservatively an extra 50 yards of offense. Not to mention what else ZC could get when there’s a real threat of a pull.

Completely agree. Speed in space should not involve HB dive on every other play. Gattis was hired specifically to get away from this approach, no?

Seems like whoever is calling plays is possessed by the spirit of Bo. Someone is telling our playcallers to consistently run the ball up the gut, even if it’s into a stacked line full of 8-9 guys. Because this is Michigan fergodsakes, we’re gonna out-tough ‘em.

Offense seems consistently stuck in 1973 or something.

I'm a little surprised we run so little from spread formations. The formations seems like the ones we utilized last year. Was kind of expecting more empty sets or four wide.

Also a little surprised we don't roll out Patterson as he seems best on the move. Keeping him in the pocket, unless it's a quick pass, doesn't seem to be working for us.

Yes, what was the wrong pass ratio today? 33 carries for a RB who was only averaging 3 ypc. It certainly looked like last year. Army dbs looked overmatched all day but yet the playcalling kept on dialing up reads up the gut which weren't actual read cause Patterson was clearly instructed not to hand it off. Very little trying to stretch Army vertically. Besides a few rpos here and there it looked indentical to last year. Idiotic playcalling, plain and simple. Also turtling up and not attacking when mistakes are being made is a staple of Harbaugh offenses since he has been here.

What should one expect Michigan to do against this Army D line that Michigan, by all things right and holy, should be "throwing out of the club" to borrow a phrase from Gronk? It's somewhat unreal Michigan could not average better than 5 ypc against this defense based on the offensive line executing blocks to their termination.

No, I think it is a few things.

  • Patterson is more banged up than we realize
  • McCaffrey is not starter material as of this second
  • DPJ is out
  • RB core is a bit depleted

I think it was a case of Gattis playing with bad cards. The good news is all of these issues will improve as the season continues. Army was a game I was worried about. Survived, now move on.

Banged up or not Michigan still has far better athletes than Army. 21 points in overtime is embarrassing output. And if your QB is hurt don't you think it would wise to not have a read option that is clearly not even a read due to Patterson's injury as your bread and butter play in your game plan? Gattis couldn't do anything about the injuries but he certainly has control of that.

LOL.  Just announce to the board that you have zero idea what you’re watching.  Between this thread and morons in the Urban thread thinking he’s a genius because he was explaining the simple reads in the M offense I 100% sure that this fan board is full of people that have no idea what they’re watching on Saturdays.
