From my understanding, it is an OSU-U of M battle. Speculation out of OSU is that he is an OSU lean. But there is a long way to go. Hopefully, Gordon can get in his ear and recruit him to Michigan.
If we don't land Gardner, we need to land either Bolden or Green from Florida.

I think all the talk about him being a silent commit is strange. I obviously don't know, since it would be....silent. From talking to him, I honestly think he's going to give everyone a shot. He's going to take his time, and enjoy the process. I don't think it's just an OSU vs. M battle, especially with all the new offers he's going to get.
We are high on Christian Green and Jeffrey Godfrey. I don't think we're after Bolden as much as the other three.

Agreed. But, if Bolden isn't liking what he is hearing from other schools about their plans for him, I could see us getting a Bolden/Godfrey combo. I don't get a good vibe on Gardner for some reason. I think Green is the more realistic of those two to come to AA.

the "Noel Devine" factor. He was pulled by RR from Florida, but Texas almost exclusively keeps their in-staters. FLA is a different story with so many prominant schools and what-not. Even still, slim to no shot for Seastrung.

What I meant to say was Texas picks and chooses who they want out of the state of Texas and the rest are picked up by other schools, sure some out of state.
All I am saying is Seastrung will be a Longhorn, don't get your hopes up.

What you say makes sense. But it doesn't play out in the statistics. Among the 7 Michigan players, one was the 2nd best quarterback in the country, and another was a very highly rated running back. (Of course, both transferred back into the region. Derrr)
This only charts the recruits ranked by Rivals. Players under 3-star aren't in it. In other words, these stats are BEST when tracking the recruits that Texas would go after.
You do see a fair degree of REGIONAL but not STATE loyalty from high-end Texas recruits. But at least from 2005-08, Texas DIDN'T keep much of their best talent.
Of the players who received 5 stars (6.1 or higher Rivals Ranking) during that time:
1 (Stafford) went to Georgia
1 (Toliver) went to LSU
1 (Youngblood) went to Miami
1 (Mallett) came to Michigan
4 chose Oklahoma
4 chose Texas
1 chose Texas A&M
Now imagine if that was the best 13 recruits from the State of Michigan during this period. It would be akin to four choosing M, one going to State, four going to Ohio State, and four others choosing out-of-state schools on par with Michigan.
Does Texas have a loyalty problem? Perhaps. Their extra-regional attrition was the same as any other state.
Where the loyalty problem lies is in that they allowed as many blue chippers to slip away to their big out-of-state rival as went to the state's biggest football school. Texas got four; Oklahoma stole 4. In Michigan, the Wolverines locked up 8 of the state's best 13 players. One chose MSU. None went to Ohio State.
The old recruiting adage of "Texans go to Texas," when put under a microscope, is just as big of a lie as Testaverde's boast of "you can never have too many guys from Miami."

Agreed. For any Texas recruit 5-star, knowing just the state he's from, I'd say 40% Texas, 40% Sooners, 10% other Big XII school or LSU, and the other 10 percent one of the big national schools.

Not to be an asshole, but Im gonna call bullshit on these numbers. I know that Eastern, Central, and Western draw WAY more in-state talent than these numbers show. Almost all of their players are from in-state.

a rivals interview with bryce brown has basically squashed the idea of him going to LSU. he said he doesnt know much about LSU at all. the only thing he knows about LSU is from one of his relatives telling him that they have a crazy game atmosphere.
in a nut shell, LSU is not a competitor for his signature.

How come it seems like Gardner is getting the full court press but not too much noise around Bolden? Almost all of the recruiting sites say that Bolden is faster and more polished as a passer than Gardner. Is Bolden not interested in UM? Are there grade issues? Any insight would be appreciated from the "Yoda" of UM insider recruiting.

Bolden sees himself as more of a pro-style than dual threat. He can run, but he has said that he ideally doesn't want to be in a spread offense. The potential with Gardner is unbelievable. He's a monster.

Wow, this is a hard question. First, let me say this. If we're comparing whether I would have Devin Gardner, or two players, that's not a fair comparison. Also, I'm only going off of highlight films, which is pretty unreliable.
I haven't talked to Christian yet, so I can't speak on how he is as a person. Gardner is a good kid. He's got the right attitude, and confidence, and I think he'll be a really good QB.
Devin has kind of a weird throwing motion. Man, this is tough.
I think for MICHIGAN, for our kind of offense, I would rather have Christian Green. I'm probably going to get drilled for that, but I think he fits better. DG thinks of himself as a passer that can make a play with his feet if he has to. Christian Green runs around a 4.45 40, but can still throw.
This is pretty hard, but I think that Christian Green could do more with RR's offense. This is not to say that Devin Gardner won't be awesome, because I think he will be.
