Denard for President of Everything Michigan Related

Submitted by andrewG on

I'm sure this is buried somewhere in the 170-some comments of the previous Denard thread just a little further down the board, but I believe this quote, after Denard rushed for 127 yards and a TD against the Browns, warrants a thread of it's own:

Robinson, a former Michigan quarterback, was asked about his career day.

"Good to do it against an Ohio team," he said.

Now THAT is a Michigan Man. [source]

If you saw the interview of Tom on NFL Network after the game Thursday, you'd have been proud.  Such a professional, likable, humble if that's even possible (when he has the greatest life ever).  Total class.  And ultimately a quiet nerd, he admitted he has no hobbied, doesn't like music or art or anything, he just likes "the grind" and being with his family.  (Although, if she was your wife, kinda hard to imagine any other hobby you'd want to have.)

Loved Rich Eisen's question near the end -- "So since you left playing for the greatest institution of higher education on the planet...."

Denard and Charles and Tom... who you got, Sparty and Buckeyes?  Tyrelle Pryor?  Kirk Cousins?

It seems like 22 carries, 127 yards and 1 TD in the modern NFL running game is doing it to an Ohio team with authority, and so much the better. Glad to see him starting and immediately being the impactful player we knew he could be. If the change in the athletic department came with that smile, well, who has been able to argue with that smile?

Love his use of his hand to keep his knee off the ground when reaching, he did the exact same thing when he beat State to keep the game winning drive alive.

Can you imagine Denard's press conferences as AD? He could get up there and talk in detail about concession sales at Alumni Field and everyone with an account here would be watching and nodding their heads furiously.

Even better, imagine Denard joining a team at an NCAA tournament. We saw the enthusiasm level for regular season hockey and basketball, but being that fired up in a suit at a field hockey tournament would be a whole new level of awesome.

Has experience with both spread and pro style offenses Able to deal with subpar Offensive lines Great with media. Great in recruiting. Who wouldn't want to play for Denard Michigan connections impeccable. Would he stay: that's already been proven Would he come? For $4 million a year, you bet.

Man, a few days ago I mentioned in the 'This Week's Obsession' post about Denard being my all-time fav Michigan player and how lucky we were to have him, but also that he'd hopefully have a breakout game in the NFL eventually. Wasn't necessarily expecting it to happen this weekend, though!

Couldn't be happier for Denard!

Denard may be a star in a year or so, if they keep feeding him the rock and he can put some good games together.  He has a lot of style on the field and charisma off of it.  I see endorsements in his future if he breaks out a bit more on the field.

how amazing would it be for denard to have a successful NFL career then eventually make his way back to ann arbor to take over as head coach?

he could replace mike hart, who will be tyrone wheatleys replacement, who will be jim harbaughs replacement...

Classy guy credits his OL constantly in that presser.  He definitely looks like 215 lbs.  He mentioned that he was reading the OLs blocks because he watches film with them...I definitely noticed that today, he was very patient running and waiting for creases to open up and then using his burst.  He looked very good.

Whoever advised him to be a WR coming out was foolish.  I mentioned this then, and its clear now that it held his development back a season.  Its all good though, maybe working at WR has helped his hands some.

It took close to a year to heal and bothered him all last season, but he (and now I read the coaches) kept it quiet.  But he just couldn't hold on to the ball.  Not good for a WR or returner.  But I think I read that after bulking up and moving to RB, he only had one drop or fumble in all of summer camp and preseason.  He's still listed as a WR on the roster so he can still wear his college number 16, and I wonder if his progress learning the RB position plus the major improvement in ball-handling puts him back in the "Offensive Weapon" position.

(Odd that the report on his game on Jacksonville.com says the issue was that he cut his hand between two fingers.  Could it be that they kept the nerve injury so quiet that even the local media didn't  know?  Or did he have a second injury?)

He has a good coach using him correctly, and a new tough attitude! Go DRob! God if he was used more effectively at Michigan he would have won a Heisman. Why the deep passes Hoke?
