Delonte Hollowell signs with the Lions
Delonte Hollowell has signed as an UDFA with the Detroit Lions!
Hollowell is the first Wolverine to play for the Lions since Jeff Backus played his final season before retiring in 2012.

Bold prediction: He doesn't stick. Unless you're Matt Cassel, you generally don't go from college backup to NFL player.
For a quick reference, I'm using Wikipedia:
1996 season[edit]
In 1996, Dreisbach rebounded from his injury to beat out Brian Griese and sophomore Tom Brady as the Wolverines' starting quarterback. Dreisbach served as Michigan's starting quarterback for the first 11 games of the 1996 season, leading the team to an 8–3 record in those games.[7][8] After tying a Michigan record with four touchdown passes in a 45–29 victory over Michigan State, he was selected as Michigan's Athlete of the Week.[9] In 11 games during the 1996 season, Dreisbach completed 149 of 269 passes (55.4% completion percentage) for 2,025 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions.[10]
In 12 games as a starter during the 1995 and 1996 seasons, Dreisbach led the Wolverines to a 12–4 record and completed 205 of 375 passes for 2,875 yards, 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.[10]

Brad Johnson...Michael Cox... etc. that is just off the top of my head...if i really put some thoughts in it, I could definitely think of more..but I won't because this is a stupid topic to debate.
Hoke and company were the coaching staff for his entire career. They obviously miscalculated on several good players (Again, I could name them but I won't. If you follow the program you know these players).
Second, you must have missed the year where Michael Cox went to UMass and started at running back.
I'm pretty confident that the coaching staff did not miscalculate in regard to Hollowell.
Saying that Hoke dropped the ball because a player who couldn't get off his bench signed a tryout is crazy.
Half of these guys don't even make it to the first preseason game and maybe 1 in 100 will make it out of training camp.
I bet Harbaugh could find a place to put him on the field to at least do something.
Where is it again where Hoke is coaching next year?
a) Delonte Hollowell did not run a 4.34. Pro day times are notoriously fast. IIRC, Raymon Taylor ran a 4.42 and Devin Funchess ran a 4.48 at Michigan's pro day. Do you really think all three of those guys are sub-4.5 players, especially after Funchess ran a 4.7 at the Combine?
b) Hoke *did* find a place on the field for Hollowell to do something. He was used on special teams coverage, and when he came in on defense, Hoke used him to allow touchdowns.
c) Hoke isn't coaching anywhere, as you know. But if I just made millions of dollars over four years and got fired, I might take a season off, too. I hope you don't actually think he couldn't find a job if he wanted one.

I'm surprised that Hollowell has signed somewhere but still no news about Raymon Taylor.
Yeah, kind of surprising. I assume he's trying to figure out the best team? I mean, he's not an elite corner, but he did produce reasonably well on a P5 team, though I guess JT Floyd never got a camp offer, so it isn't unprecedented.
Can't say I foresaw him getting signed by a team considering his lack of playing time (and honestly his performance when he did play) but he did have a great pro day. Detroit hasn't exactly set the world on fire with their UDFA signings this year, maybe with some coaching he can grab a practice squad spot, but he would have to be considered a longshot.
He probably got coached up by Harbaugh in the last few weeks and will end up in the Pro bowl
After all, he coached Winston for a few hours and he ended up the number one pick!
I would say that in a few generations people will speak of someone having "The Harbaugh Touch" & if you tried to talk about the Midas touch they'll think you're talking about mufflers
That's actually kind cool for him really, to sign with the hometown team (Hollowell is from Detroit, after all), and congratulations to him. Actually, I didn't even consider Hollowell as someone who would be signed because there just wasn't enough data really for him, but a nice pro day later and hopefully he sees the field on Sunday.

Ummm...probably the coach who coached at Michigan last, which is why he's an undrafted free agent.
Huh. Bit surprised, but wish him all the best!
The 4.34 forty yard dash(at pro day) got him the invite.
I hope he makes the best of his shot.
Was his inability to perform at Michigan indicative of a bad fit with the coaching staff?
No, not really. He was not a highly rated recruit, he was small, and he basically didn't beat anyone else out for playing time for four consecutive years except Terry Richardson and Reon Dawson.

might work out... how many secretly NFL-caliber players did Hoke NOT play again?
Nah that was Terrence Robinson. Master of the "dream shake."
Mel was a supplemental draft pick after playing RB at Purdue. That's all I got lol.
I'm not sure if this is accurate or not, but this link says Gray only returned 2 kickoffs throughout his entire college career. Meanwhile, he had 1,765 career rushing yards and 15 touchdowns as a running back.
Brett Perriman
Corey Schlesinger
Rodney Pete
Chris Spielman (pre-commentator Spielman)
Bennie Blades
Were all also names I remembered and loved to watch along with Mel Gray!
I'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but Breshad Perriman - the Ravens' first round draft pick - is the son of Brett Perriman.
