Delany: No regrets about adding Rutgers
Water is wet, does a bear shit in the woods, etc. Just thought it relevant for anyone here harboring any remote hopes we could ever jettison this embarrassment from our conference.
Quotes so quintessentially Delany you'd identify the source if I posted them here with no context:
Delany, in his first public comments on Rutgers since the university began investigating coach Kyle Flood in August, told the Tribune the Big Ten does not regret adding Rutgers. As Delany noted, the Rutgers/Maryland expansion fulfilled a "strategic objective" to penetrate several giant East Coast markets.
"It might be a fun read that the Big Ten has remorse, but it's somewhat irrelevant," Delany said. "I can't name an institution during my (26-year) tenure that has not had a serious personnel or ethical issue at one point. These are high-profile situations with lots of exposure. I wish we never had any of it at our schools, but I'm realistic."

Delaney's a NJ guy and RU will bounce back. RU's problems right now are personnel problems. They need better leadership and coaches. Otherwise, the school itself and location are strategic assets for the B1G.

Rutgers won't go anywhere, but I never expected anything like that to happen. Maryland has been a decent addition, at least.
Again, if the conference isn't going to throw PSU out, no way anything is going to change in the conference. One can only hope that the cleanup at Rutgers has a net positive for the conference in the end.

I didn't really read Delaney's comments to be "no regrets," more like "oh well, they're part of the conference now." Teddy Greenstein is the one who said no regrets.

Look, any business executive needs to look at long term objectives... and this was a business decision pure and simple.
Whether or not you agree or disagree that Rutgers and Maryland should have been added as conference members, isolated episodes should not meaningfully impact whether or not this expansion proves to be successful.
OSU had issues with Tressel, we had issues with Fisher/Ed Martin and last year with the handling of Morris' head injury. It goes on and on. Anyone advocating removing Ohio State or Michigan from the conference or having regrets that we're members???

but only REAL Big Ten schools have a hockey program...If you are a MAJOR midwest university in the HEART of Hockey country and you cant field a hockey team then you are not a real Big Ten school...but.,..thats just me

What MAJOR midwest universities don't have hockey?
Do you consider Purdue to be MAJOR? I don't. Maybe Illinois? Is Kentucky in the midwest? Indiana is the only school I can think of off the top of my head. I suppose Nebraska is midwest...I think?

BTN sucks. Rutgers sucks. He could've easily had Syracuse, Louisville or Mizzou over them.
He's way past him prime and he should've retired around the same time Lloyd Carr did.

I wonder who the next "tire fire" is in the B10. Seems like a cycle... Ohio State then Penn State then Michigan and now Rutgers. Maybe it will be little brother next.

One positive, is that recruiting has taken a turn for the better in the B1G. Adding Maryland and Rutgers has added two very talented states to the Big Ten geographic footprint. So those kids would be more open to staying home, or going to another B1G school so they'd get to play in their home state once every other year.
Look at the success in NJ in particular. Penn State and Michigan have dominated that state the past 2 years.

that adding Rutgers and Maryland has reaped recruits recently.... I will gaurantee though that it will, eventually.
I know UM recruiting raids areas off trouble like sanctions with certain teams busted cheating. Or going through a coaching change like we just were. Or like what is going on in Texas. Problem with Texas is, they have three other Texas teams taking advantage of the falling of the Longhorns. Go Blue!
