Dear fan in the stands...

Dear fan in the stands....

I do not care anymore if you are 30 years my senior. The following will no longer be tolerated.

  1.  Yelling back and forth at the top of your lungs at your nefphew 6 people down the row to you.
  2. Even though his name is Richard, hearing "Hey Dick, your coach sucks!!" early and often, even if you are decked out in vintage 70's 'Go blue' gear, it wears thin on the rest of us.
  3. Yelling "Thats coaching"every time the ball pops out and hits the ground may seem valid. Whom do you suggest the coach bench and play in their place?
  4. Even if you feel correct in your statement, there may be a reason Thompson is on the field. Saying "He has no reason to be on the field" may be a little over the top.
  5. I agree, Graham did seem to get held alot. Maybe not the 47 times you said so, but I didn't watch him on every play.
  6. "This QB sucks, no wonder he didn't start at Georgia Tech!" may be part of him being a freshman. A true freshman at GT, and redshirt freshman here at Michigan. Given that, the coaching staff and most casual observers feel he is better than the elder QB statesman on the team David Cone, Nick Sheridan, and Justin Feagan.
  7. "Hey Dick, this line is terrible!!". Although I feel the line is still a work in progress, they are kids, please feel free to email the proper starting line to the coaching staff since you feel they lack the understanding you do.
  8. "I have never seen a team lose this bad at home" means you were not here during the Oregon game last year. I do think you may have been here against Ohio State in 1968 as well. I was more disapointed in the '02 Iowa loss. I believe Michigan was a top 10 team going into that game. Did you think they were in this game?
I could go on, but I felt that when I looked you in the eye as we left after the clock ran out and said "Some people like to bitch, and then their is you." said it all. I do give you credit, you did not leave even though many of your peers did early in the fourth.

Edit: A special thanks to these guys:http://kevinkarr.net/tailgateblog/

I appreciated the hospitality.

Excellent post. #7 had me cracking up. I think this post should be nominated to headline just as the diaries are.  Please post often.

And in case it weren't implied, I'm pretty sure Threet didn't start at Georgia Tech because he decided to transfer before what would have been his freshman season started.

I hear you Shock... now THAT game made it hard to wake up in the morning for about 3 days.  They were completely manhandled, pure and simple ass-kicking.

And yes, right up there with last year's Oregon, which was a complete meltdown.

OR... That Minnesota game when Harrison let Maroney (or Barber?) down the sideline in time for the game-winning FG for the Jug... THAT one hurt too.

Colorado, Kordell.  Enough said.

2000, when Plaxico caught like 39 balls for 709 yards to whip us.  I think my eyes bled that day.

McNabb's big day-- probably the most dominant visiting QB performance before Dennis Dixon and Juice this week-- I was in Happy Valley that day and remember watching the video later in the week.  It was, in a word, detestable.

Guess the point is, THIS is not the first Michigan team to get spanked-- although it might be the least experienced.  All told, Saturday could have been MUCH worse.  It always hurts to watch them lose, and I'm proud to say it always will.  But let's just stay the course.  The team on the field is the best we have.

Go freakin' Blue.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I have pretty vague memories of Michigan from 97-02, didn't really start making sure I watched every game until 2003. Anyway just go to Mike Desimone's page under "M on the Net" on the left side of the screen. Apparently Michigan lost 34-9 to Iowa in 2002. I wonder if it could have actually been worse than 2003's loss to Iowa which featured around 3 dozen blocked puntsand spoiled Navarre throwing for almost 400 yards. That was my first soul crushing Michigan loss.

Iowa and Wisconsin are the two Big Ten teams that always play Michigan tough.  We start playing Iowa again next year at their place, which is one game that always scares me a little.

Syracuse '98 was far worse than Iowa '02.  We were actually in the Iowa '02 game until a muffed punt inside our on 20 in the second half.  (I think we were down about 9 at that point.)  The muff opened the flood gates.  I seem to recall all of our receivers dropping every third down pass, Braylon included.

McNabb owned us from the start.  That ass kicking was FAR WORSE than Oregon.  We scored some garbage points at the end to make the score look respectable.   At least against Oregon we moved the ball a little.

Iowa '02 actually unfolded a lot like Saturday's game.  The score was 10-6 at the half and we even kicked a FG to make it 10-9 early in the 3rd.  Then we fumbled a punt deep in our territory, Iowa scored a quick TD, and the wheels just came off.  Our D ran out of gas and once we were forced to pass every down, their DE (DeVries?) just abused our OT (Courtney Morgan) play after play.  Navarre was a sitting duck.
