Dear Desmond,
And you've got a chance to redeem yourself, presumably, during one of several other Game Day breaks today.
For having said, stupidly, that "All the Michigan Alumni" want Rich Rodriguez to go. It's not true; it's not even remotely true. It's completely inaccurate. But you said it. And in doing so, you misinformed a national tv audience.
Desmond, you really need to pick up your game as an analyst. I look forward to your next Tweet.

Goodbye Harbaugh, HELLO RICH!
Followed by striking the pose.....

I have always believed that Desmond has been against coach rod from day one.. Desmond is part of the Michigan Mafia thats been after rrod and I think they have finally accomplished their goal. Notice how happy he's acting on set today he knows the hit is out!!
January 1st, 2011 at 12:01 PM ^
Honest question, not being snarky but has Desmond said something in the past. Maybe I missed it because I am not on Twitter or Facebook.
January 1st, 2011 at 11:39 AM ^
Be fair, in response to Herbies comment about the possible coaching candidates Jim Harbaugh and Brady Hoke, Desmond said, "Brady Who?"
January 1st, 2011 at 11:43 AM ^
Exactly. The only Brady UofM nation chooses to recognize, starts with Tom.....
January 1st, 2011 at 11:47 AM ^
Blasphemy!! What about Lloyd!!!!?
January 2nd, 2011 at 1:44 AM ^
Jimminie Lloyd Christmas, how could I have missed that? My bad. I neg myself for such a transgression.....
January 1st, 2011 at 11:51 AM ^
You're wrong. We recognize the fine exploits of a young Lloyd Brady.
edit: a tad slow this morning.
January 1st, 2011 at 11:49 AM ^
or Lloyd
edit : beaten not just once but twice. still nursing a new year's hangover, apologies.

haha I loved it when he said "Brady Who." But I was more upset with him saying that pretty much the whole Michigan fan base wants RR gone. Way to give into the perception Desmond. But its ok, you are still one of my favorite Wolverines of all time. Hopefully they come out and kick some ass and then DB will have no other choice than to keep RR...GO BLUE!!
January 1st, 2011 at 11:44 AM ^
I swear, if David Brandon fires RR and doesn't land Jim Harbaugh and instead gets Brady Hoke through a bizarrre sequence of events, I am pretty sure this whole community will explode, and maybe even the world.
Minus, Kirk Herbstreit because he will claim he had a hunch about Hoke.
January 1st, 2011 at 12:20 PM ^
If that happens I will assassinate.... myself.
January 1st, 2011 at 11:48 AM ^
Speaking of which, is it me or does he laugh like he just finished smoking the greatest joint ever?
January 1st, 2011 at 11:51 AM ^
He has too working with Douchy Herbie!!

Dear Section1
Who are you?
Desmond Howard

January 1st, 2011 at 11:42 AM ^
but he actually said "ALL"?
WTF
January 1st, 2011 at 12:29 PM ^
I'm sure that somebody will have a recording.
January 1st, 2011 at 12:50 PM ^
Which you'll surely dissect with the same fervor as people who parse the Zapruder Film. Which will then translate into a novella-length post parsing his grammar, enunciation, and his gall for actually having an opinion.
What's the point?
January 1st, 2011 at 11:42 AM ^
Dear Desmond,
Your credentials as a Michigan Man are beyond question. You know the program better than us mere mortals.
Remember though, not all of the alumni want RR out. Some of us love him. Keep that in mind while you pontificate for ESPN.
Heart,
The Townsfolk

Pick up your gameday game, unbelievable!
Go Blue!
January 1st, 2011 at 11:44 AM ^
Desmond is not perfect, maybe it was a slip. Maybe all the alumni that talk to Desmond have told him that they want RR out. Not that he needs it, but I would give him a pass. I think he has been very supportive of the program and maybe it was frustration with the losing and how the defense has been,
January 1st, 2011 at 11:45 AM ^
I thought he was referencing former players at that point.
I guess I saw it differently, but I thought he represented UofM well in that discussion - per usual
January 1st, 2011 at 11:47 AM ^
Here is 20 bucks. When you are at the Stanford / Va Tech game Monday, could you slip this to JH for me. Give him your big DH smile and a wink when you do this for me.
Thanks,
JD
January 1st, 2011 at 11:53 AM ^
Even if it were true that *all* of the alumni wanted RR gone, since when did we ask DH to announce our decision to the world?
January 1st, 2011 at 12:02 PM ^
Great, now we're dumping on one of our former Heisman winners.
Plus I don't understand your criticism. For example, did anyone ever ask Howard not to announce our decisions to the world? Who is "we"? Does Howard need to be asked to say something before saying it? Is it fair to call the infinitesmal percentage of people who saw Howard's quote--much less care at all--the world?
January 1st, 2011 at 12:09 PM ^
"Great, now we're dumping on one of our former Heisman winners."
You are correct, sir. If he really said that, he deserves a little dumping. He's capable of better work.
---
Why is it that some MGoBlog readers want lifetime exemptions for Desmond, Braylon, and others? Should we never criticize them?
January 1st, 2011 at 12:23 PM ^
He said all alumni. So, by "we", I meant all alumni, myself included. Doesn't seem that far of a logical leap, but maybe I'm wrong.
And even if all alumni were in favor of something - no matter what - I don't thnk any one of us should deem him or herself worthy of such a pronouncement.
You're right - I should have said "to the world of college football fans who may see the interview, live or once it goes viral - in the world of college football fans." My bad.
Don't worry, I'm not dumping on a former Heisman winner - one who had me on the edge of my seat every time I watched him play. I was trying to echo the sentiments of the OP.

that they went on to touch upon the OSU "Tatgate" situation. And Desmond was commenting on the sale of gold pants. Desmond said something that rang true; he asked what would Woody Hayes have done with players who committed that offense. (Desmond seemingly regrded the callousness of selling sacred OSU artifacts as a greater sin than violation of these particular NCAA prohibitions. My gut instinct was the same as Desmond's on that.)
In any event, there was that "What would Woody do?" thing. Desmond knew; he said Woody would kick some asses. Any player that didn't fear Woody would sure as hell be given reason to fear him. And Desmond said, "Bo Schembechler, too."
Well, Desmond; when it comes down to loyalty, what would Bo say to you?
January 1st, 2011 at 1:01 PM ^
Now Desmond is disloyal?
HIlarious.

duplicate. sorry. The site seems to be running slow at times today; not terribly surprising. I'll be off to watch some football shortly anyway.

And, Desmond, please stop wearing scarlet ties.
January 1st, 2011 at 11:58 AM ^
Um... his tie is white/silver today. Not that it mattered the last time, either. It's a tie.

It's like hyperbole in sports talk media is a new and revolutionary concept...
January 1st, 2011 at 12:00 PM ^
Dear Section 1,
Be more dramatic.
January 1st, 2011 at 12:07 PM ^
Personally, I'm more interested in what Tom Brady has to say on the whole situation.
Active NFLers >>>>> retired NFLers.
