Cullen Christian tells superprep that he's requested a transfer
apparently this is official mass exodus day.
from espn.com's big ten twitter account:
"Not sure if I'll be able to post this before my flight to CA, but Michigan CB Cullen Christian tells Superprep.com he's requested a transfer"
but I imagine there are plenty of guys ready to continue playing for the Maize and Blue in his place.
...he ends up at Pitt.
"apparently this is official mass exodus day."
Who else left besides Christian(which we already knew about)?
Morris?
Unless he hires an agent, there's no reason to consider him "gone".
If he's thinking of coming back then there was no point of even doing this.
Sure there is. Like it said in the press release, he wants to familiarize himself with the process.
If he were 100% set on going to the NBA, he would've hired an agent. Ya dig?
I agree, I don't see Morris' status today as any different than it was yesterday. He hasn't done anything that preculdes him from playing for us next fall. We knew he was interested in the draft, and he still is. We also know he's interested in playing college ball next fall, or he'd have an agent working him through all of this. Just like yesterday, Morris is keeping his options open as he gathers more info.
Agreed. Relax, people. It's probably a better idea he stays in college anyways because of the uncertanty with the NBA collective bargning agreement.
He's not ready. I'll get an unfavorable estimated draft position and then play one more season for the Maize and Blue.
...the love he'll get when he publically announces he's staying.

DJ Williamson is out also.

Was that ever confirmed or is it still just a rumor?
According to scout he and Cullen entered the room together to ask for their releases.
Wow. If he couldn't crack the worst two-deep in the league. He was the ace of RR's defensive class.
Is there a need for you to keep on repeating this. He is still young. Cut h some slack.
...if memory serves he was the corner who committed that *really* dumb penalty that got Notre Dame in position to win at the end and ended up in Rich Rod's dog house for doing so.
Also, I think Christian got left put in positions where the fact that his average speed got exposed last season.
I still think he'll be more likely to play where ever he transfers to than Tate is likely to play in Miami (that's not a knock on Tate by the way).
Are you saying that because you think Tate has a very low chance of playing or because you think CC will play? I suppose it depends on where CC transfers to, but if it's a BCS conference team, I doubt it.
...just saying.
Though I initially wrote what I did because I didn't think Tate would play much at Miami (like his brother at Stanford), however, upon further review, all Miami has at QB after next season is Stephen Morris (and, in the 2012 class, David Thompson) and in hindsight I could see Tate beating out both of them (since Jacory Harris graduates after next season).
He was also a true Frosh starting. I'm sad he's leaving, but I think it would be sour grapes to write him off and say too bad he's terrible. Plus, that tempts fate, and fate could put him making a game ending interception against us in a bowl game in the next couple of years.
...that I expected him to play. Heck, in the right system I still believe he could actually excell. Though I'd need to see where he ends up to say anything for sure.

...football, and you insult his ability to do so. You write on a message board, and you do so with piss-poor sentence structure. Nicely done!
C.Christian requests transfer ! Plz old news.
That stinks. Anyone know why he transferred?
Good luck CC.
Detroit News says he left due to the coaching change. http://www.detnews.com/article/20110421/SPORTS0201/104210469/Report--Cornerback-Cullen-Christian-to-transfer-from-Michigan
Seems weird that a kid would prefer the worst defense in school history to one led by Mattison, but to each his own. Bummer to lose a highly rated kid, but maybe more of a bummer that we've had multiple highly regarded secondary players crap out. Somewhere in America, however, a high school junior is very happy.
I'd be willing to bet that "coaching change" is the reason he gave, but not the real reason. When a player uses coaching change as his reason for transferring, almost everyone reads that and says something like, "yeah, that makes sense" since we did just have a coaching change. However, for the reasons you suggested, I think that's not really the case.
I think it's one of two things - either "coaching change" means "the new coaches don't think I'm any good" which is not really the same, Or it could jusr be "I think I'm better than the coaches do so I'll try my chances elsewhere."

you should "wonder". That'd be the reason.

As I watched him on the sideline during the Spring game, his body language told me he wanted to be anywhere else. He did not look happy to be standing there.

If he finds a new home where he can excel, I'd consider his transfer a win-win.
it sucks he never panned out, I had really high hopes for him ... i wish him the best, i understand when kids transfer for playing time
I don't know about not panning out, I mean he was only a freshman
I wonder if the retards over at RCMB have started a thread about kids who transfer under hoke called "Hoked" yet...
Then put all the dumbass wrong reasons that they left like they did for the RR thread..
In the rumours section on ESPN college FB it says Rising Sophmore. He can't be rising that much if he can't even crack the two deep. I have a feeling some of the incoming freshmen would've past him on the depth chart. Nobody wants to sit their entire careers. Especially when you are one of the top guys recruited by your team.
Perhaps you were joking about the "rising sophomore" bit, but in this case "rising" means "nearly," basically meaning that when he next plays football he'll be a sophomore. It's a way of indicating a college athlete's year of eligibility the next time he or she competes when that year is different from the athlete's academic year. It has nothing to do with how well that athlete is performing.
I haven't heard it used that way before and didn't read it like that when I initially read it.
Not saying you're wrong, it's just interesting now that you mention it.
Yeah, it's used pretty frequently in the education world.
(I'm not saying you're not educated, just that you hear it pretty frequently if you work in the school system.)
As Magnus says, it's a commonly used term--for both athletes and nonathletes. If you don't believe us, just google "rising sophomore" or "rising junior" and take a look at the results that come up. Better yet, switch to the Google news search and see just how many players are "rising."
Best of luck to CC and I hope he finds a place tht he feels is a better fit.
Best of luck. Every loss turns into a opportunity for another to earn a degree from The University Of Michigan.
At least now we know why Zeke Pike didn't come here...no Christian in AA
...I think between the last class and the current incoming freshmen that we do have decent depth at Cornerback (Woolfolk, Floyd, Avery, Talbott, Browns, Countess, Hollowell, Trayloer) and Safety (Carvin, Furman, Carter for FS). So at least this wasn't at a position of near term need in terms of numbers. Though its never a good thing for a highly touted recruit to not work out (Christian had an offer from Ohio State, UCLA, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia, so he difinitely had options).
No more non-prodigy Freshman playing...please.

CB is a spot I really don't mind true freshmen playing - just as long as they're playing because they're good enough to play, not because we just don't have anyone above him.
Good luck to him wherever he lands.
I'll bet Morris looks at those draft position projections and comes back.
that Hoke and Mattison are "driving off" recruits.
A. Losing.
Combined with...
B. Said Talent that leaves excelling elsewhere (see Family Values becoming an All-Big 10 Lineman and Ryan Mallett exploding in Arkansas).
Rich Rod started taking a hit from the media about Boren before he coached his first game so losing wasn't the issue. He took more grief about Mallet before he (Mallet) played a game for Arkansas.
