Craig Roh Appreciation Thread

Submitted by helloheisman.com on
What a great kid. My favorite players are always those who outwardly show love for the University above all else. What type of career arc will he have? I always see him referred to as an OLB, but from my limited football knowledge he looks like he's been playing DE on pretty much every play, save for the PBU against Iowa in the endzone. I think the coaches said they want to keep him at his current weight instead of bulking to fill Graham's spot, but he hasn't played much coverage anyway.

Roh has been a very good player and offers lots of hope for the future on defense, but this thread wouldn't have anything to do with the fact you just learned his dad reads the site, would it?

While I'm sure Brandon Graham will leave a monumental hole on the D line next year, I seriously hope the plan is to beef up Roh, make him a full time DE to replace Graham and have someone else play his tweener position.

Where did you hear the coaches want to keep him at his current weight. I've only heard they're excited about when he adds weight and gets quicker and faster how much better he'll be. It's an honest question on where you heard that.

(Narrowed to underclassmen otherwise we'll just be appreciating Graham and Minor) #1: Martavious Odoms -- all heart #2: Craig Roh -- likely to be an absolute beast with Dhani Jones-like brain. Loyalty unquestionable. #3: Mike Martin -- see Odoms. #4: Tate Forcier -- yeah, I know, he's been having a tough time recently. I don't care. #5: Vincent Smith -- all in due time #6: Denard Robinson -- we will be rewarded for his patience.

The defensive line has a bright future ahead of it with Roh, Martin, Campbell, and Van Bergen. There will be a ton of experience by the time Martin and Van Bergen are seniors.

It could be that they're using Roh in a zone blitzing scheme with Mouton and Ezeh. They're both athletic and disruptive if they do find the guy carrying the ball and Craig is quick enough to cover a RB or TE but albeit I'm not sure how effective that coverage would be. It does serve the purpose of another look that hopefully catches the QB off guard enough to blow up into a turnover. I hope we can use our new speedier LB recruits as missles into the backfield using the same scheme. Only thing we need is a ball hawking safety to roam around and pick off errant passes. EDIT*: Has anyone heard anything about LaLota and if he will be a decent fill-in for the strongside DE spot?

...in attitude, approach, work ethic I'm seeing Mark Messner. Can see his fourth year bringing a championship (at least Rose Bowl, possibly NC) and he being the rock on which the defense sits. Go Blue!

I was very excited when he signed with us. I can't believe how well he is playing for a true freshman and think if he continues on his current trajectory he will be an all-american and an NFL stud before he is done.

In a post a few weeks ago about "which player would you take in a B10 fantasy draft #1?" I said Craig Roh. He's a Frosh DE who plays like a Junior. In three years he will be the best defensive player in the B10 - mark my words. Ask yourself this - is there another player on our team that could leave and hurt us the most for 2-3 years? I say no. Mike Martin would be my second choice and third would be Tate (only because of Gardner coming in / having Denard).

Roh, RVB, and Martin are all studs. I am excited about what the Dline will do the next few years. If these guys can get a decent back 7 behind them, they will be an elite group.

I do a little dance when Roh does something sweet and it goes a little something like this. Step 1) raise my right arm in the air and bring it down in a violent swinging chopping motion while stepping forward with my left leg and yelling "death" step 2) do the same as step 1 except I use my left arm, step forward with my right leg and yell "roh" step 3) raise both my arms in the air at the same time and cross them at the middle of the forearm making an X. Step 4) swing both arms down to their respective sides in the same violent chopping motion while thrusting my hips forward, tilting my head back and yelling "motherfucker" step 5) rinse, wash and repeat
