Jim's older brother is already earning $12.5 million. The NFL is where it's at in coaching salaries with Bill Belichick the highest paid at $20 million followed by Pete Carroll at $15 million and Sean McVay at $14.6 million.

Harbaugh like his brother has a better track record than a lot of young coordinators now being pushed and prodded into NFL head coaching jobs. So, $20 million is just a pace setting offer at this point for a pretty certain coaching commodity.

Here's what I don't understand about "generational wealth".  I'll preface this by saying that my grandfather on my mom's side comes from a very wealthy and very large family.  To put it into context, my grandfather is cousins with a former US President.  Also, my father sold a small automotive company about 10 years ago.  Nothing compared to what my mom's side had, but still pretty good.

My parents stated that generational wealth is not about having so much money that you and your kids don't have to work. Its about having enough money so that your progeny don't have to worry about running out of money and the risks associated with being broke.  Everyone in my family was expected to get an education, work and support themselves.  Some had trust funds (I did not FYI).

My point, Harbaugh has made enough for the whole "generational wealth" thing to work just fine.

That's a pretty American definition of generational wealth.  In Europe it has traditionally meant that there's enough money that you don't have to work in the traditional sense.  The estate (land, cash, other assets) earns enough passive income to sustain the family, absent any major catastropic event.  People are expected to get an education, and contribute to the fortune in some way, but it's not necessary.

Well, I would say the it is a "WindyCityBlue" take on generational wealth.  I now live in the north shores of Chicago and there are definitely some families that don't really work, at least not a standard 40 hour work week.  I also have a close cousin who hasn't worked a day since 2008.  So perhaps both Americans and Europeans have the same view on this topic.

My parents state that any family money is not for me to simply withdraw when I want.  It's there in a time of need or a time of opportunity.

I get when ppl say this but let’s be real…majority of us would take a 250% increase to our yearly salaries with no problem and no questions asked. I’ve never witnessed a business person say “hey I know I have a good way(legally) to increase my wealth but nah I won’t because I already have too much money”. This only applies in the world of sports, where we think ppl should stop making as much as they can for our own personal interest. If the Broncos are offering $20M he’d be a fool not to take it.

Without speculating about any rumors specifically, a double offer than anyone else is the only reason to take that Denver job (over other NFL offers or staying at Michigan). You're getting hired to get fired there. A terrible team with zero prospects of being good anytime soon.

XM - you have been one of the most ardent "he aint leaving" guys here on the board for the past two years and have consistently attributed these type of stories as being nothing more than clickbate.

Are you still there?  And if not, what's changed in your opinion from the Jim Harbaugh telling the world "I'll coach Michigan as long as they'll have me" last year.

first, happy new year mgrow.  hope you and stick-figure angel wife are doing great.

as to your question, i still think he stays.  that said, i do and always have acknowledged a non-zero chance that he might not.  i take him on his word that he's done chasing the NFL.  i have not inquired of my sources about any of this, it just feels like a high school drama and i want nothing to do with making it worse.

one thing i would mention, though not in response to your question, is how we as a fan base are reacting.  with no substance other than what amounts to third hand, unsourced rumors, folks around here are demanding that harbaugh resign at this point.  think about that:  the greatest coach we've had in my lifetime, better than bo, yet any source of rumor is enough for folks to start screaming.  it is weak beyond description and actually makes our 'enemies' cackle with glee - that's all it takes for the michigan fan base to go nuclear.

shame on us.  i wish jim the best no matter what he does.  we are treating him like crap because of unsubstantiated cow manure.

Whining and hand  wringing? He is doing damage to the program right now. Unless you think recruiting does not matter, but the university spends millions on recruiting so we know it matters.

In what workplace could you sabotage a department so badly and not possibly be fired? I don't care what your title is, at that point it should be your ass.

Most people don’t think or see the situation as you do. If any elite prospects are scared off by rumors of a coach getting offers after back to back CFP appearances, then I have news for these recruits you imagine: every successful person is a wanted commodity, including themselves. If their minds are swayed by the mere gossip that exists in our gossip-24/7 epoch, they’re probably not tough enough mentally to live up to their own star ratings, and this are not going to “ruin” recruiting at Michigan by going somewhere else in their fickleness.

surprises?  probably not..... disappoints?  likely....

consider the way Coach B was talked about every season 1 month in when the team looked disjointed and scattered... vs. the way the same jokers talked about Coach B while the boys were hitting their stride two months later..

There's no reaction quite like an over reaction, in this forum.

Good point but pretty sure Broncos fans are no different. What frustrates JH current fan base is he isn’t really saying he’s not going can't blame fans given the impact last year and this on recruiting and team retention. If JH was committed to staying you would think he would come out this week and definitively state he UMs coach this year with zero caveats like he did last time he was asked.

Really? I don’t think anyone is treating him like crap. He should leave if his heart isn’t in it. Some people are miffed given his statements last year saying he’d stay for how long Michigan would have him.

We just want what’s best for Michigan which would be a “thank you Jim” with smooth transition and possible option to interview external and internal candidates before the ball gets rolling on the 2024 season especially w recruiting.
