NIce to see a quick little release from Russel Bellomy at 1:20.

funk is a bit ..... ummm ..... intense! that day must have been a poor practice....cause he was irritable
August 26th, 2011 at 8:31 AM ^
...with the brown M hat?
August 26th, 2011 at 8:32 AM ^
he must have put it in the washer at least a dozen times.
August 26th, 2011 at 8:59 AM ^
I'm going to go ahead and assume that his hat is older than 7 months. He's probably had it for a while.

So would Doug Karsch be taller than Death?
And Funk just sounds like a football coach. Not sure what he'd have done if that didn't work out. Can't see him answering calls running the tech assistance line (assuming it hadn't been outsourced).

Doug Karsch towers over the Grim Reaper.
August 26th, 2011 at 3:14 PM ^
That looks like a Terminator Grim Reaper...which would make an awesome movie IMO.
Skynet finally won the war when they figured out a way to create a Grim Reaper robot that could kill anyone just by deciding they should die.

Does it sound like Barnum might be more of a lock to start at guard than Omameh? "Patrick's in the middle of a log jam over there on that right side" surprises me quite a bit. Maybe it means he could be playing gaurd or tackle? Maybe it's just coachspeak/motivation?
August 26th, 2011 at 9:04 AM ^
From all accounts by the coaching staff they are very impressed with Barnum on the left side. Supposedly he moves very well and works hard. Omameh can be inconsistant at times and I would guess that Khoury possibly could be pushing him for the LG spot. It might also just be coachspeak to get Omameh to become more consistant.

I'm happy to hear that we have a logjam on the O-line especially since it seems to be a logjam of talented players.
Omameh, Khoury, Schofield (sp?), etc all seem like good options, which would seem to align with what Borges said about having 7-8 guys who are ready to play.

...we should take up a collection -- The Funk Fund -- and buy him a new hat.
August 26th, 2011 at 10:57 AM ^
He would probably kill you with nothing but his intense stare if you tried to take that hat away. People get attached to their beat up old hats, man.
August 26th, 2011 at 11:05 AM ^
Lol, I thought you typed hat testicles.
August 26th, 2011 at 9:00 AM ^
really surprised to hear Omameh doens't have the starting job locked down. he was pretty effective last year i hope he's the one starting this year.

It was announced yesterday by the AD.

I know it's normal these days, but it still bothers me to see 18-22 year old kids wearing knee braces. I don't know if I could ever willingly put my body through the rigors of being a lineman.
August 26th, 2011 at 10:49 AM ^
Almost positive they are required to wear them for preemtive reasons. Not because they are in pain or have had past injuries.
August 26th, 2011 at 9:57 AM ^
...if Gary Busey was a Michigan coach.
August 26th, 2011 at 12:54 PM ^
Clearly you are not the only one Brian...
August 26th, 2011 at 10:30 AM ^
is running with the 3rd team.
/ looks with worry at OL depth chart
August 26th, 2011 at 3:22 PM ^
Wait, why does that worry you?
To me, that inidcates that we have a lot of talented kids ahead of him.
We have the sure-thing starting 4, plus Omameh, Khoury, Schofield, Mealer, some others, plus the freshman (including two massive walk-ons). I feel pretty good about that.
We only lose two of those guys next year as well, so we could have a 2012 starting O-line of Lewan, Barnum, Khoury, Omameh, Schofield. With Mealer & Co. backing them up.
Then in 2013 you still have Lewan and Schofield, the other guys who are aging in, and the 2012 class that just finished their reshirt season.
To me, this is not that scary.

Coach Funk seems like he would be good head coaching material someday.
