Our friend Jon Johnston (of "There is no hope.  Fuck everything.  Go Big Red" fame) weighs in.

We never had it as bad as Nebraska. Nobody has it as bad as a Nebraska fan.

I wouldn't say nobody has it as bad as a Nebraska fan (*cough*Rutger*cough*), but Nebraska right now is like if 2008 kept happening to us over and over again.

Last 5 years of Nebraska:

2017 4-8

2018 4-8

2019 5-7

2020 3-5

2021 3-9

Right now they have 3 wins with 2 games left. You're definitely right when you say, "we never had it as bad as Nebraska."

The very human message in his video was amazing.  BUT... did anyone else feel it was a bit, I dunno, creepy or out of place?  You know, "time and place" sort of thing.  Or comparing two things that just don't belong together.  His channel is about a freakin' college football team.  Not life-and-death.  I mean, this isn't the effing SEC....

True, he also goes onto say "We had the ball rolling until..." and detailed how Purdy got injured.  In reality, there were other teams we played against that had the ball rolling against us this year as well and it lasted exactly one half only thankfully.

EDIT:  Admittedly I didn't know really anything about this guy and his historically jaded humor about Nebraska so I made the mistake of taking his words at face value.  He is pretty funny and it's disparaging to hear about his health issue battles.

WELP.. now I just feel bad.

How many of these games have followed precisely the same script? It's crazy. They all seem scary in the first half, because a ball control game--combined against their best scripted plays and line energy--is only going to yield so many points. Then we roll the backhoe out again and plow them under.

I feel for this guy. Very sorry that he’s had to deal with those health issues. Given that he‘s had a heart attack and a traumatic brain issue I don’t know why he would want the agita of watching this ugly Nebraska season. He could do without all of the anxiety and pressure. I guess the blame for this rests squarely on Scott Frost and his mom for putting this poor fella under the gun. He deserves better.

They need to hire a HC that was once a beloved former player who then became a red hot head coach….what’s Scott Frost up to? He seems like a home run hire.

I read an interesting fact earlier this week. Since the 2017 season, every single P5 team has been bowl eligible at least once except two:

Kansas, who finally became bowl eligible this season last week. Aaaaand…

Nebraska.

With this loss today, Nebraska is not eligible for the post season. They are now currently the only P5 team to not be bowl eligible since 2017 (5 years!!!).

I mean, there weren't many hires that were more of a home run than Scott Frost to Nebraska.  For that to fail as spectacularly as it did just had to be completely devastating for the Nebraska fanbase.

Could you imagine how devastating it would be if Jim Harbaugh went .500 over his first 4 years at Michigan?  (For the record, Harbaugh was a more for sure of a successful hire than Frost)  Fans here were disappointed in Harbaugh's first 4 years, and he was 38 and 16.  Frost was 16 and 31!!!

Word on Frost at the time was "not ready for primetime." Nebraska ignored that conclusion and hired him into a big-time job anyway. Not surprised he failed. Dude wasn't ready. Compound that with some serious personality and (allegedly) substance abuse issues.

RGIII put it pretty well on the air today: Nebraska CAN still be a Destination Job.

I agree there are environmental and institutional limitations inherent to Nebraska that make it highly unlikely they will ever return to the heights of the Osborne or Devaney eras.

The CFB ground has shifted beneath them in ways that make it much more difficult for them to adapt to the current CFB era than a place like Michigan.

Frost was only at UCF two years.  The coach before him (O'Leary) was successful until team chemistry got shot to hell in 2015 and the team quit on him.  Frost just basically got the talented players he inherited to care again.

You can't compare that to Harbaugh winning at three different jobs (including the NFL) before he came here.

That was a refreshing dose of humanity and I completely empathize with him. I'm certainly rooting a little bit for Nebraska now that Frost is gone. Feel fortunate that we somehow turned the program around after Rutgers 2020. Could have been us...again

If the Cornhuskers never win another game...no skin off my nose. Didn't like them back in the day, will never like them. Don't think they even belong in our conference. Think other than Minnesota I prefer every team in the West over Nebraska.
