The coming week in Michigan sports - where's your interest?

Submitted by Amazinblu on February 6th, 2023 at 10:54 AM

The groundhog made his presence known last week - as did several Michigan teams - including Men's hoops, Women's hoops, Hockey, and Golf.

Men's hoops host both Nebraska (Wednesday) and Indiana (Saturday).

Men's hockey will face the Spartans in EL on Friday evening at in Detroit on Saturday.

Women's hoops host Nebraska on Sunday.

Wrestling travels to Iowa for a meet on Friday, and hosts Indiana on Sunday.

Women's softball and lacrosse is in Florida - kicking things off.

Men's water polo will be in the pool for a few matches during the weekend.

Both men's and women's teams in the following sports will be in action:

  1. Track and Field,,
  2. Golf (women wrap up a tourney in Mexico today, and the men play in Texas on Friday / Saturday)
  3. Tennis,
  4. Swimming / Diving, and
  5. Gymnastics

Which will you be following?   I'll follow hockey and hoops (both men's and women's) most closely.

Go Blue!   Enjoy!

Go blue in everything... including Risk. I am curious to see if the MBB team can pull off another turn-around. We seemed moribund after the PSU game, but the NW and OSU games were very pleasant. A 2-0 week should put us squarely back in the bubble conversation.

My wife and I swim, so we will definitely follow the swimming. My wife loves Gymnastics so I'll follow that as well. [I actually follow everything, but those 2 will be first]

I'll pay some attention to MBB, more to hockey. I miss going to UM-MSU games in Detroit, and with MSU actually competent this year it could be something to see.

The crush of football has lessened, though. The SB is happening, of course, but after Michigan's season ends my eyes start to wander to other sports that I wouldn't have much time for in the fall. Hockey and basketball certainly take some bandwidth (more when they're good) but I've been watching more soccer this year, and King of the Hammers this week and I'll be paying that significant attention.

Men's lacrosse also kicks off the season at #1 Virginia on Saturday. HUGE game.

And I'm very interested to see if men's hoops can continue winning and put together a late season run.

Definitely Hockey and Basketball as 1A/1B.

Too bad the basketball game tips off at 6pm since that means I won't be able to go to the Duel in the D game Saturday without missing most of the basketball game. I believe this is two years in a row now.

Baseball starts next Friday. Of course with the weather the way it is, they will play 17 of their first 18 games on the road. But they are in a couple of good tournaments to open the year which will mean we can probably find ways of watching them without paying out the nose for specialty streaming.

Samantha Findlay made me a forever M softball fan. For me it's 1) Football 2) Softball and then some other stuff before "everything else"

Men's Tennis is ranked #4 nationally, I believe 2 spots behind the Nuts.  They're undefeated and playing great tennis.  This weekend they're down at NC State but I'm going to try and catch a match at the Tennis Center soon.  They play the Nuts there Sun Apr 9th at noon, undoubtedly with B1G Championship implications.

I wish the basketball team was playing better and would be in contention for the B1G title and NCAA tournament bid. May be if the teams play improves, the NIT is not out of the picture.
