I suspect that Lee Corso will announce his retirement at the end of the show, and then put on the Brutus Buckeye head, thus completing the cycle (Brutus Buckeye was the mascot head he put on the very first time).
And I'm OK with that. His picks suck anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if picks the Brutus head, and then ceremonially "passes the torch" of picking mascots to one of the other hosts... I'm guessing either Kirk Herbstriet as they have the closest relationship, or Pat McAfee because he'll bring the most energy to the picking each week.

This is such a strange take, no matter where he goes he gets into the history and the feel of the fans of the locale. Yes it may not be the culture you like (frat like) but it's undeniable how he energizes the place.

He opened the show today by getting the entire crowd singing 'I hate the entire state of Michigan' after inviting Desmond to sing along. Yeah, he's a doofus, but he does bring the energy of the local crowd the way they like it brought. I'm not a big fan of his, but I'm willing to give him a year or two to settle into his role and figure out what works for him.
I'm not willing to give Jess Sims the same courtesy. She needs to be off the show today - she knows absolutely nothing about the game, the teams, or the traditions. And she can't interview or tell a story to save her own friggen' life. And she can't hold a candle to Erin or Maria if that's your criteria. Get her the fuck away from this show.

She has been on the show a whole season now. Time to lose the freaking cue cards. Her segments are like 45 seconds. If you can't do that without cue cards then go the hell back to Peleton class. At some point it gets insulting.
If ESPN feels like they have to have a brash, loud female for that role to "bring the energy!!", there are a hundred better choices. Niki Noto, who is actually good and entertaining, gets my vote. Go find her again ESPN.

I could not disagree more. He is loud. He is annoying. He dominates discussion. And he talks over everyone else. He “steals” every segment he is in but not in a good way. I’d take Herbie, Desmond and all of the others over him every day of the week. I’ll agree that he brings energy but too much so.

My reaction as well. ESPN sucks and I only watch if a Michigan game is on their network or a really epic game. Big Noon kick-off has become a far more entertaining and informative show than Gameday.

Agreed. McAfee is a douchebag. Very unpleasant to watch. Watch Corso in his prime. He brought energy, but it was based in his analysis of games. McAfee offers little in the way of coherent analysis and is nothing but a clown show out there. I find myself gravitating to Big Noon Kickoff more and more these days.

Corso MADE Gameday. He'll be remembered in the way Madden, Cosell, and Keith Jackson are--as a true greats who made football more popular by changing the way we view games. They all made games look and feel like mythic events.
