Coach Beilein = Coach Norman Dale?

Submitted by ChuckieWoodson on

With 4:01 to go and down 2, Beilein starts to go uncharacteristically balistic on the refs.  The culmination of a bunch of bad calls, or an ingenious way to get the troops fired up?  I draw the parellels to Hoosiers, sans the picket fence.

I actually thought it all started over the timeout and foul on GR3. Glenn got fouled, and the refs called a media timeout. Both teams started putting chairs on the court. However, we were in the bonus. The refs were walking off the court. So they were either going to ice him and not let him.shoot until after the timeout, or else they were just going to skip GR3's free throws altogether. Coach B was hot, and then it snowballed to the whole bumping thing. The official went towards the scorer's table, realized that Coach B was right and we were in the bonus, apologized, and the benches packed up their chairs so GR3 could shoot the 1&1.

I gotta say...Thad Matta is probably the closest to Norman Dale. That's just in terms of LOOKS, though. I'm saying nothing here about coaching prowess, class, humility, ethics, etc. ;-)

While this one move may have been Coach Dale like, Dale was a hothead who yelled at the officials non-stop, was getting constant technicals, had been fired for punching a player and always seemed on the edge of completely losing it.  I don't think Beilein would ever be described like that.    All that being said, the officiating in the game was pathetically lopsided to State until Beilein pulled his rant and he did seem to tip the scales, so kudos to him.

Wow I thought I was old, wait a min, I am. I remember him giving the Fab 5 all sorts of props in the day. I think he was about 67 then. His face should fall off very soon if he doesn't give it up. Go Blue!!!! Beat Staee again in February. With any luck they will be healthy er have the two greatest players that ever balled back in their lineup and make it another five point loss.
