Cleveland State SG Rashad Williams enters transfer port
May seem OT at first, but Dylan at UMHoops has been in contact with Rashad and he's interested in Michigan. Michigan hasn't been in contact with him yet, which makes sense because he's only been in the portal for a few hours.
Williams would have three years of eligibility remaining and there's been talk that he could get a waiver to be eligible immediately. Being from Detroit, perhaps there's a family situation in play. Williams was an All-Horizon League selection as a freshman last year. At this point, he's "Just A Shooter", averaging just shy of 11 PPG last year on 41% shooting from beyond the arc. Over 80% of his FGA were threes last year.
Title should say transfer portal*
I didn't even notice that until you made this post, having said that, when does the 3pt line move back, and is this kid a B1G player, because I don't know anything about him.
Is he a B1G player aside from his shooting? Hard to say. Offer list wasn't great coming out of HS. CSU, EMU, Detroit and Stony Brook.
Edit: Missed your first question. Line moves back for this upcoming season.
I mean, if Beilein could turn Duncan Robinson into an NBA player from D3, I bet he could mold this kid. Unfortunately we dont have Beilein any longer.
Smart man getting out before the hammer comes down. He knows the NCAA is about to take all their frustrations out on Cleveland State
I'm always curious what "interested in Michigan" means.
Hey bro, I'm ____ from Michigan site ____. Are you interested in Michigan in the event that they offer?
Yeah bro, that'd be tight.
Sweet.
I think it's a lot more than that in this case. Dylan posted a thread earlier this week basically gauging what the response would be if Michigan landed the kid, without naming him. Seems like it Michigan wants him they get him.
I'm no expert but that sounds like a good fit for what we need.
*tyte FIFY
Knowing the NCAA, even if there's a legitimate waiver option, they would probably deny it.
It would not be a good look, if the NCAA denies a waiver after that devastating earthquake in Cleveland this week
We need to cheat more. Then we can get those illegitimate waivers through. It’s a volume thing
Cleveland is not too far from Ann Arbor.
Can he meet admission standards?
Does he have good character?
If yes and we see he can shoot the 3 ball.
Yes!
If no, then nope.
I'm finding it hard to get excited about a possible transfer from Cleveland State.
There have been successful transfers from mid and low majors before. Bryn Forbes comes to mind. Transferred from Cleveland State to MSU and is now in the NBA. Feel free to write the kid off if you know a good reason to, but the path has been utilized successfully before. Hell, three weeks ago we were all excited about Jaevin Cumberland, who was also transferring out of the Horizon League.
Let's hope this kid doesn't hang out with Valentine and Trice or we might have a situation brewing.
Does the name Duncan Robinson ring a bell?
As the other poster said, the last sharpshooter from CSU panned out well. We need outside threats.
If he can get a waiver, this is a kid we should go get. We need solid players, and a "2020 Fab Five Class" is just a dream at this point.
I recently heard about a guy who went to D1 from Williams College and he just signed a 2 year contract with the Miami Heat!
Pics or it didn’t happen...
Duncan Robinson
Just saw your earlier post. Two great minds....
Found the grouping of people that point to the exception to try to justify taking this kid.
Would OSU football approve his immediate eligibility?
pros:
shot 40+% on 3's last season - a very likely weak spot for Michigan
roster is shorthanded this coming season
might be eligible immediately
cons:
only averaged 10.8 pts
just a shooter and undersized for SG at 6'2", likely a liability on defense
averaged 0.7 assists
probably won't know if he gets a waiver before he's enrolled - haven't seen a reason for the waiver yet
will take up a roster spot for 3-4 years
unknown:
whether he can get past admissions
Future pros: half of OSU
Future cons: half of OSU.
Oh shit, you meant the other type of "pros and cons".
