Clemson Loses; Michigan-Vandy Winner Will Host Next Game
NIT Madness! Top-seeded Clemson just lost to Morehead State, which means that if we beat Vanderbilt, we'll host the quarterfinal game next Tuesday or Wednesday.
Two #1 seeds out in the first round. Good reminder of how fortunate we are to still be playing another day!
The bracket is opening up for Michigan to win the damn thing. Why not us?

Welp, my bracket's busted. Anyone else?
No?
Just me?
*sigh*
Looking forward to meeting David DeJulius and Cincy in the Final Four. Let’s play against all our former guards this season!
You know, there are some mighty interesting match-ups should we make it to the championship game:
- Oklahoma State - Interesting team. Was rated as the first team left out of the tourney. Our last game against them was in the 2017 NCAA tourney.
- Oregon - Man, this is a team I'd LOVE to beat! They beat us by 1 point in OT in Ann Arbor back in 2019 and that heartbreaking loss by 1, when Derrick Walton missed a shot at the buzzer, that would have gotten us into the Elite 8.
- Wisconsin - Wisconsin vs. Michigan for a banner. Enough said.

That 2017 game against Oklahoma State was so good. And that Oregon game being only a week after the OKST game.

And then those darn Ducks went to the final four. It should have been our Wolverines! That was a painful loss.

DJ Wilson couldn't box out on a FT either!!
Crazy that DeJulius is still playing in college. How nice would it have been to have him on our team this year?
Yup. Michigan needs to get better at keeping guards on the team. The last few years might have been much better.
Brandon Johns is also still playing at VCU (in the Tournament no less). Might have been good to have him this year too.

There are absolutely no circumstances by which it would’ve been good to still have John’s around, none. Watch more basketball then make comments.
March 16th, 2023 at 12:11 PM ^
i would take Johns over the dumpster fire we are currently rolling out at the 4 every game
On NCAA site/bracket, I'm seeing our game time already posted as Saturday at noon on ESPN.

I checked an hour ago and Michigan was the only one of the 8 Sat/Sun NIT games scheduled. ESPN wanted to lock up the time slot.
Already have 5 Gen Admin tickets. Doors open at 10am Central and I WILL be courtside in the Vandy Student section.
Casey's bouncin' up a bar at Vandy next week. We should go up there. We'll fuck up some smart kids. Probably fit right in.
Go Dores!

I will be supporting Michigan in this weekend's contest.
Win the game.
But the announcers said they're really good!

Vandy seems pretty good (for a NIT team), so that will be a tough game for sure. They were playing pretty well down the stretch in their conference.

You can’t take anyone for granted, just ask Rutgers or Clemson. At various points in the season, both thought they were a lock for the Big Dance. Now they’re just sitting at home and crying.
Rutger may be crying, but the Clemson guys are out playing golf.
March 15th, 2023 at 10:35 PM ^
If Michigan beats Vandy and Morehead beats UAB, Michigan will be getting Morehead at Crisler Arena.

Let’s hope we get an early offensive spurt in that one, because if we are unable to come from behind, it’s going to be a tough one to swallow.
I'm sure we'll rise to the occasion.
So, potential headlines might be…. “Morehead comes to Ann Arbor”, or - perhaps - “Michigan gets ready for Morehead.”
memories of ohio getting upset by oral roberts.... headline"
ohio state got oral and hated it

“Michigan’s student body embraces and welcomes Morehead in Ann Arbor. Rally on the Diag before the visit.”

Some interesting odds for fellow degenerates:
M opened +850 to win the NIT, tied for 2nd best odds at that time. This morning (post Toledo victory/Rutgers loss), we were +950.
Clemson and New Mexico dropping will move the needle on those odds some, I expect.
The game is just down the interstate from me in Nashville. Tickets are as low as $35. With WKU having played Vandy I know Vandy fans aren’t the worst…do I go to this game at 11am local time?
Of course you go. You never know what you might get gamewise.
Same here. Want to carpool?
I would definitely say go. If you're living in Nashville, how often do you get the chance to see Michigan play in person? Even if it is just the NIT, I would try to do it if I was in your shoes.
Was just in Nashville for the first time a couple weeks ago; if I remember correctly Vandy’s just down the street from the giant naked people, no?
It’s really Music Row that’s just down the street from the giant naked people. Vandy is a bit away from them, but you have the general vicinity correct.

Haha I just remember seeing them both relatively close on the bus tour we took.
Also saw the police and forensics at Kellie Pickler’s house; found out later her husband had committed suicide about an hour before.
So in other words, don’t sleep on the Nashville bus tour. There’s a lot going on in that town.
A bus tour of Nashville?? C'mong, man.

there are a lot of bachelorette party busses strolling thru nashville at any given moment.

Rabbit,
We took a campus tour of Vandy about four years ago. As you point out, it’s not “downtown, downtown” Nashville - but, it’s not too far away either. It’s about a mile and a half walk from Vandy’s campus to the Country Music HOF.
Enjoy the game…

Absolutely. How often do Michigan teams end up playing close to home? Whenever Michigan comes to my seldom visited neck of the country, I always try to go regardless of sport
For whatever reason I always pick Morehead St to advance when they make the NCAA, yet I couldn't tell you where they're located.
Well, North Carolina State is just down the road here in NC (where I live), so it stands to reason that Morehead State must be in the State of Morehead.
It's in Kentucky.

Michigan has played Vanderbilt eight times in its basketball history (6-2). Perhaps the most memorable game was back in 1965 when #1 M barely beat #5 Vandy to win the mideast regional in the NCAA tournament 87-85. That was the year they lost to #2 UCLA in the final game. Go Blue! One more time!
Hofsta beat 1 seed Rutgers. 4 seed Cincinnati beat VT. For some rest Hofstra gets the home game against Cincinnati. Are we sure the Michigan Vandy winner will host round 3?
