Hopefully Boo Boo can go through the prison boot camp, which if my memory serves me, is a 90 day intensive program. Sometimes it takes a terrible thing like this, to make a person realize how blessed they are. Good Luck Boo Boo.

Dude, this is seriously not a laughing matter.  This was a kid from a very rough background who dreamed of playing Michigan Football for years.  He was granted that dream, with the prospect of a real career in football, and will now have to live the rest of his life knowing that he threw that away.  Really, a pretty sad story.

Many of us were elated when BooBoo committed to UM (wOOT highly rated prospect) and cheered hard for the kid while we wore the winged helmet.  I don't see his downfall as something that we should joke about.

Let me play devil's advocate here... it's okay for us to joke about Maurice Clarett and Winston and all the thugs we castrate around here, yet it's blasphemy to speak about Boubacar like this?  I wish the best for him, but the level of hypocrisy around here is approaching full brim.

Boo Boo came from a hard background.  Did these other guys not rise from equal hardships?  Maybe not all of them, but at least some.  I know that Boo Boo is OUR guy, and I'm not cracking any jokes, but don't feign outrage if someone says something to this effect.  You guys are acting like the guy who rips on his buddies all the time but gets all emo when he's put in the spotlight.

Either shut up about these other guys, or don't act like the morality police when one of our guys screws up...

I don't disagree with your point, and I do not personally make fun of ANY college kids that throw their life away, Clarett and Winston included.  HOWEVA, a few differences with Clarett:

1.  Clarett was out of school when we was caught driving around with guns and an open bottle of vodka.  Booboo is still a student.  Once you are out of school, you are no longer a kid as far as I am concerned - you are an adult.

2.  What most of us trash Clarett for is not his guns / drinking / etc., it is for the NCAA violations stuff.  Basically, he largely carried OSU to a National Championship, and there have been tons of allegations of booster contributions, recruiting violations, etc.  To me, that is not a kid throwing his life away - that is a SCHOOL and its boosters gaming the system.  Big difference.

Winston was a student.  For all that, so is Clarett, although he's now a Weinke.  I know that I should expect homerism, cuz, I mean, duh... but there's a side of me that still screams BS.  If ones a thug, they're all thugs.  I mean, we lumped Masoli into that category pretty quickly, maybe too quickly.  We've retracted those thoughts, for the most part, but most of these comparisons are apples to apples.

I didn't mean to sound so harsh in my prior reply either, and it wasn't specifically directed at you.  Sport is like religion, it clouds your judgment and makes you prone to not see the true bad guys, or the true good guys...

That said, most of these jokes are made not because the incident itself is funny (it rarely is) but because it comes at the expense of our rivals, thus making the situation (mildly) funny. Hence, we're not inclined to laugh about Cissoko but are inclined to laugh about Clarett.

The reason we take cheap shots at the downfall of Clarett is because it's a knock on OSU not because we really enjoy his pain. If he were not affiliated with OSU, we would never mention it or, even more likely, not notice he got into trouble. And that is the exact same reason we don't laugh at Cissoko, because we would be effectively poking fun at ourselves.

I seriously doubt anyone on this board truly wishes bad things to happen to Clarett (or anyone else) or takes pleasure in the fact that he threw his dream away and ended up in prison, but that is not really what we are doing. We are simply using this as a cheap opportunity to make fun of our most hated rival OSU. I'm ok with that. Is this hypocritical? Of course. That is why they are called cheap shots!

If the day ever comes that I have to stop laughing at the failures, bonehead decisions and troubles of our rivals and their players (or feel I must do the same to UM because otherwise I will be a hypocrite), that will be the day I stop being obsessed over college sports, grow up and move on with my life as a true adult. I am pretty sure that day will never come.

People have a tremendous capacity for change and I'm fully confident that he can get his life back on track.  I will keep him in my prayers and hope that he utilizes this time to think about not only how and why he got off track but also the steps required to help him rebuild his life.

I hope he can make it back here and get a degree.  His boat has sailed on playing football for Michigan, but I'd still like him see put it all together and get an education in the end.

Really a sad outcome to a sad story.  I hope he learns from his mistakes and makes a life for himself.  Maybe something positive can come of this.  Truly disheartening.

I hope when the door slams shut behind BooBoo and he sees the cage where he will spend the next 1-1/2 years he does some soul searching and decides if he's a criminal or a kid that made some very bad decisions.  If it's the former, he best learn how to live and thrive in a new environment and if it's that latter I hope that he makes a plan to live up to all of his potential.

It's his choice if he's going to be a sad story of failure or a positive story about overcoming self-inflicted misery.
